Hot Work Checklist
Before Field Office Personnel FOP) can issue a Hot Work Permit the Contractor
shall ensure that
the
following precautions are taken;
1. Cutting and welding equipment has been inspected to make sure bottles are secure.
Cylinders have been supported or located in such a way that they cannot be knocked over.
2. Hoses have been inspected for bums, cuts, worn places, abrasions and similar defects.
Taped repairs are unacceptable.
3. Hose connections have
been inspected to make sure
they are secure and tight.
4. The presence or
development of possibly
explosive mixtures of flammable
gases
or
vapours and air has
been checked.
5 The possible presence of
an oxygen-enriched atmosphere
in
the location where the work is
to be performed has been
checked.
6. Work area has been
inspected to ensure it is safe for
welding and cutting operations,
by being clear of combustibles
or ensure the work is moved to a
location free from combustibles.
Where the work could not be
moved, the combustibles have
been moved to a safe distance
or the combustibles have been
properly shielded against ignition.

on the floor, the floor has been swept clean for a radius of 15 metres. Combustible floors have
been kept wet covered with damp sand, or protected by non-combustible or fire-retardant
shields. Where floors have been wet down, personnel operating arc welding or cutting equipment
are being protected from possible electric shock.
8. All combustibles have been relocated at least 15 metres horizontally from the work site.
Where relocation is impractical, combustibles have been protected with fire-retardant covers
or
otherwise shielded with metal or fire-retardant guards or curtains. Edges of covers at the floor
