We can find the example of evangelism in Matthew 28:16ff just before Jesus returned to God after the resurrection. “Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

February is the month of LOVE as we celebrate Valentine’s Day, and Jesus teachings show us we are to ‘Love God ‘and ‘Love our neighbor.’ He also told us how to love our neighbor, which I call

the four acts for Jesus. They are Evangelism, Mission, promote Peace and Justice, and Nurturing, which includes worship. We are

able to find specific sayings of Jesus for each one of these.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."” In Matthew 25:37ff Jesus instructs us about mission in his one of his teachings on the kingdom: "Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' We can find Jesus mandate for peace & justice in one of his early visits to a synagogue where he told us of one of the reasons Jesus was here. What Jesus does, we should do as well. This is in Luke 4—16ff ‘He [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." This is from Isaiah 61:1,2. Nurturing can be found in John in one of the appearances of Jesus at the lakeshore after the resurrection. Nurturing includes teaching, worshiping, and encouraging. It is found in John 21:15ff “When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "You know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.

You are invited to read for yourself these passages in the Bible and act in love accordingly. Pastor Doug

Family

night

Our first family fun night was a big success with lot of laughs and excitement. The evening consisted of pizza, a scavenger hunt, and making family prayer boxes. These family nights are designed to give parents, grandparents, and kids a place to relax and have fun in a Christian environment. These nights will take place the last Friday of the month and vary each month. Many of our events will be for our entire congregation to come together as one family.

New First Family Weekly Emails

If you would like to receive a weekly email with reminders, updates and info for our children and youth please fill out the info sheet in the atrium or contact Susan Barrett to sign up. These emails will be sent each Tuesday to keep everyone informed and up to date. With so many exciting things happening here at Pendleton First with our children, youth, and families this will be another way to stay informed.

C.R.E.W. is a student ministry at Pendleton First that serves any student ages 7th-12th grade. CREW meets every Sunday night from 5:30-7:30. A typical night consists of dinner and icebreaker/games, high-energy and/or team games, a Biblical message and small group time. On Friday January 19th-21st we took 14 students and 7 adult leaders on our annual Youth Winter Retreat. For the retreat, we travel up o a campground in Jones, Michigan called “Bair Lake Bible Camp.” The students had an awesome time. The weekend was filled with some high-energy games and activities like: rockwall climbing, ice wall climbing, snow tubing, basketball, dodgeball and CLOSE TO the greatest game ever invented-“Broomball” which is hockey played with a broom and a ball-on ice with no skates-just straight boots or tennis shoes! The games were competitive, and although there were no fights or injuries (which is a good thing) there were quite a few “slips” and”falls” on the ice (which I am sure were felt the next morning!) The students had the opportunity to grow closer to God throughout the weekend as we talked about being a “Game Changer,” stepping out and making a difference for the Kingdom of God. We had a great time!

Our Wednesday Night Youth, called “4:12” continued to meet each Wednesday. We have some stellar students come out to 4:12. We play games, eat pizza and have a lesson at the end. “4:12” meets every Wednesday Night from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

Our pre-teen youth group, called Impact 4-5-6 serves any students ages 4th-6th grade and we meet the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 4-5:30 p.m. at the church. On Sunday Feb 4th we will be having a football party in honor of the upcoming Super Bowl. Pizza will be served!

Very excited to see what God has in story for our student ministry in 2018. God Bless, Dustin

Back from the holidays, a little post holiday-blues may have been in the

air, but our students and student leaders were ready to start off a

new year. Our youth groups continued to meet weekly

throughout January, and we had some good times, as always.
