Beth Moore’s Study, “Stepping UP…a Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent”

This study explores Psalms 120-134. Traveling pilgrims sang these psalms both on

the way to the great festivals of the Jews and as key elements of the worship at those festivals. Themes of unity, joy, gratitude, redemption, repentance, the power of blessings, facing ridicule, and more are explored in detail. Modern-day believers in Jesus Christ can learn much from these treasured Psalms in their journey toward greater intimacy with God.

This is a DVD led study with a study guide for teaching session notes and 5 days worth of personal reflections and questions. One week we will watch the DVD and the next, we will discuss the study guide questions that accompany that DVD session. This study will take 13 weeks to complete starting in February

and ending the beginning of May.

The cost of the study guide is $14.00. If you have any questions or would like to see the study guide before signing up, please

see Amy Renberg. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

PARENTS SEMINAR IN GRAND RAPIDS!

All parents are invited to attend a free seminar at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, 3600 Kalamazoo Avenue in Grand Rapids this Thursday, January 24, at 7:00 p.m. to hear Chap Clark present valuable information for parents of “adolescents” from age 11-28. Chap is a speaker, trainer and consultant as well as an author or co-author of more than 20 books

including Hurt 2.0, Sticky Faith, When Kids Hurt: Helping Adults Navigate the Adolescent Maze, Disconnected, and Parenting Teens in a MySpace World. He is an associate provost and

professor at Fuller Theological Seminary, Senior Editor of YouthWorker Journal and president of ParenTeen and HURT seminars.

Chap will share his insights about life-long faith development, family faith practices and ways to mentor and invest in the lives of teens that we care about. His presentation will center around

the current spiritual trends of 11-28 year olds and steps that parents, youth workers and churches can take to equip students with a deep and dynamic faith that lasts a lifetime.

A sign-up list is located at the Youth Counter. Please sign up by next Sunday, January 20. For more information, contact Pastor Matt.

A new church directory will be published in the

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

“These things are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing,

you may have life in His name.” John 20:31

So begins and ends the Gospel of John, with emphasis on the glorious theme Jesus Christ is God! In this new Mixed (Men & Women) Adult Sunday School elective (the other is the Beth Moore women’s class), which begins in February, we will open the written Word to see the eternal Word of God revealed, God in the flesh.

J. Vernon McGee said in his excellent Intro to his commentary on John: “When we come to the Gospel of John, we find that he does not take us to Bethlehem. We will never grow spiritually by singing “O Little Town of Bethlehem” umpteen times at Christmas. John won’t take us to Bethle-hem because he wants you and me to grow as believers. John takes us down the silent corridors of eternity, thru the vast emptiness of space, to a beginning that is not a beginning at all.”

Augustine, the great Bible teacher of the early church said: “In the four gospels, or rather in the four books of the one Gospel, the Apostle John not undeservedly with reference to his spiritual understanding compared to an eagle, has lifted higher, and far more sublimely than the other three, his proclamation, and in lifting it up he has wished our hearts also to be lifted.”

This interactive class will feature Bible exposition and class discussion led by Pastor Rob as we seek to grow in our faith and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, revealed in Scripture so that we may have life in His name.

Yes, I’m planning on being a part of the Gospel of John Sunday School class!

Experience Life - Learning to Follow Jesus in a Me-centered World Are you a follower? Every day, the world screams at us, “You’re number one. Look out for yourself...your own comfort and happiness.” But that’s not what Jesus said. He told us to follow Him. And following Him means we’re not number one - Jesus is. Mike Cooke leads this open discussion class for both men and women.

Jewels From James for 2013 In this Women’s Class, Sharon Van Houten will lead a study of some great truths in the book of James that will strengthen your relationship to Christ and provide real life application to your Christian experience.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 2nd at 8:00 a.m. for a men’s breakfast here at the church. Our Usher Ministry Coordinator, Eloy Ramos, would like to invite all current and new ushers to attend, as well as any other men who would be interested in finding out more about the Usher’s Ministry.

This is a great way to get connected and serve the Lord and your church family here at Parkside! Return the signup form you should have received in the mail. If you didn’t receive anything, just call the church office at 399-4410 or talk to Eloy to be included in this fun morning!
