Madison police seize 31 lbs of marijuana during traffic stop

On 2/28/2016 at approximately 8:42 PM a Madison Police Department Narcotics Interdiction Officer initiated a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Cobalt for a motor vehicle violation on Interstate 55 northbound at mile marker 109 within the City of Madison. Subsequent to a roadside investigation during the traffic stop, the officers narcotics interdiction K9 alerted to an area of the vehicle where 16 bundles (31 lbs) of marijuana were located in a hidden compartment. The operator of the vehicle, identified as Ezequiel Gutierrez, Jr., age 26 of Eddingburg, TX, was taken into custody and charged with one count of Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute and one count of Improper Equipment on Vehicle. The vehicle and narcotics were seized and impounded.On 2/29/2016 at 4:30 PM Ezequiel Gutierrez, Jr. received an initial court appearance in Madison Municipal Court. During the hearing Mr. Gutierrezs bond was set at $250,000 for the count of Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute by Madison Municipal Court Judge Dale Danks. Gutierrez remains at the Madison County Jail.
