Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962, in Lokeren, Belgium and graduated in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas, in Ghent. From 1986 to 1989 he worked in Milan and Brussels. He opened his own studio in Antwerp in 1990 focusing on architecture and interior design. The relationship between interior design and architecture in his work is profound.

His furnishings and accessories are designed with an architectural perspective that is not limited by form, but is expressed with a careful perception of interior space and its relationship to the exterior architecture. By interpreting architecture and redefining its proportions, Van Duysen creates objects of great purity and simplicity that still retain a concrete character and solid form.

ABOUT MOLTENI GROUP

Founded in 1934, The Molteni group is one of Italy’s leading industrial groups in the furnishing sector. It comprises of Molteni&C (home furnishings) and Dada (kitchens). The group provides a global offering in the furniture sector.

The Molteni group has always worked with esteemed designers such as Rodolfo Dordoni, Foster & Partners, Ferruccio Laviani, Jean Nouvel, Patricia Urquiola, Paola Navone, and Vincent Van Duysen. The group also has the rights to reproduce and reissue designs by well revered Italian architect, Gio Ponti, under the Molteni&C Heritage Collection.

Molteni is also active in major contracts such as hotels, museums, ships, shop chains, hospitals and theatres.

Recent examples include furnishings for the Walt Disney cruise ships built by Fincantieri, furnishings for the Cartier chain of boutiques all over the world and for the Cartier Foundation in Paris.

505 is a bookcase, glass cabinet, home office or multimedia unit. It can be placed on the floor or hung on the wall and can be furnished in mainly elm, eucalyptus,

durmast, glass and aluminium. Protruding tops can be added in the system as a work surface, desk or bookshelves.

Grid is a modular system characterized by a folding panel system which LED lighting can be installed, both in the central part and at the top, all the way down linking to hi-tech

equipment. Grid’s compositional freedom is further extended at the top by open bookshelves, display units of varying heights, with either Pewter or Copper metallic finishes.

Modular Systems Pass-word evolves radically to meet new ways of using domestic spaces, marked by the growing presence of multimedia entertainment systems and/or home working.

A new vertical open unit creates open spaces alternating with those closed by doors or drawers.

Flexibility, design and contemporary style describe the Molteni&C bookcase units and multimedia systems. Each of

Oriental in design, the bed is simple and essential, featuring wood as the main material, teamed with metal and soft textiles or leather. The headboard is tall and inviting, almost

embracing the bed itself. The inside of the headboard is lined with soft textiles or monochrome leather. The centre is supported by a comfortable cushion which acts as a headrest.

LET IT SINKDrawing on London splendour, Flemish pragmatism, Italian features and a love of aesthetics, Molteni&C beds speak a multitude of languages – those of the internationally famous designers who have dreamed up their concepts. GLISS MASTER SKINThe Skin door is completely covered in eco skin and has an aluminum frame that gives the surface characterizing square patterns. Available only in the hinged version. Handle in pewter finish or pewter covered in eco skin.

NEW INTERNAL ACCESSORIESThe sophisticated pull-out shirt rack, pull-out drawers and trays, shoe racks, accessories such as the tie rack, “eco skin” jewellery case and the new led lighting system are just some of the novel ideas.

Fine grain is a new, sumptuous and exclusive lacquer finish on a printed surface that can also be used for drawer back and front. An exclusive Molteni&C design - starting from a gold base, five coats of varnish are applied with special intermediate satinizing and sanding.

MASTER DRESSINGis a walk-in wardrobe system that completes the wide range of night time systems offered by Molteni&C. The system perfectly complements the Gliss Master wardrobes thanks to the use of coordinated internal fittings and aesthetic finishes, thereby providing functional and impactful walk-in closets.

The system is fitted with newly designed shelf support rods that will take 30 mm thick Ecopelle and illuminated glass shelves, or 40 mm thick wooden shelves. Newly designed sets of drawers, new tie and foulard rack accessories. Brand new “Vanity” compartment, complete with large illuminated LED mirror.

SATISFYING EVERY MEALVVD designed by Vincent Van Duysen works on the contrast between thickness on the sides (slender) and worktops (solid), alternating between weight and materials to achieve a sophisticated, dynamic effect. The kitchen design has no handles but come with open drawers and pull-out trays to which suspended compositions can be integrated using the aluminium supporting frame.

Hi Line 6 is manufactured with full of details and attractive touches withhighly practical elements that stand out, like the high bases and the opening systems for the doors withno handles.

Metal grids define the basic architecture, wall units, columns, hoods and accessories of Ratio, Vincent Van Duysen’s second kitchen for Molteni&C. Full volumes, empty volumes and tops of different thicknesses are hooked to the slender and minimal techno/structural elements, creating an elegant interplay of balances.

“HAPPINESS IS A SMALL HOUSE, WITH A BIG KITCHEN.” ALFRED HITCHCOCK

Prime is designed to express the full potential of a kitchen featuring recessed opening. It comes in a range of different compositions designed to meet the most sophisticated aesthetic demands.

The project also presents a new glass door for wall units and Flair columns, both lit with concealed LED profiles in the sides of the units.

The Prime snack bar completes the composition, with a titan and pewter aluminium framework and a top made of dark walnut accompanied by Woody stools by Francesco Meda.

The finger recess runs seamlessly the length and breadth of the product and ends on the side panels, an alternative solution to the finished sides.

The main functions of washing and cooking are centred around a self-supporting structure, patented by Dada. Banco redefines contrasts in materials and is offered mainly in black and white.

The structure remains suspended in mid-air, and is completed by floor standing base units. The island

structure supports the under-Banco base units.

Shapes, materials, colours and new details exemplify INDada giving rise to infinite compositions

to build a unique, personalised style and a design concept that is a poetic exercise in style.

MASTER OF HIS TIMEMolteni&C dedicated its Gio Ponti Collection to the great Milanese master. These objects are expressions of the Master’s creativity and versatility, and personality. Some are public pieces, commissioned by major industries, while some are private pieces, originally designed for his home or customers. D.859.1 is designed primarily as a meeting table for up to ten people, stands out not only for its impressive size—over 3.6m long—but especially for its simple yet refined design. The legs are notable for their fine-membered modernity, creating a trapezoidal single-span bridge upon which the large tapered top conveys the idea of aerodynamics.

Originally made of solid ash with bronze ferrules, it is now also available in a darker-toned wood such as Black Stained Ash. In addition to its original dimensions, the D.859.1 is available in two smaller version that faithfully reproduce the harmony and proportions of the original design.

A HOMAGE TO GIO PONTIThe protagonists of the campaign are the D.156.3, D.154.2 and D.153.1 lounge chairs, and the D.555.1 coffee table, designed by Gio Ponti in the second half of the 1950s, alongside Werner Blaser’s chest of drawers (1955) and Yasuhiko Itoh’s bookcase (1959) the first prototypes of modern furniture being produced today.

Furniture included in the Heritage Collection project, which aims to highlight key historical pieces of Italian design, re-edited with attention to the original thanks to the contribution of historians and experts and of archival sources such as the Gio Ponti Archives and the Molteni&C Archives. A forward-looking collection, illustrated today in an unusual way.
