ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT• Plant faced issues with Wooden boxes used for packaging, storage

& transport of raw materials• Plant team came up with concept of Reusable Collapsible Steel

Containers• Has potential of saving close to 300 MT/year of wood and annual

savings of close to USD 53000 annually

Wood Waste generation reduced by 25% from 146 gms to 109 gms per kg of normalized production in 2013.

REPAIR & REFURBISHMENT SERVICES

6

OVER 120 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE ENERGY INDUSTRY

Inspect, Repair & Upgrade Service- Inspect and repair of all type of gears, bearings and accessories- Upgrade to extend life of gearbox with Gearing, Bearing & lubrication system

Enclosed Drives Manufacturing- 3-5 Year Warranty: Applications – Conveyor, Ball Mill, Roller Mill, Classifier & Atomizer, Fan, Pump, Compressor, Cooling Tower, Generator drives and accessories

• Timken is actively involved with Tata Steel Jamshedpur for repair & refurbishment of many gearboxes and bearings in the plant

• This has given Tata Steel savings of close to INR 1.8 Cr and allowed to use old gearboxes without scrapping them and adding to huge industrial waste

TIMKEN QF COUPLINGS• Elimination of grease by using QF

Couplings instead of gear/grid couplings

• Increased uptime by reduction in maintenance times results in increased efficiency

• Easier replacement of components reduces risk of health & safety hazards in the plant

• Has the potential to reduce annual consumption of close to 6000 Kgs of grease significantly reducing carbon footprint

CERTIFICATIONS• Timken manufacturing plants in India are certified

for Environment Management System – ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001

• Jamshedpur Plant expansion plan is aspiring for IGBC certification in September 2016

• System established – to reuse rainwater and improved ground water level from 25 ft. to 8 ft. level in 2015.

ATMOSPHERE CONDITIONS IN PLANT• The manufacturing plant maintains the

atmosphere and meets corporate standards.

• MOM levels are well within the Corporate limit PLE of 1Mg/M3, though the ACGIH calls for 5 Mg/M3 TLV-TWA.

• MOM – Mineral Oil Mist (as Total Particulates)• PLE – Permissible Limits of Exposure, prescribed by Factories Act, 1948 in

conjunction with Tamil Nadu Factories Rules, 1950• TLV-TWA – Threshold limit value-Time Weighted Average recommended by

American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists(ACGIH)

APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY: TIMKEN FUEL EFFICIENT BEARINGS• Transportation today is largely dependent on fossil fuels which is a non renewable

energy source.

• Fuel efficient bearings reduce the frictional torque per bearing in the automotive segment which translates to higher efficiency and lower cost of operation by reducing the overall fuel consumption due to frictional torque

APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY: ECOTURN SEALS• Railways are a primary mode of transportation and one of the major cause of

friction is between bearings & seals.

• Although Timken’s HDL seals provide low torque in Rail Bearings, ECOTURN seals further reduce the torque increasing the efficiency of the bearings.

Test 1: Standalone without being integrated into the bearing assembly

Test 2: Torque for a Class K – AP-2 Bearing Assembly with Eco Turn seal

and HDL Seal
