Jason Woodman begins his fourth season as head football coach at Fairmont State University after leading the Falcons to a third place finish in the Mountain East Conference standings in 2015. Wood-man was named the 18th coach in program history on December 20, 2012.

Last season following a slow start for FSU, Wood-man and his staff led the Falcons to a 6-2 record in the final eight games of the season. The finish helped the Falcons to a 6-4 overall record and a third place finish in the league. Following the season, nine FSU players earned All-Mountain East Conference honors, including Jacob Jean-Charles who earned first team honors and was named an all-region cornerback by the Don Hansen Football Gazette.

In 2015, the FSU offense scored 30-points or more in six games and quarterback Cooper Hibbs completed nearly 60 percent of his passes and did not throw an interception until the seventh game of the season. Hibbs finished the year with 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions, passing for over 2,400 yards.

In addition to Hibbs’ standout season, the FSU offense had three players earn all-conference honors, including junior wide receiver Fabian Guerra and senior running back Austin White.

In his first two seasons on the FSU sideline, Wood-man produced seven All-MEC performers and an All-Atlantic region honoree. Following the 2014 season, Fabian Guerra earned third team All-Atlantic Region honors by Beyond Sports Network and freshman in-side linebacker Marcus Porter was named a Freshman All-American by USA College Football.

Woodman came to Fairmont State after serving as the offensive coordinator at Bowie State in 2011 and 2012. The Bulldogs set several school records and ranked among the best in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). He coached three players to All-CIAA honors and his offense averaged well over 350 yards per game during his time with BSU.

Prior to his stint at Bowie State, Woodman worked for two years at Concord as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator and helped resurrect the Mountain Lion program. In his two seasons with the program, the Mountain Lions compiled a record of 14-8. Woodman also helped develop wideout Thomas Mayo into a first team All-WVIAC performer in both of his seasons as wide receivers coach at Concord.

Woodman began his college coaching career with three seasons at Louisiana State University (2004-2006) under head coaches Nick Saban and Les Miles. Woodman worked as a graduate assistant under Jimbo Fisher, then the Tigers’ Offensive Coordinator.

When Florida State hired Fisher in 2007, Woodman followed the coach to Tallahassee to work under legendary head coach Bobby Bowden.

The following year, Woodman was hired at Cali-fornia University (Pa.). With Woodman as running backs coach, the Vulcans went 13-1, winning their first outright Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship and setting a school record for wins in a season while helping the Vulcans to the national semifinals.

Woodman and his wife, Kari, have four children, sons Taner, Knox and Brodi and daughter Kinleigh.

Fairmont State’s 2016 football team has passed every test so far this fall, but the unbeaten and 17th-ranked Falcons will unquestionably face their toughest task on the road Saturday at noon when they square off with perennial Mountain East Conference and NCAA Division II Super Region 1 power Shepherd University at Ram Stadium.

The Rams, who played for the D-II national cham-pionship last year and lost to five-time champion Northwest Missouri State, 34-7, are unbeaten once again this fall. Shepherd is 8-0 both overall and in the MEC and will enter Saturday’s contest ranked No. 3 in the nation in the AFCA Top 25 Poll and third in the latest Super Region 1 Rankings. FSU is fourth in Super Region 1.

The Falcons are 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the MEC.

Saturday’s winner will secure at least a share of the 2016 MEC title. Shepherd has won two of three MEC championships since the league formed in 2013. Fairmont State’s last conference champion-ship in football was 16 years ago in 2000 when the Falcons claimed a share of the title in the old WVIAC.

It’s no secret that Shepherd has dominated its series with Fairmont State the last 20 years. Dur-ing that span the Rams hold a 17-3 lead in the se-ries, including a current winning streak of seven straight against the Falcons. Ironically, all three of Fairmont’s wins in the series the last 20 years have come in Shepherdstown. The Falcons won 27-26 in 1996, 25-23 in 2000 and 46-42 in 2008. FSU’s last victory over Shepherd at home was in 1995, 36-29.

“We know we’re going to face a great team in Shepherd,” FSU senior quarterback Cooper Hibbs said. “The good thing is because we played Thurs-day we’ll have nine days to get some people healthy and get prepared. We know it’s a huge test for us and preparation is going to be crucial for us.

“We’re 9-0 and that feels great, but we also know we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Like I said Saturday is a big, big challenge. We know that and we know we’re going to have to play our best football.”

In the last seven years the average margin of vic-tory for Shepherd over FSU has been 23.1 points. The only real close game between the two teams in that span was a 19-16 Shepherd victory in Shep-herdstown in 2010. The last time Fairmont visited Ram Stadium the Falcons’ current seniors were sophomores and they suffered a 56-0 loss in a game in which Shepherd totally dominated. That afternoon Shepherd rolled to a 28-0 halftime lead en route to the win. The Rams’ defense also held FSU to just five first downs and 77 total yards, including just 39 on the ground and a mere 38 through the air.

Last year at Fairmont’s Duvall-Rosier Field Shep-herd raced to a 34-7 halftime lead on its way to a 41-14 victory.

“Shepherd is a great team. There’s no doubt about it,” FSU junior defensive end Quincy Redmon said.

“Facts are facts and every year they prove them-selves on the field. This year I think we’re a little different team than we’ve been here in the past. I’m looking forward to a great game.”

Both the Falcons and Rams have fielded outstand-ing defenses this fall. Shepherd is first in the MEC and sixth in the nation in total defense allowing just 261.0 yards per game. FSU is second in the league and 15th in Division II allowing 295.0 yards per outing.

The Rams are 11th in the country against the run (89.9), 17th against the pass (171.1) and 16th in points allowed per game (16.1). Fairmont is 17th in the nation in rushing yards allowed (92.9), tied for second in points allowed (12.1) and tied for fourth in turnover margin (+15).

Shepherd’s offense is also outstanding. The Rams are 11th in the nation in scoring (41.8), fifth in pass-ing (356.5) and 16th in total offense (492.1).

Fairmont State and Shepherd are two of only eight unbeaten teams remaining in NCAA Divi-sion II football.---In Fairmont’s thrilling 23-19 victory over then No. 25 Notre Dame College on Oct. 27 at Duvall-Rosier Field the Falcons’ defense had to make two stands inside of the final 4:54 to help preserve the victory.

First, FSU stopped NDC on downs at the Falcons’ 26 with 1:24 to play. Then after Fairmont couldn’t move the football and suffered a shanked eight-yard punt Notre Dame got the football at the FSU 37 with 1:01 remaining. A first down pass to the end zone was nearly intercepted, but fell incom-plete. On second down Falcon junior defensive end Quincy Redmon and junior linebacker Marcus Porter combined to sack NDC quarterback Malik Grove and force a fumble which FSU senior defen-sive tackle Jordan Adderly recovered at the 50 to secure the victory for his team with 44 seconds left to play.

“We knew that game was going to be a four-quar-ter game and it was,” said Porter, who finished with a game-high 13 tackles. “We prepared all week for that. On the last play coach (Zach Cris-sup) had me add on when they were in empty. The whole game when they went empty the middle was opening up. It did again, I joined the rush and me and Quincy got the sack and forced the fumble.

“As a defense we always prepare for those tight, late-game situations. We practice that all of the time and we were able to make a crucial play when we needed it.”

Redmon says he’s glad Fairmont’s defense was able to secure the win.

“The credit for the win and the last play goes to our whole defense,” said Redmon, who finished with nine tackles, one forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked extra point in the victory. “Everyone had to do their job for us to be success-ful.

“As a defense we love being in that late-game scenario where we have to make a stop to get the win. Put it on us. Offense scores points and tonight our guys on offense did a good job of get-ting points when we needed them, but defense wins championships. We knew we had to make a couple of stops there late and we got it done.”---With Fairmont State standout senior receiver Fa-bian Guerra sidelined with an injury in the Notre Dame game other members of the Falcons’ receiv-ing corps knew they needed to step up and help fill the void. True freshmen Laurence King and An-dre Hall, along with redshirt sophomore Jeff Iweh did just that.

King finished with a game-high 10 receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown and also added a 99-yard kickoff return for a score. His 10 catches and 106 receiving yards were all career highs for him. King now has a team-leading 64 receptions for 639 yards and four TDs.

“When Fab went down we all knew we had to step up and make up for him being out,” King said. “I thought Dre did a helluva job for us. He had been playing outside and with Fab down he moved back inside and had to re-learn the routes. He re-ally performed great.

“On that last scoring drive for us he had some huge catches, including one on what I think was a third-and-nine play deep in our own end that went for 22 yards and a first down. That one even shocked me. I was like ‘Alright Dre, way to get it done.’”

Hall added seven catches for 79 yards in the win, while Iweh finished with four receptions for 48 yards.

After Notre Dame scored to make it 20-19 on the first play of the fourth quarter, Fairmont answered with a 15-play, 64-yard march which resulted in a 31-yard Sam Keil field goal to make it 23-19. On that drive Hall had four catches for 53 yards. Twice FSU faced third-and-nine situations and both times quarterback Cooper Hibbs connected with Hall, first for 22 yards and later for 15 yards to keep the drive going.

“Honestly as receivers I don’t think we had a very good week of practice, but in the game we stepped up and did what we had to do,” Hall said. “Losing Fab is a big blow to our offense, so we knew all of us had to pull together and make up for that.

“Late in the game after they scored we knew as an offense that we had to answer it somehow. We were kind of in a drought there and I told myself that I had to try to make some plays for us. Coop gave me the chances and I just tried to take ad-vantage of them.”

Hall now has 32 catches for 395 yards and three touchdowns this season. Guerra, who is expected to return to the lineup soon, has 52 catches for 643 yards and five TDs, while Brandon Boyd has 28 re-ceptions for 231 yards and Iweh has 15 catches for 255 yards and one score.

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored 20 third-quarter points and forced five second-half turnovers to rally past West Virginia State, 30-20, on Saturday afternoon at Lakin Field at Dickerson Stadium. Following 13 unanswered points by WV State to open the game, freshman wide receiver Andre Hall broke away from a Yellow Jacket defender and took off for a 42-yard touchdown with just 19 sec-onds remaining in the opening quarter. With the score still 13-7 in favor of the Yellow Jackets with just over six min-utes remaining in the second quarter, the Falcons went for a 4th-and-6 at-tempt from the WVSU 40 yard line and were held a yard short on a complete pass from Hibbs to Hall. On the next offensive snap, State signal caller Matt Kinnick hooked up for a 65-yard touch-down strike to Akil Washington, push-ing the Yellow Jackets lead to 20-7. Fairmont State kicker Sam Keil wrapped up the scoring in the opening half by connecting on a 25-yard attempt with under a minute remaining before half-time. It took very little time for the Falcons to cut into the halftime deficit when Ra-keem Darden capped a five-play, 38-yard drive in just 1:14. The drive was aided by a 60-yard kick return by Laurence King and a 40-yard pass over the middle to Hall. Following a three-and-out by WV State, Terrell Charles gave FSU its first lead of the day by capping a nine-play, 71-yard

drive with a six-yard touchdown run. The drive was keyed by three catches for 46 yards from King, another fresh-man FSU receiver that turned in a great performance in his Falcon debut this af-ternoon. Later in the third quarter on a punt by Sam Tucker, the WV State returner muffed the punt at the State 36 and Quincy Redmon recovered to set up the FSU offense in Yellow Jacket territory. On the first offensive snap of the drive, Charles crossed the goal line for the sec-ond time from 30-yards out to open up a 10 point FSU lead (30-20) with 5:04 re-maining in the third. Although the fourth quarter was score-less for both teams, the FSU defense did its job to help close out the victory by forcing turnovers on each of the first three State possessions. The turnovers included a second fumble recovery by Redmon, an interception by Antonio Harris and a fumble recovery by Eman-uel Ivey. FSU forced its fourth turnover of the fourth quarter with just over a minute remaining when Calvin Pringles picked-off Kinnick. Senior quarterback Cooper Hibbs com-pleted 26-of-40 pass attempts for 328 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Hibbs also threw a first half intercep-tion. Hall opened his FSU career with 11 catch-es for 178 yards and the opening score of the day for the Falcons. King pulled in eight receptions for 98 yards on the

afternoon. Senior Fabian Guerra also chipped in three receptions for 33 yards in the victory. After managing just nine carries for 23 yards in the opening half, Charles led the FSU rushing attack with 114 yards on 25 carries, crossing the goal line twice. In addition to forcing five turnovers on the afternoon, the FSU defense was led by Stephen Turner and Jerry Iweh with eight tackles apiece. Redmon was a force on the FSU defensive line with five tack-les, two fumble recoveries, a sack and a pass break-up. Marco Jones also had a big day at the opposite defensive end spot, finishing with six tackles, a sack, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. Josh Ballard recorded the third sack of the day for the FSU defense. Kinnick connected on 22-of-38 pass at-tempts for 345 yards and two touch-downs. Kinnick also threw a pair of in-terceptions. Quinton Gray was on the receiving end of nine passes for 87 yards and Washington add five receptions for 142 yards, aided by a 65-yard touchdown reception. Jay Terry and Mitchell Rowell each re-corded 10 tackles to lead the State de-fense on the afternoon. Ayinde Warren forced the only Yellow Jacket turnover by intercepting Hibbs in the opening half. Both teams recorded over 400 yards of total offense with State holding a 441-432 advantage. The teams also com-bined for 27 penalties for 240 yards.

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- Terrell Charles scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to help Fairmont State rally past West Liberty, 21-20, on Thursday night in the Mountain East Conference Game of the Week. WLU led 20-7 entering the fourth quarter of play. With the win, Fairmont State improves to 3-0 for the first time since 1981. That season FSU began the year 6-0 and fin-ished the season with a 9-2 mark. West Liberty falls for the third time this sea-son and is now 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league. FSU cut the West Liberty lead to 20-14 at the 11:42 mark of the fourth quarter when Charles crossed the goal line from four-yards out. The drive was set up by a 13-yard punt return by Andre Hall and two 19-yard receptions, one from Cooper Hibbs to Fabian Guerra and the other from Hibbs to Brandon Boyd. On the following WLU possession, Hill-topper quarterback Brenton Colabella was sacked by Fairmont’s Josh Ballard on third down to force a punt. However, FSU went three-and-out on the ensuing possession and the Falcons settled for a Samuel Tucker punt that was downed at the WLU 20.

After the Hilltoppers picked up a first down and advanced to the WLU 34, Marcus Porter ripped the ball loose from Hilltopper running back Jeremiah Ortiz and the ball was recovered by Dalton In-man at the West Liberty 37-yard line. Five plays later, Charles took a hand-off 10 yards for the game-winning FSU score, capping a five-play, 37-yard pos-session. FSU kicker Sam Keil knocked through the extra point to put FSU out in front, 21-20. On West Liberty’s final possession, Co-labella was sacked on third-down by Quincy Redmon before being intercept-ed by Jerry Iweh on 4th-and-18. FSU quarterback Cooper Hibbs finished the day 27-of-40 for 273 yards and a score. Hibbs also threw an uncharac-teristic three interceptions in the game. Charles finished the day with 85 yards on 22 carries, scoring both fourth quar-ter touchdowns. Guerra had another breakout perfor-mance for FSU this evening, pulling-in eight receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown, his fourth score in the last two games.

Porter had a monster performance for the FSU defense, recording 14 total tack-les (nine solo) and forcing a fumble. Redmon also had a big day on defense, recording nine total tackles and three sacks. Emanuel Ivey and Iweh each chipped in seven tackles apiece. Colabella finished the day 6-of-20 for 121 yards and a pair of scores after replac-ing starting quarterback Dakota Con-well because of injury early in the first quarter. WLU receiver Dan Monteroso hauled in four catches for 118 yards and two scores for the WLU offense. West Liberty’s defense was led by Logan Deri with nine solo stops and an inter-ception. Despite trailing for a majority of the evening, the Falcons outgained West Liberty, 373-285, in the victory. FSU once again had over 100-yards in penalties, being flagged 13 times for 117 yards. FSU was called for eight penalties for 95 yards in the opening half of play.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After trading scores early in the game, Fairmont State scored 41 unanswered points to rout Urbana, 48-14, on Homecoming Saturday at Du-vall-Rosier Field. With the win, the Falcons improve 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Urbana slips to 1-4 both overall and in the MEC. Senior quarterback Cooper Hibbs fin-ished the afternoon by going 22-of-37 for 240 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Backup quarterback Takwan Crews-Naylor also threw his first-career touchdown pass in the fourth quarter; competing 2-of-3 passes for 69 yards and a score. Laurence King nearly missed the cen-tury mark to lead all FSU receivers, to-taling nine catches for 94 yards and a touchdown on the afternoon. King also recorded a 53-yard punt return in the second quarter. Senior receiver Fabian Guerra also hauled in six receptions for 76 yards and a score. Guerra, who is third in school history in both receptions and receiving yards, now needs just two catches and 158 yards to move into sec-ond in school history in both categories. James Oliver led the FSU ground attack with 127 yards on 17 carries, with a ma-jority of those yards coming on a 61-yard touchdown run with 1:13 remaining in

the third quarter. Rakeem Darden also crossed the goal line for the second-straight game, totaling 35 yards on six carries and scoring a touchdown.

The FSU offense rolled up 533 yards of total offense in the victory, including 309 yards through the air. After giving up touchdowns on the first two Urbana possessions of the game, the FSU defense tightened-up, allow-ing just 197 yards and intercepting three passes the remainder of the game, al-lowing zero points in the final three quarters of play. Marcus Porter recorded a team-high six tackles in the FSU victory. Demonne Cox, Arnold Roots, Antonio Harris and Stephen Turner each chipped in four tackles apiece. Turner, Emanuel Ivey and Michael Porter each picked-off passes for the FSU defense and Quincy Red-mon recorded a sack. Redmon has now recorded a sack in seven of the last eight games. With the score tied at 14-14 early in the second quarter, Hibbs and Guerra gave the Falcons the lead for good on a 13-yard pass-and-catch over the middle. Sam Keil, last week’s MEC Player of the Week, also converted on a 29- and 39-yard field goal in the second quarter to send the Falcons to the locker room leading 27-14.

With Urbana threatening at the FSU 13 early in the third quarter, Turner picked-off a pass and returned it 85-yards for the score, putting the Falcons in front 34-14 with 11:22 remaining in the third quarter. FSU added to its lead late in the third when Oliver took a handoff 61 yards to put FSU in front by a score of 41-14. FSU added one more score in the fourth when freshman receiver Dana Jackson hauled in a 37-yard touchdown strike from Crews-Naylor, scoring a touch-down on his first-ever collegiate recep-tion. Tajuan Green led Urbana in both pass-ing and rushing, completing 10-of-22 pass attempts for 131 yards and added 42 yards on 10 carries on the ground. Receiver Larry Southall led the Blue Knights with five receptions for 73 yards. Josh Dillard and Duray Hall each racked up double-digit tackles for the Blue Knights, recording 14 and 13, respective-ly. Dillard also picked off a pass for the Urbana defense. The Falcons will return to action next Saturday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Bobcats.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan, 31-17, on Saturday afternoon at Cebe Ross Field in Buckhannon. The win improves Fairmont’s record to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Mountain East Conference, matching the best start for the Falcons since the 1981 season. That season the Falcons finished the year 9-2, winning the WVIAC and receiving a berth in the NAIA Playoffs. The Bobcats fall to 1-5 both overall and in conference play. On the second possession of the sec-ond half after a fumble recovery by Dal-ton Inman at the FSU 14, Cooper HIbbs hooked up with Laurence King for a 14-yard touchdown strike, breaking the 10-10 halftime tie with nine minutes re-maining in the third quarter. Wesleyan quarterback Ryan Deal helped the Bobcats answer late in the third when he found Stephen Rogalski for a 22-yard touchdown, tying the game at 17-17 going into the fourth. FSU was quick to respond on its next possession, as Terrell Charles capped a seven-play, 72-yard drive with a 26-yard touchdown run that broke the tie for good. The touchdown was the second of the day for Charles as junior running back opened the scoring for the Falcons at the 10:04 mark of the opening quar-ter with a four-yard touchdown run. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcat offense

was limited to just 13 yards on 10 plays by the Falcons defense and Deal was picked-off by the Zack Hoover at the 12:45 mark. Jeff Iweh, who recorded his first career 100-yard receiving performance of his career, wrapped up the scoring on the afternoon by hauling in a 17-yard pass from Hibbs with 1:27 left to play. Hibbs finished the day by going 21-of-30 for 291 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Iweh finished the day with 102 yards on four receptions as a down-field threat for the Falcons all afternoon. Laurence King had another solid performance this afternoon with seven receptions for 81 yards and a score through the air. Fabian Guerra finished the day with six receptions for 60 yards, moving past Todd Anderson for second all-time in ca-reer receptions at Fairmont State. Guer-ra needs just seven more catches to pass Jason Trent as the all-time school leader in receptions. In addition to needing just seven recep-tions to become the all-time leader in school history in receptions, Guerra also needs just 98 yards to move into second in Fairmont State history in receiving yards. After being limited a week ago due to injury, Terrell Charles returned to the lineup and finished the afternoon with 92 yards on 25 carries. Charles also crossed the goal line twice in a game for the third time this season.

Deal led the Wesleyan offense by going 13-of-34 for 224 yards and a touchdown. Deal also threw an interception and was sacked twice by the FSU defense. Michael Anderson, who was averaging 154.8 yards on the ground coming into the afternoon, was held 50 yards under his season average with 104 yards on 23 carries. Anderson became the first back all season to record 100-yard rushing against the FSU defense. Anderson also crossed the goal line once for the Bob-cats. Ian Waddell led all Wesleyan receivers with three catches for 75 yards in the Bobcat loss. Marcus Porter led the FSU defense with eight total stops in the victory (seven solo). The Wesleyan defense was an-chored by Gabe Moultrie with 10 stops. Jabai Weems also added four tackles and an interception for the ‘Cats. The Falcons outgained the Bobcats 401-321 in the victory, but were penalized 11 times for 123 yards. FSU also held a 10-minute advantage in time of posses-sion. Fairmont State will return home to pre-pare for a short week as the Golden Eagles of Charleston visit Duvall-Rosier Field on Thursday evening at 7:10 p.m. in the Mountain East Conference Thurs-day night “Game of the Week.”

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State held off the University of Charleston, 21-13, on Thursday night at Duvall-Rosier Field to improve to 7-0 on the season. The 7-0 start is the first for the Falcons since the 1967 season, that season FSU went on to win the NAIA National Championship under legendary head coach Deacon Duvall.

In the victory, senior wide receiver Fabi-an Guerra hauled in nine receptions for 82 yards, making him the all-time school leader in receptions at Fairmont State, passing Jason Trent, a 2016 inductee in the Fairmont State Athletic Hall of Fame just a few weeks ago. Guerra now has 206 career receptions.

The Falcons (7-0, 6-0 MEC) were able to slow down the Charleston (2-5, 2-5 MEC) rushing attack holding the Golden Eagles to 107 yards. FSU was also +2 on turnovers on the night to help take the victory.

Fairmont State got on the board first with a Terrell Charles two-yard TD, and then took a 14-0 lead into halftime after Andre Hall hauled in a touchdown pass from Cooper Hibbs from 11 yards out.

The Golden Eagles got back into the game late in the third quarter when An-thony Fontana found Joey Augustin in the end zone for a 19-yard TD reception. UC had a chance to tie the game early in the fourth quarter after a blocked punt, but the FSU defense held strong on fourth down inside the red zone. After a huge red zone stop by the FSU defense, the Falcon offense went 81 yards during an 11-play drive that ended with Charles adding his second touch-down run of the night. Charles now has four multiple touchdown performances this season. Just over two minutes later, UC drove right down the field to keep its hopes of a comeback alive after Marvin Elam crossed the goal line on a one-yard touchdown run. UC’s reliable kicker Brett Benes missed on the extra point though to keep the FSU lead at 21-13. After a stop by the UC defense on the next FSU possession, Stephen Turner recorded his second interception of the night to end any hope of a UC rally. Fol-lowing Turner’s pick, the Falcons took three snaps from the victory formation to wrap up the victory.

Hibbs was efficient on the night, com-pleting 27-of-35 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown. Charles finished with 80 yards on the ground to go with his two scores. Marcus Porter and Turner each had nine tackles on the night to lead the FSU de-fense. Turner also forced a fumble and recorded two interceptions in the win, one in the second quarter and one in the fourth quarter that clinched the vic-tory for the Falcons. Siddiq Kanneh also recorded an interception for the FSU defense, giving the Falcons three in the game.

Marvin Elam had 59 yards rushing and a touchdown for UC. Anthony Fon-tana was 13-of-25 with one touchdown against three INTs. Augustin had 54 yards receiving to go with 41 yards rush-ing. Defensively, Zach Hadlock and Rah-keem Stallings each had 11 tackles on the night. The Falcons will now prepare for a criti-cal road contest at the University of Vir-ginia’s College at Wise next Saturday at 1 p.m at Carl Smith Stadium. UVa-Wise will travel to West Liberty on Saturday afternoon looking to improve to 5-2 on the season.

WISE, Va. -- Twenty-third ranked Fair-mont State made a statement on Sat-urday afternoon by picking up a 58-3 victory over the University of Virginia’s College at Wise at Carl Smith Stadium. The Falcons opened up a 23-0 advan-tage with 6:04 remaining in the open-ing quarter and never looked back in the win. In the opening half, the Falcons forced four turnovers and started eight possessions inside UVa-Wise territory. Starting middle linebacker Marcus Por-ter got the scoring started on the sec-ond play of the first Cavalier possession when he stuffed the WISE running back in the end zone to score two points for the Falcons. Laurence King added six more on the free kick when he fielded and returned the kick 82 yards for the FSU touchdown. The kick return for a touchdown was the first for Fairmont State since Matt Wilmer back on Nov. 3, 2012 against WV State. Following a nine-yard punt by UVa-Wise on its next possession, Cooper Hibbs ran an option-keeper around the left side of the offensive line that ended in the end zone from 43 yards away, making the score 16-0. The next UVa-Wise possession ended when Brycen Lee was picked-off by De-monne Cox at the WISE 43-yard line, once again giving the Falcons a drive start on the Cavs end of the field. Four plays later, Terrell Charles broke through the UVa-Wise defense and capped the drive with a 27-yard touchdown run. Late in the second quarter, FSU added to its 23-0 advantage when Hibbs found Andre Hall streaking down the home sideline for a 31-yard touchdown recep-tion.

On the next Cavalier possession, Lee was picked-off by true-freshman defen-sive back Michael Porter and returned the interception into UVa-Wise terri-tory at the 27-yard line. Three plays later, Hibbs found Shane Faett for his first ca-reer reception and touchdown, sending the game to the locker room with FSU holding a commanding 37-0 lead. To open the second half of action, the Cavs attempted an on-side kick that was recovered by the Falcons, giving FSU excellent field position once again, from the WISE 48. Five plays later, Hibbs recorded his fourth touchdown of the game by finding King for the 21-yard score. UVa-Wise put up its only points of the game on its first possession of the third quarter when Trent Martin converted on a 29-yard field goal. On the next FSU possession, the Falcons started subbing some younger players into the lineup while holding a 44-3 ad-vantage. In the fourth quarter, the Falcons put up 14 more points, starting with a two-yard run by Takwan Crews-Naylor with 14:36 remaining. Daniel Rodriguez wrapped up the scoring late in the fourth on an eight-yard touchdown run, becoming the fourth FSU running back to cross the goal line this season. With the 58-3 victory, the Falcons re-corded their highest scoring total in 20 years (1996 vs. WVU Tech, 67-0). The Falcon defense, who came into the game with a plus-10 turnover margin, forced five UVa-Wise turnovers and lim-ited the Cavs to just 217 yards of total of-fense on the afternoon. UVa-Wise came into the game averaging 369 yards per

game of total offense. The Falcons also held its third team this season without a touchdown in the blowout win. Cox led the FSU defense with seven to-tal stops, a sack, two fumble recoveries and an interception in the win. Abu Kai Kai also had a big day for the FSU de-fensive unit with three total tackles, 1.5 sacks and a 26-yard fumble recovery. The FSU offense finished the afternoon with 423 yards of total offense. Hibbs led the Falcons by completing 14-of-20 pass attempts for 157 yards and three touchdown passes in the victory. Hibbs also finished the game with 30 yards and a score on the ground. In addition to returning a kickoff for a touchdown, King led all FSU receiv-ers with six catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. Dana Jackson also added 54 yards on two receptions late in the game for the FSU offense. Fabian Guerra, who became the all-time leader in receptions at Fairmont State a week ago, moved into second all-time in career receiving yards this week by hauling in three catches for 33 yards. The FSU rushing attack was by commit-tee, led by Rakeem Darden with 60 yards on 11 carries. Rodrigues also chipped in 45 yards and Charles added 41 on the ground for the Falcons. Four different players recorded a rushing touchdown for the Falcons. Lee had a rough afternoon complet-ing just 9-of-17 passes for 103 yards. Lee threw two interceptions and was sacked four times in the game. James Cousins hauled in two receptions for 52 yards and Kier Townsend chipped in three for 49 yards to lead UVa-Wise through the air.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State defense made a pair of defensive stands in the final 4:54 of Thursday night’s Mountain East Conference Game of the Week to pick-up a 23-19 victory in an entertaining top 25 matchup against Notre Dame College at Duvall-Rosier Field. With the win, 20th-ranked Fairmont State improved to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the Mountain East Conference. The Falcons will now prepare for a show-down with the undefeated and third-ranked Rams of Shepherd next Satur-day in Shepherdstown. The game was announced as a Division II Showcase Game on Thursday afternoon and will be televised to a national audience on American Sports Network at 12 noon next Saturday. Notre Dame suffered its second loss of the season, both against ranked teams, and falls to 7-2 on the year and 6-2 in the league. The first FSU defensive stand came at the 1:24 mark of the fourth after a nine-play drive that took Notre Dame down to the FSU 26-yard line. On a 4th-and-five play, Malik Grove was flushed from the pocket and stepped out of bounds, allowing FSU to take over on downs. Fairmont State attempted to run out the clock on offense, but Notre Dame used its timeouts and held FSU without a first down to force a punt after just 23 seconds had elapsed on the drive. The FSU punt was muffed and only trav-eled eight yards, giving NDC the ball back inside FSU territory with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Fol-lowing an incomplete pass on a throw-away by Grove on first-down, the FSU defense forced a turnover on second

down when Quincy Redmon and Mar-cus Porter sacked Grove for a 16-yard loss, forcing the ball loose and allowing Jordan Adderley to come up with the game-clinching fumble recovery. Porter had a monster game for the FSU defense, recording a game-high 13 tack-les. Redmon was also a force for FSU with nine total stops, a sack-fumble and a fumble recovery. Antonio Harris and Dalton Inman also recorded sacks. FSU broke up seven passes on the evening. Laurence King was once again a play-maker for FSU, returning a kickoff for a touchdown and catching another to help lead Fairmont State to the victory. King scored a first quarter touchdown on a 24-yard reception, and then after Notre Dame tied the score he took the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touch-down. Late in the second, James Oliver added a short TD run for FSU, and then Notre Dame managed a score just before the end of the half to make the score 20-13 in favor of Fairmont State going into the locker room. After 33 points scored in the opening half of action, the second half was a defensive struggle with just nine total points scored, all of which coming in the fourth quarter. Greene scored his second touchdown of the night on the first play of the fourth quarter from two-yards out, but FSU blocked the point-after attempt for the second time in the game to cling to a 20-19 lead. Midway through the fourth, Sam Keil connected on a 31-yard field goal to push the FSU lead to 23-19,

which turned out to be the final points of the evening. Keil’s field goal capped a 15-play, 64-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes off the fourth quarter clock. King finished with 106 yards receiving with one touchdown to go along with his second kickoff return for a touch-down in as many weeks. Cooper Hibbs completed 24-of-39 with 268 yards and a touchdown in the win. In addition to King’s performance, Andre Hall also chipped in seven receptions for 79 yards and Jeff Iweh pulled in four catches for 48 yards in the absence of Fabian Guerra who missed the game due to injury. The FSU rushing attack struggled for much of the night, totaling just 46 yards on 25 carries. Grove was 15-of-31 for 230 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell Shegos had six catches for 87 yards. Onslow Williams had seven tackles on the night, includ-ing two for a loss to lead the NDC de-fense. Fairmont was outgained 358-314 in the game and NDC recorded eight more first downs, finishing with a 20-12 mar-gin. However, FSU did not commit a turnover in the win and forced two on defense. The Cavaliers, who managed just one rushing yard on 21 carries in the opening half, finished the day with 76 yards on 33 carries as a team. Victor Mitchell led the Cavs with 10 carries for 53 yards. Despite being limited on the afternoon, Zachary Blair led the WISE defense with 10 total tackles and a sack, recording 3.5 tackles for loss.

EDINBORO (PA.) RANKED IN AFCA DIVISION II COACHES’ TOP 25 POLL FOR FIRST TIME IN FIVE YEARS

WACO, TEX.– There will be two top 25 matchups this week in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, but one features a team that is ranked for the first time since October 3, 2011. After losing earlier in the season to No. 11 Indiana (Pa.), Edinboro (Pa.) has reeled off five-straight victories to jump into the poll at No. 24 with an 8-1 record. The Fighting Scots will put their new ranking on the line this Saturday as they travel to No. 6 California (Pa.) in a battle for the top spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division. For most of the top 10, it was business as usual as the top eight teams remained unchanged with Northwest Missouri State still sit-ting at No. 1 with all 30 first-place votes. The only change was to then-No. 9 Ashland (Ohio), who fell 12 places to No. 21 after its loss to Michigan Tech. LIU-Post (N.Y.) is ranked No. 10 this week, equaling their highest ranking in the Coaches’ Poll since November 19, 2002. The second top 25 matchup is for the top spot in the Mountain East Conference as No. 3 Shepherd (W.Va.) plays host to No. 17 Fairmont State (W.Va.). Both teams come into the game unbeaten.
