  • As you enter Lee Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings, youll notice the wooden cross in the Georgian Room will have a new element added each Sunday; one that helps tell the story of Jesus final days before the resurrection. (See Dans note at right.) As we do every year, youll also notice that the band will decrease in size by one member each week, and the vivid colors that we use in Genesis will slowly fade to black and white during Lent. We do this symbolically, to visually reiterate the simplicity of this season. Lent is about reflection, removing unnecessary distractions, and strengthening our relationship with Jesus. Worship well today, Church! (Also, remember that if you want to learn or listen to the music that well be doing on Sunday mornings, BEFORE that Sunday, you can visit fpco.org/music to subscribe to my weekly Genesis Music Spotify playlist.) - Wil Brown

  • During each Sunday in Lent we will be adding another significant piece to the cross reminding us of the events of the last week in Jesus life on earth. Last week was the money bag of Judas betrayal, the horrendous act of one of Jesus own disciples. This week we see the nails driven to inflict pain and eventual death in the victim. Jesus endured the greatest emotional and physical suffering out of love for His creation and all of us. The King of kings submitted to His Fathers will and took the humble form of a servant, even to the point of death. Jesus was the warrior King who fought the battle through submission. Our opening hymn is a summons to worship this King of kings, our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend. It was written by an Englishman who served in the royal court and understood the monarchy well. Throughout these days of Lent our hearts are directed again and again to the journey of Christ as His ministry on earth came to an end. - Dr. Dan Sharp
