    Deliverance in a Local Church

I would like to share a bit about the value and importance ofdeliverance from the standpoint of a pastor. I pastor a Hebrew Christiancongregation and this past summer some strange things began tohappen in one of my counseling sessions. A person being dealt withreacted violently to a word of Scripture and began to literally roll onthe floor. I was ready to call for the men in white coats, but continuedprayer in the name of Jesus the essiah caused this unorthodo!behavior to subside. I had heard of possession" could this be related tothat#

A few weeks later, a couple from our congregation told us that theyhad taken their mentally ill son to Hegewisch $aptist Church. %hilethere they had picked up a copy of the pastor&s book, Battling theHosts of Hell, and gave it to me to read. I had great reservations, fearing it was some form of heresy'for had I not been educated inone of the finest colleges and seminaries in the nation, and they didnot touch on this sub(ect)

As I read the book, however, I was ama*ed at the pungent, straight+forward approach and the great number of Scripture passages hecited. I got my reek concordance and checked closely on what he wassaying. Strangely enough, although I had not previously seen it, thetruth about deliverance was actually couched in Scripture. I suggestedthat another leader of our church read the book. He had the samereaction that I did.

%e discussed attending some of the church services, but discoveredthat it was -uite a distance from us. %e called places closer which wethought might be similar to Hegewisch. As I -uestioned them, somethings were similar but when I asked the -uestion, /o you cast outdemons in your services# the answer was always the same0 1o.%e decided to go and see. If what %orley was saying was true, then weneeded to know more about it.

2he first time we sat toward the back and observed closely what wasgoing on. 2he services were warm and flowing and the singing andtestifying invigorating. 2he pastor&s message was as simple and plainas his book, but I was a bit surprised that there was no mention ofdemons at all. 2he passage he used said nothing about them. %henthe invitation began, he mentioned that if people had demonicproblems they could come for prayer. I was feeling that perhaps

nothing was going to happen and was frankly a bit disappointed. Iwatched as many people went forward to have prayer for healing. Itwas all very -uiet, orderly and reverent.

In a few minutes, I nearly (umped out of my shoes. 2here was ablood curdling shriek echoing from the front and I saw a woman

(erking back from the people praying, and screaming horribly. 2hepeople in the church did not seem in the least upset and very efficientworkers -uietly moved in on either side of the struggling figure. Aboutthat time another one went off on the opposite side of the auditoriumand the fight was really on. I was thoroughly shaken. 2he -uietpreliminaries were so low key I was unprepared for what washappening.

I was trying to decide what to do when the pastor walked up andinvited me to come to the front with my friend to see at close -uarters

what was taking place. I guess we looked uncertain for he assured usthere was no danger and led us to the front. 2hat night we saw andheard things we had never imagined possible and witnessed severaldeliverances which were going on simultaneously. y friend decidedto ask for prayer and I watched in awe as the demons began to wail inhim and contort and twist his body as they left him. 2his thing wasreal, this much I knew.

I visited the church several times after this and spent time with thepastor asking -uestions. $efore long I found myself helping in deliver+

ance there. 2he conviction grew that perhaps here was the answer formany who were not able to receive help through traditional means ofcounseling.

Soon we applied prayer and deliverance along with counseling inour church and with astonishing results. 3eople began to change asvarious spirits were cast out. Indeed, for the first time there seemed tobe an ability to apply scriptural teachings for life changing personalchanges. %e have now set aside regular periods for group prayer andcounsel and have seen the power of our 4ord manifest in wonderful

ways. 2he pages of the 1ew 2estament have a new and vital relevancefor us now and the reality of the power of the blood and name of Jesusthe essiah is overwhelming.

I must praise the 4ord for the people of Hegewisch $aptist Churchwho have followed their pastor in giving themselves selflessly to all whocome their way in order that the devil be defeated. 2he manifest+tations in our sessions have been very similar to those at Hegewisch.od is indeed at work to heal and save.
