Bato is one of the eleven ( 11 ) municipalities ofthe island province of Catanduanes. It is a fifthclass municipality, located east of Virac – thecapital town of the province. It is the smallestmunicipality comprising 3.23 % of the total landarea of Catanduanes. Bato is composed of 27barangays. It has a total population of 18,937 in4,062 households, as per September 2014 CBMSsurvey .

The project is funded through the DSWDamounting to P850,000.00. LGU Bato is theimplementing agency. All day care centersincluding the Child Minding Centers were providedwith big story books and different toys comprisingof musical instruments, puzzles, blocks, andgardening toys.

The project also include IT instructional materials such as laptop, LCDprojector and speakers. These equipment are important tools duringtrainings of day care workers for capability building.

Ms. Sharina San Ramon,Federated Day Care Worker ofBato and also the Day CareWorker of Sunshine Day CareCenter at Salvacion St., Brgy.Ilawod Poblacion said that thechildren appreciate big bookswith big drawings. They caneasily relate to the stories andare eager to listen rather thanthe usual small books. LGUfund is not enough to providethose materials.

Natania Karen Romero, 3 years old, and the rest of the DayCare children loved the puzzle games. Natania said puzzlegame is new to her, they are of different colors.

One of the parents ofthe pupil, Mrs.Jocelyn C. Timajoshared that beforethey used old toys orwould ask used toysfrom donors to giveto day care children.Now because of thetoys provided by theproject, the children can easily identify shapes and colors.

At Marinawa DayCare Center, childrenplay toys before thestart of classes whilewaiting for otherchildren to come.Ms. JosephineTurtoga, the DayCare Worker, sharedthat, before, they don’t have toys for children.Sometimes, parents would bring toys, but after classesthey would bring it back home.

Now, at least the toys and books are owned by theschool and every year children can use them. Theyare very important in developing intellectual andcognitive skills of children.

To achieve sustainability of quality services to day care children,consultation dialogue w/ Day Care Parents Committee and CapacityBuilding for Child Development Workers are conducted regularly.

All departments of the municipal governmentare very supportive to the BuB projects. They alwaysassure the on-time submission of required documentsin every project. Civil Society Organizations are likewiseactive in attending meetings conducted by the LPRATand other local special bodies. They also help inmonitoring projects.

LGU Bato is not just good in implementation ofprojects, it also passed the GOLD SEAL OF GOOD LOCALGOVERNANCE (SGLG).

In active implementation of various programsdirected towards the development and welfare ofchildren, Bato was also awarded as a CHILD-FRIENDLYMUNICIPALITY in the year 2014.
