    STOCK MARKET REPORT

    The PSEi closed the month stronger at 5,246.41 points, up by 3.1% or 155.18points from the previous months close of 5,091.23 points, on account offavorable outcome of the European Union (EU) Summit which eased access toEUs emergency funds, deferred implementation of additional austeritymeasures, and the establishment of a supervisory body for Eurozone banks. Thebenchmark index, likewise, registered a year-to-date increase of 20% as of end-June.

    All six sector indices finished the month on a positive note led by the Servicessector which grew by 7.2% month-on-month. The Property, Mining & Oil,Financials, and Holding Firms sectors followed, increasing by 5.7%, 4.0%, 3.9%,and 0.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, the Industrial sector, posted a minimalgrowth of 0.01%. The broader All Shares index expanded by 2.2% or 75.69points to end the month at 3,452.84 points from 3,377.15 points a month ago.

    Total value turnover in June expanded by 7.1% to P172.52 billion from P161.1billion in the previous month. Average daily turnover for the month registered atP8.63 billion, 17.8% higher than the May average of P7.32 billion. Total valueturnover for the first six months of the year was posted at P947.73 billion,43.2% higher than the market value turnover for the same period last year.

    Foreign investors in June were net buyers in the amount of P36.60 billion, nearlyfive times higher than the previous months net foreign buying figure of P7. 61billion. Foreign investors were likewise net buyers at P71.12 billion during thefirst half of the year. Foreign trades cornered 42.4% of the total market tradesduring the six-month period.

    The consolidated net income of listed companies jumped by 24.0% to P134.66billion in the first quarter from P108.60 billion in the same period last year.Listed companies in the financial sector posted the highest net income growth at73.2%, followed by those in the industrial, property, and holding firms sectors at31.9%, 25.1%, and 22.7%, respectively. Meanwhile, listed companies in themining and oil and services sectors incurred net income declines of 25.7% and8.2%, respectively. For the period, revenues of listed companies aggregatedP1.02 trillion, 18.9% more than the P858.34 billion in the same quarter lastyear. (Please see monthly feature for detailed discussion)
