Dear Readers,

t is just the middle of the year, and already most of us are ready to take a break as we all feel bored by staying at home
as global lockdown looms. Right now, when the whole world is expecting to open its tourism and MICE business, this Imonth's edition prepares only for you to make a plan when the time comes to explore and unwind. This edition's
Special Feature highlights some of the popular beaches throughout the world, which are now open. In this edition, we
are focusing on the wildlife of Arctic Region. Here tourism comes as a force for good; travelling in national parks involves
paying park fees supporting the maintenance, protection, and monitoring of these wilderness areas.
This global pandemic forces all humans to stay at home. Public spaces are temporarily abandoned. Smog stopped
chocking the cities and Nitrogen dioxide pollution has decreased throughout the world. Let's consider how wildlife is
responding. Our Destination Diary collects how the greens creep back, animals return to urban belt and quiet bird songs
fill the air.
Coronavirus-led lockdown has dealt a heavy blow to global tourism and MICE sector. Slovenia is the first European
country to open its borders and ease lockdown restrictions to attract more MICE travellers. In this issue, our Meetings
Point showcases Kranj. It is the home to many important convention centres and hotels, now coming up as one of the
safest destination to host any meeting.
Automation has become the driving force in the evolution of revenue management in the hospitality industry. Tech It
deals with revenue management and its development which helps hotels to foresee the demand and optimise the
product availability. Tattoo making is an art of self-expression. But there are some countries which are still considering it
as a taboo. You might get in trouble if you have a tattoo. It can complicate your travel plan. We have also listed some of
the countries where tattoos are still considered an offense.
ranj is the fourth largest city of Slovenia and is recognised as an industrial city. Over the years, Kranj
developed itself into an ideal destination for MICE and leisure tourism in the country after battling Ksome grave crisis like the plague pandemic and the annexation of Nazi Germany.
The Brdo Congress Centre is one of the most important meeting and conference destinations in Slovenia.
However, the coronavirus pandemic brought the meeting industry to a standstill. After numerous days of
struggle, several countries around the world have started looking for ways to ease travel restrictions. In the
wake of the virus outbreak, Slovenia became the first European country to open its borders and ease lockdown
restrictions after declaring an end of coronavirus pandemic inside the country.
Kranj stands as one of the places in the country with the least number of positive COVID-19 cases. It is also
home to some of the most important and unique meeting spaces and convention hotels in Slovenia. Therefore,
with the gradual ease of restrictions, decreasing graph of coronavirus cases and relevant experience in dealing
with a pandemic, Kranj can be considered as one of the safest upcoming destinations for hosting meetings and
organising business trips in a post-pandemic world.

ublic places all over the world have been temporarily abandoned. Roads are empty and nature is
making the most out of it. Animals are returning slowly to urban areas and bird songs can be heard Pwhich was earlier hid amid the roars of vehicles and machineries. As COVID-19 takes a devastating toll
on humanity, wildlife makes a gradual return to their lost worlds.
When humans abandon cities, ecological succession takes place and a more diverse wildlife is supported.
These systems become healthy and have diverse biodiversity due to lesser human impact. Cities can be hostile
places for urban wildlife due to fragmented habitat, pollution, road collisions and disturbances and
conflict among people. But under the coronavirus lockdown, these threats
are greatly reduced.

At the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, a pair of rockhopper penguins were seen wandering and interacting with

At the Narta Lagoon thousands of pink flamingos are seen soaring over the waters where they go to mate after
flying from Africa and southern Mediterranean.
In the streets of Santiago in Chile, cougars were found wandering and were released back to their natural

There is less disturbances in urban bird nesting sites and also a potential rise in existing wildlife 'corridors' or

According to Marie Quinney, a specialist with the World Economic Forum's Nature Action Agenda, in the last 50
years we have lost 60% of all wildlife and the number of new infectious disease has quadrupled in the last 60
years. The ecosystem is damaged, natural habitats are reduced and species are living in closer quarters which
increases the risk of viruses from animals finding new hosts in us!
It is expected that there will be innovation in business communication and change in human behavioure post
the crisis which may restructure the cities and give space to nature. On the other hand, global tourism industry
dependent on whole swaths of animal has entered a crisis mode and wildlife conservation is getting affected
due to lack of animal human interaction.

he world is becoming increasingly digital. Traveller's behaviour is rapidly changing and so hoteliers must
strategise to meet up to their expectations and remain in a profitable state.TRevenue Management is basically using data and analytics to anticipate the demand and optimise product
availability and choose the right pricing strategy in order to get the best possible financial results. Due to
several reasons the practice of outsourcing revenue management to third-party experts is becoming common
and is an essential part of the industry. Digital outsourcing of revenue management requires hiring
experienced professionals who can guarantee the right level of expertise and industry knowledge and improve
the chances of success.
28 TTW World
If hoteliers have data at their fingertips it will help them to price smartly and make the most out of their high-
demand days, selling the right room to the right customer at the right time and at the right price using the right
distribution channel. Digital outsourcing of revenue management is important due to the nature of the
industry since with hotels the rates also vary and different customers are willing to pay different prices for the
same product depending on their requirement, the time of their booking and the channel they use. To
generate maximum revenue and financial results, hotels need to take the right decision in pricing, distribution
and sale of rooms at the best possible price. At any given time the number of hotel rooms to allocate to guests is
just limited. So, when there is more demand the hotel can charge more and vice-versa.
Hotels outsource revenue management for optimising revenue and improving financial results and a revenue
management strategy is a necessity for modern hotel owners. Specialist knowledge, analytical skills,
experience and a working knowledge of the existing market are quintessential.
Outsourcing revenue management allows hotels to benefit from up-to-date knowledge, techniques, market
insights and technology so that they can stay ahead of competitors. Independent hotels can gain the maximum
financial results than hotels that hire revenue managers. Through latest technology, the most up-to-date
methods can be identified and analysed. With the help of this data which may have the past sales figures,
current bookings, information about local events and wider industry information hotels can set the right prices
along with a sharp focus on the right distribution channels.
29 TTW World
For smaller hotels and those operating on a tighter budget the main advantage of digital outsourcing of
revenue management is that the hotels need not invest in the related technology. Hotels will have an
advantage over the competitors as there will be more focus on sales and operations.
Revenue managers can build long-term value for the hotels by outsourcing the rather mechanical revenue
management tasks to technology. Modern systems are handling the time-consuming tasks and are looking
more holistically at the role of revenue management which will help hoteliers make progress both personally
and professionally.

lthough tattoos can be seen as positive means of self-expression in many areas of the world, there are
some countries that do not consider tattoo as a form of art. When you leave the country sporting Atattoos, it's important to know what to expect in your visiting country. While the general trend in
favour of tattoos is a global phenomenon, there are countries where tattoos are still considered taboo,
offensive or illegal. Have a look at six countries around the world whose attitudes toward tattoos might
complicate your future travel plans.
Travel Tendency
31 TTW World
United Arab Emirates: The tattoo laws in Dubai make tattooing illegal and visible tattoos usually have to
be covered in public. United Arab Emirates (UAE) Islamic dress code policy will not penalize foreigners for
getting tattooed. However, The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment considers it a form of self-
injury and thus it is forbidden unless performed by licensed physicians. Also, the tourists can be banned for life
if their tattoo is offensive under the UAE federal law.
Japan made tattooing illegal during the Meiji period in 1872, but currently Japan doesn't ban tattoos
or tattoo content. However, Japanese stores have forbidden tattoos on customers on a wider scale than any
other country that doesn't have tattoo laws. The public swimming pools, bath houses, gyms, hotels, resorts,
bars, restaurants, and some retail stores ban tattoos that are visible on customers. This self-imposed Japan
tattoo ban by most of the businesses is a rare but shocking surprise to tourists.
Iran has outlawed tattoos as well as spiky haircuts and the use of sun-beds on the grounds that they
imply “devil worship”. The conservative Iranians see these movements as a sign of westernization, which
violate the Islamic system's regulations. Iran, is governed by a strict interpretation of Sharia law, with agencies
expected to act on every individual case of violation in public life.

South Korea: South Korea has far more relaxation than North Korea, but when it comes to the contents of a
tattoo, they have the same rules: technically, they're illegal. The local laws dictate that one needs to be a
physician to apply a tattoo, although recent changes have made it possible for certified beauticians to apply
permanent make-up tattoos.
The tattoos that depict Buddhist imagery can be considered offensive in Sri Lanka,
so be sure not to display any while travelling. Any tattoos depicting elements of Buddhist culture or, more
grievously, the Buddha himself, could be seen as blasphemous and culturally insensitive – to the point of
condemnation. The offenses are more serious in Sri Lanka than Thailand, where they are not enforced as often.
Both of these countries are major tourist destinations, somewhat tempering the potential punishment that
might await an unsuspecting traveller.
