A Word from your Chapter Directors

John and Cindy Ruegge

Chapter Z Directors

Spring is here and we will be able to ride more as the weather is getting better each and eve-

ry day. We are looking forward to another great riding season and new adventures of riding

experiences. I am looking forward to seeing new faces on the rides this year as well as the old

faces. Chapter Z has done it again, for the second year in a row. We would like to congratu-

late Paul & Cheryl Engleman on becoming the new Missouri District Couple of the year along

with congratulating Jan Bacon on becoming the new Missouri District Individual of the year.

We are very proud of them and hope you will make plans to attend the Region E Rally in

Green Bay, Wisconsin, August 6th-8th to support them in the Region E selection process. Our

Maintenance Day is coming up on April 11th and it is considered a seminar by GWRRA stand-

ards. Maintenance Day is always a FUN day in which the guys (or girls) can work on their

bikes, and as always if you should need help, there’s always someone to show you how it

should be done.

Spring Is Here!!! We finally have some warmer weather in March and several of us have gotten at

least one good ride in!!! We started off the month with the Missouri District Spring Fling at Lake of the Ozarks with the theme of "What I want to be when I grow up". Chapter Z had 18 members attend and as usual a great time was had by all!! Chapter Z won 1st place in the Chapter Skit, 2nd place for our Chapter Pride Table and 3rd place in the Chapter Costume Contest. Congrat-ulations to our Les and Sara Gibson on a job well done!!!! On March 14th we had our first im-promptu ride for the year. We had 12 bikes and 17 people on the ride including our newest Chapter Z members Bruce and Gail Henrickson. Mike Sullivan was the winner of the 50/50. On March 17th we had our monthly dinner ride to Holland's Cafe and BBQ in High Ridge. We had 25 members attend and the food was great. Linda Ruegge was our winner in the 50/50!!! In fact, Cindy Stewart presented Holland's with a sponsor packet and they have become Chapter Z's newest sponsor!!! On March 21st we had 23 members attend Co-rider, Night Riding and Riding with New or Inexperienced Riders seminars presented by Mike Bayuk. We enjoyed lunch afterwards at Main Street Cafe and again Mike Sullivan was the winner of our 50/50 drawing. On March 28th we had 24 members present including members for Chapter O and W2 for Team Riding, Crash Scene and Trailering Seminars presented again by Mike Bayuk. Our 50/50 winner of $25.00 was Dwayne from Chapter O. We all enjoyed lunch at Scotties afterwards. Please watch your emails closely for impromptu rides!!!!

REDUCING THE RISK

IT’S RIDING TIME FOLKS!!!! BUT IS YOUR GOLDWING READY?

Wow, can you believe it! The last two (count them folks) two weekends have allowed a lot of motor-

cyclist to brush the dust off our cycles for some welcome riding time. I know all of us are ready to

get on our bikes and have the sun and wind in our faces. BUT, was our bikes ready? How many of

us did our T-CLOCKS. Do we remember how to conduct a T-CLOCK?

Many of the Missouri Chapters will be having an annual activity, Maintenance Day! This will be a

perfect time (if not done already) to perform the ritual of the T-CLOCK. I would be amiss if I did not

include in this month’s article what a T-CLOCK involves. So here it goes.

T- TIRES- Check your tires for tread depth, wear, dry rotting, bulges, embedded objects and tire pressures. The wheels are also included here. Check for cracks, dents and out of round or square. Spin the wheel and listen to bearings for growling. Look around seals for grease where it’s not sup-pose to be. C-CONTROLS- look for broken or bent levers. Make sure the bushings are lubricated. Check ca-bles for fraying and kinks. Make sure they are not interfering or pulling at the steering head, any suspension parts or near any sharp angles and in proper wire looms. Check hoses for cuts, cracks, leaks, bulges, chaffing or deterioration. Make sure the throttle moves freely, snaps closed after rev-ving. LIGHTS- Check the battery connections, electrolyte levels if appropriate, and make sure the battery is secure. Check the battery vent tube is not plugged or kinked. Check all lenses for cracks any un-secured part or missing lenses. Look for any excessive condensation in light housing indicating a bad gasket/seal. Check all reflectors. Look at the wiring for any frays, chaffing, pinching and make sure all ties in place. Check headlights for cracks, condensation and appropriate adjustment (aim). OIL- Check the engine oil, drive shafts, differential, brake fluid, clutch fluid, coolant per Honda Man-ual Instructions and replace if needed. Check for leaks at gaskets, housing seals, radiator hoses, calipers, brake and fuel lines. CHASSIS- This is a hard one but check for cracks on the frame at the gussets and accessory mounts. Look for any paint lifting/cracking/flaking suggesting stress at that particular place on the frame. Check steering head bearings for play. Check the swing arm bushings/bearings for play. Check front and rear shocks for adjustment and trav-el. Look for any and all fasteners loose or missing safety chrome. KICKSTAND AND SIDE STAND- Check cracks, or bends in the metal. Check to make sure the retention spring is in place and working properly. Check the mounting plate for wear (ok for some of us 3-wheelers don have to worry about this). Make sure the safety cut-out switch wiring is not crack/broken and working properly.

AS ALWAYS RIDE OFTEN…RIDE HARD…BUT MOST OF ALL RIDE SMART!!

Our Motto... “Share the Road!”

Our Mission... “To Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehicles.”

“I never saw the rider” is the most common thing said by automobile drivers after they've struck a motorcyclist. Make sure you can see the drivers of the cars around you. If you can see them through eye or mirror contact, chances are you’re in their line of sight. But never assume anything. Keep a safety buffer around you. Leave enough space to maneuver away from trouble. Avoid lingering in blind spots created by the A-pillars and C-pillars of cars. Bike colors that are white, yellow, and red are seen the best. If you have a black one like we do, add extra lights to make you more visible. Wear bright safety gear and use reflective items at night. If you’re being followed too closely by a car there's nothing wrong with a light tap of your brake to activate your brake lights. If they don't back off from you, do your best to maneuver to the next lane and find a safer place to ride. Motorcycles are set

up to run their headlights at all times. When you’re riding and not in danger of blinding oncoming traffic, use your high beams for an extra level of visibility. Some of our riders have modulator headlights that enable lights to pulse or flicker im-proving their visibility. Studies have shown that it’s easier to estimate the speed of a vehicle when it has two lights set apart. Installing running lights makes your bike more visible potentially saving you from unsafe left turns. Finally, there's a fine line between noise pollution and preservation, when all else fails make your presence known with a honk of your horn. The split second decision to press the horn can make a difference between becoming a victim and avoid-ing an accident.
