Look at this advertisement. Describe what you can see in the image. E.g. • Low-cut top • Tuxedo • Perfume
Once you’ve done that, start to think about what these different things mean. E.g. • Low-cut top = sexy, appeals
to men, aspirational to women
• Tuxedo = wealthy, important, smart, aspirational to men
Sean John is in the middle= he's most important
Low cut top= sexy. Women want to be like them, men want to stare at them!
Sean John is king? Or YOU are king? Autograph= fame
Helicopter= wealth
Tuxedo = smart, wealthy, important
Suggestive body Ianguage = sex appeal
Ring= Marriage?
King = Royalty. Celebrity as royals worship
What is the overall MESSAGE that this
advertisement is trying to send?
“This advertisement for ‘I am King’ is persuading the
audience to buy it by…”
Sender encodes a message. Receiver decodes a
message. Receiver acts (hopefully
buying the product)
