GL 4 REAGAN LATCH TOOL
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Oceaneering are supplying a GL4 Release Tool, for wellhead intervention works. This system features a tool designed to interface with a ABB Vetco Gray Guideline Connector, GL4, (Regan Profile) complete with Jaw End Swivel Top.
This instruction manual contains information required to successfully operate and maintain the tool as supplied to the client. It assumes the system will be operated by trained and experienced ROV Technicians exercising good judgement concerning operating conditions and providing constant inspection and maintenance.
It is essential that the systems operators read these instructions and familiarise themselves with the equipment, prior to operation.
1.1 System Overview
The tool basically consists of two plates, one to interface with the reaction profile on the connector, and the second to interface with, and function the release mechanism. The tool is functioned by a matched pair of hydraulic cylinders.
Note : It is the operator’s primary responsibility to implement appropriate safety precautions at all times
The cylinders are supplied directly with the ROV system’s working fluid, at a pressure of 70 bar. This is the maximum pressure required to operate the GL4 connector.
It should be noted that incorrect connection of these lines and or excess pressure could result in damage to the tool and connector.
A flow divider is incorporated to ensure the cylinders work in tandem, on the operating stroke.

GL 4 REAGAN LATCH TOOL
3.0 OPERATIONS GUIDE
3.1 Hydraulic Connection and Function Test
Connect ¼” pressure hose from host ROV 3-way valve “A” to port 3 on flow divider Connect ¼” pressure hose from host ROV 3-way valve “B” to Tee piece on pipe-work. Function - ROV valve and observe tool cylinders extend, smoothly. Function - ROV valve in opposite direction and observe tool cylinders retract in a
continuous movement. This is the “operating stroke” for the GL4 release. Adjust ROV valve flow controllers to desired speed of operation.
Note: The tool should always be retracted when transiting to and from the worksite, to ensure it is best protected from damage.
The tool is now ready for operation
3.2 Operation of the tool
On reaching the worksite, the orientation of the GL connector shall be observed. The tension on the guideline should be released, but maintain the rigging near vertical.
The release tool shall be extended to the fully open position, and aligned along the axis of the pin in the jaw of the jaw end swivel.
The lower plate of the tool shall be located in the recess of the GL4 connector body, and pushed fully against the connector.
When operating the tool observe the plunger tube on the top plate enter the top of the connector and depress the collar.
Extend the tool and remove from the GL4 connector The GL4 and guideline shall be ready to recover.
