Complete a CILT Membership form.

Submit the application form together with your CV and a copy of your highest qualification certificate to Commerce Edge Academy - we will facilitate

your application with CILT SA.

CILT SA will conduct an assessment of your profile, as per your application and will advise you of your membership details, study programme and syllabus.

Should you wish, thereafter, to apply for exemptions for prior certifications or experiential learning, a separate application must be submitted to CILT for further assessment and

confirmation of any exemptions or accreditations regarded against the CILT unit content or level or accreditation of prior achievement (APC).

How to study We recognise that both individuals and their businesses require different ways of studying towards a CILT qualification. A college tuition of day or part-time evening classes does not suit everyone.

Commerce Edge Academy therefore offers both tutorial-enabled blended learning and classroom-based learning, providing tuition at CILT Levels 2, 3, 5 and 6. These learning choices afford you the opportunity to decide on a method of learning most suitable to your personal circumstances.

Classroom-based learning Additional face-to-face tuition will augment your learning process and will significantly improve your chances of achieving higher examination results. Duration of study The duration of study using Commerce Edge Academy’s TEBLOS system is largely dependent on the student’s diligence and ability to grasp the subject matter. The average duration of study required per unit is approximately 60 hours. A student who diligently studies approx. 6 hours per week, including attendance of a 1-day revision workshop, should be able to complete a CILT study unit in approx. 8-9 weeks.

Study guide Upon enrolment, students are issued with a study guide that explains how to study and the number of hours required in order to be adequately prepared for the examinations.

Learner guides / workbooks The CILT course books form an integral part of the learning: all the students are required to have CILT course books. Upon confirmation of study level and membership number, the student is issued with the CILT course books appropriate to the level.

TEBLOS access Once a student has been enrolled, with study level and membership number confirmed by CILT, the student is now provided access to CEA’s learner support system, TEBLOS.

Examination enrolment Commerce Edge Academy is a CILT examination centre, and all examination registration processes are done via Commerce Edge Academy.

Exemptions process Owing to the structure of CILT international qualifications there is no option for partial study towards a full CILT qualification e.g. a previous course in an aspect of supply chain management cannot be substituted for a unit within the CILT course structure. However, where a student does not wish to take the full course they can be enrolled on single modules and receive a ‘unit’ award. However, this is not the same as being given a full certificate or diploma.

Recognition of prior learning Commerce Edge can however review the prior learning (academic, practical and managerial track record) and then determine which level could be most appropriate for that entrant e.g. a transport manager that has 10 years’ experience and some basic supply chain qualifications could enter at Diploma level if there was evidence that they were capable of the level of study and sitting the exams.

One has to be a MILT before enrolling on the diploma course. CE recommends in turn to CILT SA.

Qualifications ladder

Level 2: Introductory Certificate in Logistics and Transport This qualification offers a broad understanding of the principles, applications and concepts of logistics. This course can be taken in full, or by single module format.

Level 3: International Certificate in Logistics and Transport This qualification is a free-standing qualification, designed to provide a sound foundation for a career within the transport and supply chain fields and to provide learners with a complete set of management skills. This course can be taken in full, or by single module format.

Level 5: International Diploma in Logistics and Transport This qualification is designed to enhance new and existing expertise in the supply chain, passenger transport, and road freight or transport planning environments as well as develop core management skills. This is an equivalent to a Diploma of NE/HND or two years of an undergraduate degree. This course can be taken in full, or by single module format.

Level 6: International Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport This qualification provides the strategic management skills and tactical insight necessary for professional and business development. It bridges the gap between the undergraduate level of the Level 6 Professional Diploma and the postgraduate standard of a Masters degree. It broadly equates to a full degree and provides the academic exemption for Chartered Membership (professional experience at the correct level would still need to be provided).

Membership criteria• Fellow: Fellowship of CILT (FCILT) is open to Chartered Members who have at least seven years’

experience in a position or positions of high responsibility in the management of logistics or transport. In exceptional circumstances it is also granted to individuals who have attained a position of eminence in logistics or transport or who have made a significant contribution to the industry and profession.

• Chartered Member: Full membership, including voting rights and letters after your name (CMILT). It is open to those individuals who hold the CILT Advanced Diploma, or an exempting qualification (usually an approved degree), and have at least five years’ relevant experience in logistics or transport, including two years at a senior level. There are in addition specific routes to Chartered Membership for those people who have significant relevant experience but not the educational qualifications.

• Professional Member: Professional Members have access to the benefits of CILT membership, and letters after your name (MILT). Members grade is open to those who have relevant qualifications and experience, but who do not yet qualify for chartered status.

• Affiliate: Affiliate offers access to all the benefits of CILT membership, except voting rights and letters after your name. Affiliate is open to those who are interested in logistics and transport, but who do not qualify for or aspire to higher grades of membership.

• Student: This grade is for those who are new in the logistics and transport industry and who are studying towards a logistics and/or transport qualification.

Pathways • Education The CILT qualifications lead to international recognition with a designation signifying the hall of fame.

• Training The CILT training courses are designed to suit your individual needs, with the short courses leading to a qualification.

Examinations The CILT examinations are normally written twice a year in March and September, although extra cycles can be included. Normally the timeframe from sitting final exams, moderation/checking and issue of final certification is around eight weeks.

Assessment and moderation Assessment would be done by Commerce Edge Academy, with moderation conducted in the UK.
