Jeffrey Lui (British / Canadian / Chinese)MiM2010, Consultant, Accenture

After studying economics at university, I had a solid understanding of theories but no way to apply them in the real world.I wanted a Masters qualification thatwould give me the practical application of

business knowledge. The School’s focuson interactive learning, career preparation,

its renowned brand and internationalfaculty were key attractions.

Henriette Müller (German) MiM2012,Consultant, McKinsey & Company

New languages and cultures have always been part of my life, but the Masters inManagement has enabled me to meet andwork with people from all over the world. It exposed me to business in practice,

because the faculty is tightly linked to the global business community. Anybody can read a text book, but real world experience makes all the difference.

Aaron Ganz (American) MiM2013, SeniorFinancial Planning Analyst, Fox InternationalChannels

My career goal has always been to work in theentertainment industry. I applied to theMasters in Management to develop the

necessary business skills for a financial position in this highly competitive field. The programme has encouraged me to trust my instincts and to experiment with new ideas – particularly in the entrepreneurial course.

“Theprogrammeexposed meto businessin practice – itmakes all thedifference.”

“Theprogramme hasencouraged meto trust myinstincts andexperiment withnew ideas.”

    “The School’srenownedbrand andinternationalfacultywere keyattractions.”

“Without doubt, the diversity of my peer group has been thedefining experience. Everyone here represents a differentviewpoint and background, and I’ve been privileged to interactwith students on other, more senior programmes as well.”

Henry De Bennetot (French), BSc(Hons) Management, Warwick BusinessSchool (UK) MiM2013, Founder andCEO, SunEos

Alexis Garavel (French) EngineeringDiploma, Aerospace, ISAE (France)MiM2013, Co-founder and COO,SunEos

Company Biography  SunEos is a FinTech venture focusingon contactless solutions using NFCtechnology. The concept offerscontactless payment in the form of awristband that fuses concert ticket, cloakroom token and wallet, and allowsevent-goers to pay for food and drinkwithout the need for cash or cards.

How did the concept for SunEosemerge?Henry  Prior to joining the MiM I hadspent some time working in Hong Kongwhere I was introduced to the localOctopus pass. This simple travel passallows access to the underground andis used to pay for food and drink innumerous outlets. It’s a fast, simple andhandy form of contactless payment andthere was definitely scope for somethingsimilar in Europe. I needed a safety

net though, and Jurek Sikorski, LBS’sEntrepreneur in Residence, convincedme to apply for the Incubator.

Alexis When Henry outlined his ideait immediately struck home – I’d lostcredit cards and wallets at festivalsand concerts over the years, and thewristband concept is so simple. Givenmy engineering background, the fact itwas a revolutionary technical innovation, was also very exciting.

How has LBS helped in yourentrepreneurial journey?Henry Without the Incubator I don’tthink we’d have pursued the idea –there were just too many risks. Theexperience has been invaluable. We

have office space in central London, which would be prohibitively expensiveotherwise. The network is amazing, the alumni and wonderful mentors –including Jane Khedair, who draftedworkshops for us on how to incorporatea company, create a business plan, andso on.

Alexis It’s fantastic having facultymembers and guest speakers, includingBen Hallen, the entrepeneurshipspeaker, easily accessible. Wealso benefitted from the support ofMBA students who helped with ourpresentations.

What have you learned from starting your own business?

Alexis Starting your own company isprobably the most exciting challenge, but it’s not always fun, there’s alot of paperwork! One tip for newentrepreneurs – don’t be afraid. Youcan be overwhelmed by the amount oftasks ahead but just take that step andgo for it.Henry  Running your own businessoffers you freedom to choose what

to pursue and provides access tothe strategic decisions that drive abusiness, something I would haveprobably waited many years to do in thecorporate world. Plus you’re always onthe run, looking for new ideas, adaptingthe product and getting feedback. It’svery exhilarating!

What’s next for SunEos?Henry  We’ve been commissionedby LBS to pilot “SunEos Campus”, anew attendance monitoring system forstudents. It’s the beginning of a newproduct diversification, made entirelypossible by the MiM programmeoffice. LBS has been essential in thedevelopment of SunEos, and we’re

delighted and proud to give somethingback. Alexis We’re also aiming to bolsterour business activities throughout theuniversity market and the events sector.Building a company from scratch hasbeen hugely exciting – we don’t knowyet where we will go from here, but weknow LBS will definitely be part of itsfuture.

The alumni viewWhere does a London Business School Masters in Management lead? We’ll let our graduates tell you

    “TheMasters inManagementreallyevolved myaspirationsand goals.”

“In less thana year, I’vebeen able tolead a globalFMCG clientproject.”

Helen Ling (Chinese) Economics, TheLondon School of Economics andPolitical Science (UK), MiM2014

The Masters in Management really evolved

my aspirations and goals. With the assistance of the Career Centre I appliedfor a wide range of jobs, and during that

process I discovered more about myself and what I really wanted to do. I started out being interested in retail and came tounderstand that my skill set matches betterwith private banking. I now work at Pictet,

     a Swiss wealth management bank.

The main takeaway for me was the senseof community. I gained so much from thewonderful people I met. And with ongoing

programmes including the MBA mentor scheme, the School encourages us to build upon the strong community feeling. I know I’ll carry that with me forever, whatever my career holds.

Sandra Marichal (French), Business Administration, EPSCI – ESSEC BusinessSchool (France) MiM2010, Strategy Director- Business Development and Marketing,Futurebrand.

One of the great things about this programme was how it helped me become responsible for my owndevelopment. It combines highly practical

aspects with a curriculum aimed at improving hard and soft skills in a

     progressive and natural way.

I have learned the tools to perform my jobwith confidence, and London BusinessSchool gave me the credibility to betaken seriously. After less than a year

at Futurebrand, I am leading my own global FMCG client projects and have been promoted to consultant level. It has boosted my professional reputation and has opened up a world of opportunities.

“Building a company from scratch has beenhugely exciting – we don’t know yet wherewe will go from here, but we know LBS willdefinitely be part of its future.”

“My experience onthis programmewas unparalleled interms of expandingmy skill set andcontact list.”

Natasha Jain (Indian)Dip. Economics, Econometrics,Corporate Finance and Management,University of London, ExternalProgramme (India) MiM2010,

    Manager, KPMG

I chose this programme because I knew it would expand my exposure to global business. Being part of such an international network at the age of 22 appealed greatly. When interviewingfor my current job, I reached out to theSchool’s community to help me preparefor the modelling-based first-round

interview, and was lucky enough to be coached through the process by a student who had recently been recruited into the same company.

With the job market so competitive, the support from the Career Centrewas invaluable. I improved my CV

writing and networking technique by attending on-campus recruiter events, and took sessions in technical areas I needed to improve in, such as Excel. These skills serve me daily in my

current role and I have been promotedtwice in two years. The L eadershipclass taught me a lot about teamwork,

really preparing me for my workenvironment.

My experience on this programme wasunparalleled in terms of expanding my

skill set and contact list. I know that alumni will be a benefit that I tap intofor the rest of my career, and I still usethe School’s intranet service to askfor advice or find out about events inLondon. My expectations were highto start with given that I was going toLondon Business School, and I reapthe benefits every day.
