VARIABLE PERSISTENCE TRACES
GDS-3000 oscilloscopes have variable and adjustable trace persistence withsignal recurrence, just like an analogue oscilloscope.Each curve contains 3 items: amplitude, frequency and persistence.
SPLIT SCREEN FUNCTION
The split screen function means each channel can be set separately both for verticalsensitivity, and for timebase or triggering. The screen is divided into 4 areas(2 for dual traces), with each area showing the signal applied to one of the inputs.The large screen size (diagonal 20 cm) and high resolution 800x600 allows eventhe details to be viewed. It is the equivalent of 4 oscilloscopes in a single unit.
SYNCHROIn addition to traditional edge triggering functions, GDS3000s trigger on videosignal, pulse width, rise/fall times, Runt, pulse width, alternate tripping, delayed,after n events, Holdoff, etc.
AUTOSET AND AUTO-RANGE
The AUTOSET function automatically sets vertical sensitivity, timebase and synchro,for a given signal. The AUTO-RANGE function reconfigures this setting as soonas a change of signal amplitude or frequency appears. In this way the signal isalways shown perfectly on screen.
ZOOM: SCREEN SPLIT INTO 2 WINDOWS
In this mode the screen is divided into two: top window, main signal; bottom win-dow, zoom in on part of the signal. The user moves the zoom along the main si-gnal, with two modes: coarse and fine. The zoom width is set separately.
OPTION: ELECTRICAL NETWORK ANALYSIS SOFTWARE
Power Analysis software analyses the quality of electrical networks.It measures: VRMS, peak Vfactor, frequency, Irms, peak Ifactor, active, reactive,apparent power, cos φ, phase angle. Harmonics: Freq., Amplit., Amplit.rms, phase,THD-F, THD-R, RMSRipple measurement: residual V ripple, I rippleInrush current: first peak, second peakAnalysis of the harmonics determines the distortion and supplies data to correct thepower supply source and check its quality. This function complies with standard IEC61000-3-2. The software also measures the residual ripple and noise superimposedon direct current.NB: software updates can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
OPTION: SERIAL BUS ANALYSIS SOFTWARESerial bus data analysis (data trigger, control signal, pulse form linked to a bus) is aproblem for designers.The serial bus analysis software has full analysis tools for triggering and decodingcommonly used serial bus interfaces, including I2C, SPI and UART. Bus regulation doesnot have to be examined in detail; the user just sets GDS-3000 triggering to get thedata.
STANDARD INTERFACES
Two high speed USB 2.0 ports located in the two front and rear panels are used tofacilitate access to stored data. On the rear, one USB peripheral port is available for direct printing to a PictBridgecompatible printer. The RS-232 and LAN interfaces are supplied as standard for systemcommunication and ATE applications. One SVGA video output port enables transferof the DSO screen image to a projector or external monitor for remote surveillance orlarge screen viewing.
One GPIB USB adapter is available as an option for interface conversion

Safety connector
These probes are used for displaying and measuring of dangerous voltages with a Class Ioscilloscope, in accordance with the user safety standards. In fact, the image voltage appliedto the oscilloscope is no more than a few volts. On the other hand, by using two probes thevoltages applied to the oscilloscope inputs are isolated from one another. So, differential probescan measure high voltages (DP50) and/or voltages which relate to different potentials, withoutany risk of short-circuiting through the base of the oscilloscope.

These probes are used with an oscilloscope, a multimeter or a recording instrument. They deliver a secondary image voltage of the primary current (a few dozen millivolts),thereby allowing the user to take measurements in complete safety and without having to switch off the power to the circuit. The Hall sensor fitted in them can detect a DC com-ponent overlaid onto the AC component. When used with a true RMS multimeter, these probes will provide a true RMS current measurement.

ARBITRARY WAVE PRODUCING SOFTWARE A PC program for producing arbitrary waves is supplied. As well as drawing toolsit contains functions for producing waves using arithmetic operations. The mostcommonly used waveforms, including Rayleigh, Gaussian, normal noise, pseu-doternary, AMI bipolar, Manchester, differential Manchester, RS-232, and NRZ,sine wave with Gaussian noise, etc., are available in the library.
SWITCHABLE OUTPUT IMPEDANCEThe user can select the output impedance best suited to the load: 50 ohms or highimpedance. Help displayed at the screen top describes the functions of the variouskeys.

SAMPLING RATE 200 M Sa/s AND 16 BITSAMPLITUDE RESOLUTION The frequency of an arbitrary wave = sampling rate / number of points in thewaveform. So the higher the sampling rate, the higher the possible frequency ofan arbitrary wave. AFG3000 generators have horizontal resolution 5 ns. 16 bitsamplitude resolution produces a smooth wave, e.g. for 10 V amplitude, the voltagebetween two successive points is 0.15 mV.
DOWNLOADING FROM AN OSCILLOSCOPEThe AFG3000 generator can use a USB cable to load a wave captured onGDS2000 or GDS3000 oscilloscopes.
MODULATIONS, SWEEPING AND BURST FUNCTION The modulations AM, FM, FSK and PWM by internal or external signal areavailable on a specific terminal.• FSK is frequency modulation where digital information is transmitted by
frequency variation of the signal. BFSK (binary FSK) uses two frequencies torepresent 1 and 0 data in remote measurements.
• PWM is digital modulation used to adjust output power by controlling the pulsewidth of the command signal: e.g. motor speed.
• SWEEP is sawtooth frequency modulation, from f1 to f2, linear or logarithmic.Sweeping is triggered internally, externally or manually.
• BURST generates either N waves during a cycle (N cycle mode) or waves duringa time period (Gate mode). Burst recurrence and duration have to be defined.In N mode the number of waves per burst have to be defined. In the two modespolarity and phase can be controlled.
DOWNLOADING A CSV FILECSV files can be used by all spreadsheet programs, e.g. Excel. AFG3000 gene-rators are compatible with all CSV files produced in a spreadsheet, calculationsoftware, e.g. Octave, or by special software for producing arbitrary waves.
