    Global Enterprises

Operations and employees are distributed globally...

Customers and suppliers are distributed globally...

Information and know ledge is generated globally...

Yet content is often stored in a centralized location.

    The result?SLOWperformance for remote users.

    Poor Performance Across the Enterprise

    Loss of productivity

User who spend more timewaiting for content transfers, spend less time on activitiesthat add value to yourbusiness.

    Security/compliance risks

Users who stop using the system willlook for other places to store content. While this may give them quickeraccess to certain content, it leaves

potentially sensitive corporateinformation open to security threats.

    Low adoption of software

Users who grow weary of waiting forcontent transfers may opt to stop usingthe system altogether.

    Information Silos

Users who employ alternativemeans of storing contentcannot make informationavailable for others to use.

    Distributed Read Pulling Content

BOCS is a local cache server synchronized witha central repository

The first request for content will force a cachepull from the central repository.

Subsequent requests for the same content will

retrieve from BOCS for ALL remote users.

    BOCS Administration

    Monitoring BOCS

BOCS can now be monitored via Resource Agents usingthe new unified JMX framework.

To add a BOCS Resource Agent, simply provide theresource URL and a name in Documentum Administrator.

    Installing and configuring BOCS

BOCS are lightweight Java applications that can bedeployed and un-deployed remotely. There is no need foron-site IT.

BOCS configuration is done through Documentum

    Administrator.

What products are supported with BOCS?

In general, BOCS is onlysupported with WDK-based

applications and applicationsbuilt using the new DocumentumFoundation Services (DFS) WDK/UCF

    Webtop TaskSpace

    Digital Asset Manager

    File Share Services

So is there still a need for RCS?

So, is there still a need for RCS?

In most cases, BOCS is the better choice, but there is not necessarily areason to un-deploy existing RCS.

    Advantages of BOCS

    Advantages of BOCS

BOCS is easy to deploy and un-deploy. No on-site IT staff is needed at

    remote locations.

BOCS requires very little administration and maintenance.

BOCS supports heterogeneous environments. Content transfers use

    http protocol and are O/S-independent.

By moving content closer to remote users, performance is greatlyimproved.

BOCS supports the HTTPS protocol for enhanced security.

    High Performance Across the Enterprise

    Higher productivity

Users spend more time onvalue-added activities ratherthan waiting for content totransfer.

    Greater security/compliance

Content that isnt managed cant besecured. Content stored in aDocumentum repository rather than ona file store can take full advantage of

    the rich Documentum security features.

    High adoption of software

Users are more likely to use the systemto manage content, providing all thebenefits of managed content across theorganization.

    Access to information

Content stored in aDocumentum repositoryrather than in a siloed locationcan be indexed for search andlocated by others for use.

Collaboration is made easierand productivity is increased.
