Zone Chairperson Message

I hope everyone have a wonderful Christmas and New Year holidays. New Year is not

about changing the DATES but DIRECTIONS; it’s not about changing the CALENDAR

but COMMITMENT; it’s not about changing the ACTION but ATTITUDE; it’s not about

changing the FRUIT but FAITH, FORCE and FOCUS! May you commit and create the

best New Year ever!

Thanks to all Presidents and Secretaries taking time out of their busy schedule, we,

again, achieved another 100% on-time submission of WMMR in December!

I am close to finishing my official visitation to all the Clubs in our Zone! In December, I

visited the Chinatown New Century and accompany DG Jimmy and visited the Central,

Legacy and Cathay. If your Club will be visited by our District Governor in the coming

days, please spend time to review the official visitation protocols in the August

Newsletter.

There were many meaningful services, fundraising and entertaining social events in our

Zone in December and I attended as many as my schedule allowed! All these events

were true proof that many Lions in my Zone had provided important services to the

community, and at the same time, remembered to have fun and fellowship.

The first one was the Children and Families Christmas Lunch organized by

Central Lions at the Karmore Boys and Girls Club on December 6th. 40 families

were provided with lunch, entertainment and gifts from Santa.

The Vancouver Pacific and Templeton NC Lions were on Timmy's Christmas

Telethon to present $1,000 donation to the Easter Seals House on December

7th.

The Vancouver Chinatown Annual Families Christmas Lunch was on December

13th. Children, including Lions Ben’s eleven grandchildren, were entertained by

the magician and received balloon figures plus gifts from Santa.

The Vancouver Templeton New Century Curling Fundraising event for mental

health was in the morning of December 14th. Participants were treated with a

quick lesson of rock sliding and ice-sweeping before some friendly competition

among the teams. Although the ice was slippery, the only injury was some

bruised knees.

At noon on the same day, December 14th, the Vancouver East Lions had their

annual Christmas lunch for the tenants at their Lion’s den of the Senior

Housing complex. Lion members and spouses prepared and served lunch to over

60 seniors.

The Vancouver Chinatown Lions held their annual Christmas Senior Lunch for

over 90 seniors at the Floata Seafood Restaurant on December 21st. Santa was

there again to hand out presents to all the seniors. Lion members provided

singing entertainment before heading out distributing the well prepared

Christmas Hampers for the needy families.

The last event of the year was the Vancouver Chinatown New Year Eve Ball at the Four

Seasons Hotel. Over 200 Lions and guests attended the annual event to celebrate the

achievement and friendship in 2014 and greeted the arrival of a bright and promising 2015.

The surprise special guest singer was our DG Jimmy! How often would you be professionally

entertained by a current DG! It was the best New Year Eve party in town.

Zone Christmas Hamper Project

I would like to thank you for all the encouragements, donations and supports to our first Zone

Christmas Hampers project. The project was started in late November when clothing, toy and food

donation were received in the Vancouver Chinatown Senior Manor. On December 10th, the members of

the Shaughnessy Lions Club delivered Christmas gift packages to 10 needy families through the

Vancouver & Lower Mainland Multicultural Family support Services Society. The members of the

Chinatown , Cathay and Legacy Lions spent several evenings in sorting, packing and purchasing of various

missing items from cash donated by members and other Lions clubs. The Christmas Hampers were

successfully delivered to thirteen surprised and grateful needy families consisted of

fifty – two individuals with ages range from 6 months to 61 years old on Sunday, September 21st. The

photos are the highlight of the event with the help of the fellow Lions from various Clubs. All the

delivery teams completed the door-to-door deliveries in two hours under the cool and sunny sky ! We

hoped that our small giving brought joy and happiness to those that were in needs during the holiday

season.

At the end of December, we had a year-to-date net increase of 3 members in our Zone with a total of

349. Year-to-date, there were 20 new members with 17 members withdrawal! As of today, the world

wide membership is 1,374,616.

I include information about the upcoming Lions Worldwide Week of Services in January. During the

week of January 10-16, if a Club hosts a service project that benefits youth, vision, hunger or the

environment; serves with your community to showcase the charitable work and the power of service;

and reports your services on the MyLCI Service Activity Report, the Club will earn a Centennial Banner

Patch. Further information is available in the LCI website.

As you can see in the upcoming event schedule, there are many important events happening in our Zone

and District in the next few months. Please note the date and event information and help each other to

promote them to the public and those who are interested. As a gentle reminder, please provide me or

the Bulletin Editor, Amy, the upcoming events that you are planning, so we can post it onto our

Newsletter. It can eliminate the conflict of the dates and we can start promoting to the public as early

as possible.

The next Zone Meeting is at the Vancouver Chinatown Manor (830 Campbell Avenue, Vancouver) at

10:00 AM on January 17th, 2015, Sunday. One of the major items on the agenda is the call for

nomination and election of next year’s Zone Chairperson. Please step forward and serve the best Zone

in our District. Call or email me if you have any question.

Dear GLT Area Leaders, GLT Multiple and Single District Coordinators, Zone Chairpersons and Club Presidents,

Kindly note the upcoming webinar, and forward to other interested Lions. Thank you!

LCI Leadership Development Webinar:

"Because a Cape Would Get in the Way: Become a Lions Superhero"

Do you want to become a Lions superhero? This presentation helps Lions activate their innate superhero traits

and put them to work as a Lion. Lions will consider their powers, understand their mission, use LCI tools, recruit

sidekicks, and delve into various aspects of "train, train, train."

The webinar ends with a challenge to "Live as a Lions Superhero" and share your results with other Lions.

Don't miss this engaging perspective on Lionism!

Dear District Governor,

It's hard to believe that five months have passed since you started your year as district governor. We set out to accomplish great things this year, and we're on our way to achieving them thanks to your dedication to the goals we

shared in Toronto.

We affirmed that strengthening our communities through service is our mission, and we're putting our commitment into action through the Centennial Service Challenge. Be sure to encourage your clubs to host a Worldwide Week of Service project during January 10-16, 2015 so Lions can showcase their clubs during this special international event.

We made membership growth a priority, and we're on track for another year of positive membership growth thanks to

the commitment you've made to strengthening clubs in your district.

We identified chartering new clubs as a key to strengthening our districts, and we're starting new clubs in new

communities around the world that are expanding our ability to serve. I am proud of what you've accomplished.

Nearly 70 percent of all district governors earned their Lions Pride Award Pin in Period One. And I know we can

achieve even more together this year.

Thank you for Strengthening the Pride, and have a wonderful holiday season with family and friends!

Together in service,

Joe Preston

Your International President
