Essentials of the KNX requirements for training centres

Emphasis in the KNX Certification Scheme for training

centres is put on : • quality of service via a number of quality guidelines or

(optionally) compliance to ISO 900x

• quality of the tutors via participation to standardized tutor courses

• quality of courses via standardized documentation both for tutors as well as for installers

• quality of teaching equipment via KNX requirements



Overall organisational requirements for training centres

KNX requirements for KNX certified basic courses

Training equipment : list of minimum requirements media equipment (flipchart, large image projector, …) one practical training site for a maximum of two students (mobile) laboratory working tables with KNX devices for switching, dimming, shutter control

and line coupling one AT PC per laboratory working table and per tutor, fit for use with ETS version – full ETS

version on tutor PC, minimum ETS Lite on students – students can bring own laptops

Granting of KNX certificate : minimum requirements 40 training hours (45 minutes each) including practical and theoretical test all subjects dealt with in KNX training documentation theoretical part taught by KNX certified tutor practical classes make up at least 50 % of course duration

Certificate grants the right to apply for partnership – right to use partner logo – entry in list

of qualified persons on KNX web pages



Requirements exam for basic courses

KNX authorized/certified training centre has the right to offer exam separately to self-educated people

Theoretical (90’) : 50 questions out of pool (equally divided over the various chapters) – 20% rotation for each new exam – at end of course

Practical (90’) : planning/commissioning/diagnostics of KNX project with ETS – at end of course

Minimum marks : 50% for both parts unrestricted repetition exam papers may not leave training centre Archiving of exam results : 5 years



KNX requirements for KNX standardized advanced courses

Additional training equipment needed for topics: HVAC applications with KNX (individual room control + fan coil control) security applications with KNX (logical modules + input devices with monitored

cables)

Granting of KNX certificate : minimum requirements same as for basic courses, however only concluding practical test

Certificate grants the right to have additional entry in the partners database, showing successful attendance to

upgrade course (= no additional partner ‘gold’ certificate)



KNX requirements for KNX standardized tutor courses

Rules not applicable to KNX tutor crash courses !!

Granting of KNX certificate : minimum requirements entry conditions : presentation of a basic course and advance course

certificate not older than 2 years Only concluding theory exam – minimum marks 60 %

Certificate grants the right to teach KNX in a training centre (either free-lance or on the pay-roll) :

owing to the certificate the relevant training centre fulfils one major requirement for KNX certification



KNX requirements for other courses – certification procedure

Other courses - Attendance confirmation on KNX paper

If 75% of course duration present Can also be issued for persons who do not pass the KNX basic course exam

Advantages of KNX Certification

A KNX certified training centre Shall have own KNX Online Shop account Status of Account is set to other status than normal customer

Prices for purchase of licenses is lower Extra menu items in account to download KNX standardised training

Automatic adding of free ETS 4 Lite license When student results entered by certified training centre: when passed
