Local woman Edel O’Mahony, who is manager at the Bridge Inn on Great William O’Brien Street, is or- ganising what she says promises to be a day full of fun and laughter for local residents. She said: “The village has been through a tough few months between flooding and the post office leaving. After seeing how united the community is when a crisis arises, I would like to get them all together for a positive reason.” The event, which will get under way at the Bridge Inn from 4pm, will feature live music, finger food and spot prizes. Local businesses have also lent their support to the initiative and a book of vouchers that can be re- deemed in shops and businesses in the village will also be available. “I have also arranged for Heinek- en Ireland to get on board and between them and The Bridge Inn everyone will get a free drink on the day,” Ms O’Mahony added. Tickets for the event will be 5 and all proceeds will go directly to Blackpool Community Centre, and so in turn will be put back into the community. Among those taking to the stage for the event will be members of the Blackpool Youth Club who will per- form a short act that they recently showcased at the Firkin Crane Theatre in Shandon. Businesses supporting the initiat- ive include The Tanning Shop, Lee Cabs, Joyce’s Coal, Butterfly, The Bearhaven Bar, O’Halloran’s Bar, Centra Blackpool, Kingston Butchers, Blue Cabs and The Old Mill Confectionery.
