Paramarine® Integrated Naval Architecture

• In Paramarine, definition data and analysis functions are modelled using objects which can be connected together to represent aspects of the design.

• Change propagates through the design with minimal user interaction

• Data items capture all relevant definition commands providing configuration control.

• Object relationships provide powerful tools for modelling the design problem allowing techniques such as Optimisation to be effectively incorporated into the design process

Paramarine Early Stage Design Modules

Paramarine features a unique ship/submarine design module which allows the designer to represent both requirements and solutions using conceptual information. Designs can be quickly reconfigured to explore new solutions with minimal design definition overhead.

The tools allow the user to:

• Define their own parametric rules

• Coarsely represent geometry and vessel characteristics

• Automatically evaluate design balance (i.e. Hydrostatics, Stability and Requirements)

• Concept Design can combined with Structural Definition to generate a parametric Product Model and used to produce early cost estimates of work and materials

• Generates a production database based on Concept, Systems and Structural design

• User defines Production Block subdivision strategy

• Then uses simple production rules governing plate, stiffener andservice line (cables, pipe) stock sizes

Design Space Exploration

• On behalf of the UK MOD, GRC has developed a unique capability to explore the design space for new requirements

and concepts

• GRC have considered 5000 design

variants on a single run under an existing contract but more possible!

• All designs assessed through Paramarine – invalid designs are discarded

automatically by Mode Frontier

• Successful designs are evolved further

against criteria

GRC is focussed on ensuring that the benefits of the integrated nature of Paramarine can be extended beyond the product:

GRC has created interfaces for:

• FREDYN for dynamic stability

• FORAN Production Design System from SENER ES

• ABAQUS/CAE for FEA from 3DS SIMULIA

• Altair HYPERMESH for FEA

• GAMBIT for CFD via parasolid files

Create whole ship FEA models in a day – not weeks – using pre-existing structural definition from PARAMARINE with all material properties, stiffener definitions and sections translated into ABAQUS or HYPERWORKS
