Journey through Grief into Hope
“We have loved our special someone in life. Let us not
abandon him, until we have conducted him by our prayers
into the house of the Lord.” St. Ambrose
St. Teresa’s parish will be hosting a four week Bereavement
Series on Tuesday evenings 7:30—9:00 p.m. beginning
Tuesday, June 5, 2012. No one should grieve alone. Being
with others who are experiencing a similar pain and loss can
be helpful. Participants in a Support Group are in mourning
and their ways of dealing with the process can be helpful and
encouraging. If you cannot attend the entire series, drop in
whenever you can.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
REGISTRATION
Registration for fall sessions
is now underway
All Catholic children attending public or
private schools should attend religious education
classes so that they may be well grounded in our
faith and be prepared for the sacraments.
Religious Education registration packets for
September 2012/2013 have been mailed to
families of current students. Additional packets
and information will be available in the rectory,
on the parish website (www.olpnp.com), and on
the tables in the rear of the church for families
with children new to the program.
Religious Education sessions, for children in
grades K through 6, are held on Wednesdays or
Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Sessions for
grades 7 & 8 are on Wednesday evenings from
7:15 to 8:30 p.m.
You may either mail or drop off your
completed forms to the Catechetical Office in the
rectory. By registering before June 15, it enables
us to plan class sizes and recruit the needed
number of catechists.
Registration for First Grade
Don’t delay registering your first grader!
Our First Reconciliation and Eucharist
preparation begins in grade one. Children
generally receive First Reconciliation in the
second grade and First Communion in the third
grade after they have experienced full
preparation during those three years.
Call, email, or visit the Catechetical Office
with any questions (908-464-8156 or
[email protected]). The Catechetical Office is
located in the Rectory and is open from 9:30
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. Other hours are
available by appointment.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED
BECOMING A CATECHIST?
One of the most rewarding things you can do
is share your faith with the youth of our parish as
a catechist in our Religious Education Program.
The requirements are simple: a love for God,
love for our Catholic faith, and a willingness to
spread the news of Jesus Christ.
Catechists are needed for the following grades:
Wednesdays Grades K, 3, and 6
Thursdays Grades K, 1, 4, 5, and 6
Call the Parish Catechetical Office at
(908)464-8156 for details. By sharing your
faith, you grow in faith!
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION ATTENTION: ALL 7
TH GRADERS!
All 7th
graders who are interested in
becoming Confirmation Candidates should
attend the required Confirmation Inquiry
Meeting on Monday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the
gym. You must be accompanied by at least one
parent or guardian.
At this meeting, we’ll pray and talk about the
importance and meaning of Confirmation,
readiness for becoming a Confirmation
Candidate, and what is expected of the young
person who decides to become a Confirmation
Candidate.
If you know of any Catholic 7th
-grade
parishioners (or older) who would like to prepare
for Confirmation but did not receive our
invitation letter, please ask them to call (908-
464-8156) or email ([email protected]) our
office and we would be happy to have materials
ready for them so they may join us that evening.

THE MOST CHERISHED OF AMERICAN FREEDOMS Past and Present
In 1634, a mix of Catholic and Protestant settlers arrived in
Southern Maryland from England aboard the Ark and the
Dove. They had come at the invitation of the Catholic Lord
Baltimore, who had been granted the land by the Protestant
King Charles I of England. While Catholics and Protestants
were killing each other in Europe, Lord Baltimore imagined
Maryland as a society where people of different faiths could
live together peacefully. This vision was soon codified in
Maryland’s 1649 Act Concerning Religion (also called the
“Toleration Act”), which was the first law in our nation’s
history to protect an individual’s right to freedom of
conscience.
Maryland’s early history teaches us that, like any freedom,
religious liberty requires constant vigilance and
protection, or it will disappear. Maryland’s experiment in
religious toleration ended within a few decades. The colony
was placed under royal control and the Church of England
became the established religion. Discriminatory laws,
including the loss of political rights, were enacted against
those who refused to conform. Catholic chapels were
closed and Catholics were restricted to practicing their faith
in their homes. The Catholic community lived under this
coercion until the American Revolution.
By the end of the 18th century our nation’s founders
embraced freedom of religion as an essential condition of a
free and democratic society. So when the Bill of Rights was
ratified, religious freedom had the distinction of being the
First Amendment. Religious liberty is indeed the first liberty.
This is our American heritage, our most cherished freedom.
If we are not free in our conscience and our practice of
religion, all other freedoms are fragile. If our obligations
and duties to God are impeded, or even worse, contradicted
by the government, then we can no longer claim to be a land
of the free.
Is our most cherished freedom truly under threat?
Among many current challenges, consider the recent
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate
requiring almost all private health plans to cover
contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs.
For the first time in our history, the federal government will
force religious institutions to facilitate drugs and procedures
contrary to our moral teaching, and purport to define which
religious institutions are “religious enough” to merit an
exemption. This is not a matter of whether contraception
may be prohibited by the government. It is not even a
matter of whether contraception may be supported by the
government. It is a matter of whether religious people
and institutions may be forced by the government to
provide coverage for contraception and sterilization,
even when it violates our religious beliefs.
USCCB Nationwide Bulletin Insert April-May 2012
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What can you do to ensure the protection of religious freedom?
To learn more about our first freedom, and to send your message to HHS and Congress telling them to stand up for
religious liberty and conscience rights, go to www.usccb.org/conscience today! Thank you for joining the effort to end
this unprecedented government coercion of conscience and intrusion in religious affairs.

What is the HHS Mandate?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued a mandate under Obamacare that forces all employer health plans to include free contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of moral or religious objections. Religious employers like Catholic universities and hospitals will be forced to provide services that directly contradict their teachings.
How does the HHS Mandate attack our religious freedoms?
The HHS Mandate provides a “religious exemption” so narrow that it excludes such religious ministries as educating the young, caring for the sick and feeding the hungry. Not only is the federal government requiring employers to violate their convictions, it is claiming the right to decide for religious institutions what constitutes their ministry.
What about the Supreme Court?
The Supreme Court is set to rule on Obamacare at the end of June. Whether the law is upheld or not, we must demand that our health care laws respect religious liberty.

Minutes from Parish Council meeting April 18, 2012
Council meeting attendees were: Father Bill, Pat Jackson, Karen Dreitlein, Paul Johnson,
Steve Madonna and Jerry Russo
Meeting was called to order by Jerry Russo at 7:30 PM
Opening Prayer-Paul Johnson
Open Discussion on the following subject:
Father Bill has received a list of potential candidates to replace Father Phil. Father Bill has
selected two prospective candidates and has scheduled interview with each of them.
Financial Status- revenues are still off pace with last year. The Easter collection this year was
off by about $7,000.
AAA campaign pledges are off by a considerable number. Our target for this year is $84,000.
We would encourage all to consider making a pledge. Please recognize that if we surpass our
goal, we do receive a percentage of the excess amount.
The Tricky Tray event was a great success and surpassed last year’s total revenue.
Our organist Linda Rosalsky has advised Fr. Bill of her intension to retire. A search committee
will be formed to find a replacement. We wish Linda well in her new adventure.
Father Bill is searching for a new parish cook.
Once again there is an initiative for the three parishes of Our Lady of Peace, Little flower and
St Teresa’s to share services (New Energies). A meeting with the Archbishop will be held to
discuss the subject. Suggested shared services are DRE, Finance etc.
Facility Issues:
Sidewalk replacements are complete and the playground area has new benches and
table.
Father Bill would like to replace the walks on the south side of the church and rectory
One of the air conditioners in the parish hall needs to be replaced.
Closing prayer Jerry Russo
Meeting was closed at 9: 00 P.M.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
This year OLP’s High School Youth Ministry has
been doing a lot! We have had many meetings where we
joined together to learn more about our faith, each other,
and ourselves. We are especially excited that 16 of us

all so excited to go to West Virginia! We are asking for
parish support as we prepare for this first Habitat for
Humanity mission trip! Next weekend will we be at the
doors of the church to collect donations. Whatever fi-

prayers as we prepare for the trip and while we are in
West Virginia.
