It is with great pleas-ure I can announce the opening of another Pierce Dis-tribution Center, this time for

Mahindra USA, Inc (MUSA). Mahindra USA and Pierce Distri-bution Services Company have entered into an agreement for Pierce to begin operational re-sponsibility for Mahindra’s Hous-ton, TX distribution facility. This new venture marks the initial business partnership between these two organizations. MUSA is a global manufacturing leader of tractors and attach-ments and is a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. Their portfolio includes automo-biles, buses, aerospace, marine and military products. MUSA is committed to providing the high-est level of service to their cus-tomers for aftermarket parts support. Pierce will rely on its many years of experience han-dling service parts for customers in the agricultural industry as well as related fields to bring “best in class” distribution princi-ples to this new endeavor. Beginning October 1ST 2013, we will begin to manage the entire aftermarket parts warehouse for North and South America within the Mahindra assembly facility. Pierce will utilize all of their re-sources to ensure this transition is seamless and to provide im-mediate improvements to their customer base. Mahindra is committed to providing a “best in class” parts warehouse with private branding as their main objective. Pierce is proud to be a part of this mutually beneficial partnership that will provide the “best in class” service levels that

support of Kevin Hogan, our President / CEO. Lots of peo-ple play a role in the success stories of Pierce Distribution Services. Like a basketball or football team, some carry the ball more than others, but the game can't be won without all others participating. In keeping with Pierce’s history of promoting from within, Bran-don Dunn, a supervisor from Columbia's Metso account has been named the General Man-ager of the Mahindra operation in Houston, TX. Brandon ac-cepted this new role which be-gins in September. It is impor-tant that all Pierce associates know that even though these opportunities don’t come up very often, when they do, we do look from within the com-pany first. Continuous im-provement is not only our com-pany mantra at the plant level; it is at the associate level as well. Brandon has shown that he can handle additional re-sponsibility and new chal-lenges. Congratulations to Brandon Dunn in his new position, and thank you to all Pierce associ-ates involved in making this new partnership happen.

Pierce is well-known for in the distribution marketplace. It takes a team of Pierce associ-ates to secure a new partnership with another company. Andy Ol-tremari, (Executive Business Manager) provided us the oppor-tunity to meet with the Mahindra executive staff. It was very clear to us from the beginning that Mahindra was serious about get-ting some professionals in there to resolve their service parts is-sues. Andy and I met with the Mahindra staff to outline their spe-cific needs, timeline, and pre-sented what solutions we could provide them. They toured John Bednar’s Manitou warehouse and could see their future before their eyes. From there, they toured Larry’s “multi-client” warehouse and could clearly see that organi-zation, cleanliness, and proper management are all consistent within all Pierce operations. Both local plants are very strong selling points for any potential client we tour through these locations. I’d like to thank all the associates at both these locations for making our jobs a little easier by being professional and always “tour ready”. As stated above, it takes several associates to make these things happen. John Bednar, John Mullin, and Tony Chiodini all play a huge role in making these ac-counts work. Jason Smith and his IT staff are vital in any operational process and of course none of this is even possible without the

Congratulations,Tony!

Paying into insurance companies to protect us in case of an acci-dent is never fun, but it is a nec-essary evil. Companies recog-nize the value in finding some-one who represents their best needs. When it comes to work-man's comp insurance and gen-eral liability insurance, Pierce has chosen to belong to an in-surance captive known as the Millennium Insurance Co, Ltd. Millennium is made up of 33 dif-ferent companies nationwide who insure themselves for work-man's comp, general liability and auto claims, and Artex Risk So-lutions, Inc. is the third party ad-ministrator. The Millennium Board of Direc-tors is made of up four commit-tees: Risk Control, Finance, Un-derwriting, and Travel, as well as a Secretary, Vice President, and a President. Pierce Distribution joined Millen-nium in 2006, represented by our own Tony Chiodini, the Chief Financial Officer at Pierce Distri-bution. By 2008, Tony became involved with the Board of Direc-tors as the Risk Control Chair-person and held that position

Page 3

until 2010. From 2010 until 2011, he held the Secretary position. From 2011 until now, he has held the Vice President position. Currently, some of his duties as VP include chairing the meetings and holding executive committee conference calls. He's also the main point of contact be-tween Artex and the members of the captive. In November 2013, however, he be-comes the President of Millennium, a position he will hold until 2015. Among many other duties, the Presi-dent is in charge of negotiating the contract with Artex, which the Board then votes on. Millennium meets twice a year in different locations. During their meetings, they form policies, brain-storm about workplace safety trends, vote on insurance and third party administrator renewals and approve financials, audits, and taxes. Each company gets one vote. They also approve the distribution of unused premium funds, if any. Funds paid into a regular insurance company, if they aren't used, are lost. With Mil-lennium, if the premiums we pay in aren't paid out by either our company or the cooperative, the funds are div-vied up and given back to the com-panies. As part of Millennium, we are held to strict safety parameters and are au-dited annually. The latest score we received was 173 points out of 188, or 92%. In the "olden" days, safety on the job was often rewarded with a t shirt. Times have changed and we are now involved in the Safety Jackpot program, as such a program is a re-quirement of the Millennium Insur-ance Company Ltd. Congratulations to Tony on his up-coming term of President of Millen-nium this November, as well as all of his hard work on behalf of Pierce Distribution in this endeavor and all others.

Last month, Leticia Medrano, Procurement Lead, com-pleted her naturalization process to become a US citizen. Being born a US citizen I take much for

granted. For one thing, I didn’t know they called it being naturalized. It must be a lawyers’ term. To become a citi-zen, among other things, you have to take an oral test. The applicants are given 100 questions from which 10 are asked. If you get eight of the questions correct, you get to move to the next step. While Leti was studying for the test, I reviewed the questions and I can say without a doubt, I would fail. It is like taking the Constitution test again. At this point she knows way more than I do about how the government works. The ceremony took place at West Aurora High School which is a far west suburb of Chicago. The auditorium was packed. During the proceedings they announced that there were 338 partici-pants from 61 countries. They ranged in age from their 20’s to their 70’s. This is an official ceremony in a US court but it is really a celebration. As their names and countries were called off and they

received their certificates, you saw a full range of reactions, from the very stoic to jumping up and down screaming and tears of joy. People in the audience were crowding in to get photos of their family mem-bers receiving the certificates. It was truly an emotional event and I suggest to any of you, if you get the chance to attend such a cere-mony you should grab it. Taking in the event, it made me think of my ancestors who came to the US in the 1860’s from Ireland. How bad

Beth Futrell must it have been there for them to leave everything and move to a country that was in the middle of a civil war? Did they face the same bias as the people becoming citizens today? One thing I am sure of, Leti is a great addition to the US. She has a great work ethic and is devoted to her faith and family. Please join me in congratu-lating and welcoming her as a US citi-zen.

From L-R Marilee (Leti’s daughter), Laura (Leti’s sister), Leti, Betty (Leti’s sis-ter), Lidia (Leti’s aunt). Again, congratulations, Leti. We’re glad you are a part of our TEAM!

Greetings, I am Willie Wil-liams, Inven-tory/Receiving Supervisor here at Plant 4. I started working at Pierce Febru-ary 2012 as a member on the

Receiving Team. With great training and strong ambition, I was able to get promoted to Receiving Lead. From there I saw an opportunity to take ad-vantage of a situation by taking charge of several projects that would require a lot of re-warehousing over several months. The projects required a huge volume of moving product that would be difficult to do during our normal operating hours. So, it was decided that we’d start a 3rd shift to be able to ac-complish these goals in which I was later promoted to Supervisor. In the act of maximizing our total warehouse space, our third shift crew has been on several projects to make these goals a reality. There have been a lot of obstacles that stood in the way of getting our warehouse to how we want it, and thanks to this committed crew, we are more than satisfied about where we are now. In April, we started on 3rd shift, but the prepping for these projects started in February, where crew members like Carlton Seabrook constantly worked to get areas cleared out. This worker showed great initiative to clear sufficient room for us to install our carousel. Loading the carousel was a very impor-tant project, in which Samone Dozier played a key role in transferring parts into the carousel. While doing so, she audited our inventory to ensure our

Page 8

Columbia Writes ... quality and quantity met our standards. In addition to loading the carousel, we have installed new racks where we have minimized the space be-tween each rack to maximize the amount of pal-lets to put in each column. With the help of Kyle Huepenbecke, who took this project head on, we have been very successful and opened up 972 locations. Kyle has really taken charge in every project that he has been involved in, either doing it by himself or working as a Team. In the midst of change and relocation of a big volume of parts, we needed to consolidate a lot of product to maximize our location vacancy. Regal Gadson has been fundamental in this step to us, maintaining as much vacancy as possible. A part from re-warehousing, Regal has been doing a good job in putting away the new parts of incoming receipts. New to the crew, we have Christopher Jones who has shown great potential, and fits in good with the crew. He has been instrumental with finding parts that have been lost during this transition. The projects that have been completed and the ones that are in progress have been successful thus far because of the integrity this crew has in their work. Trevor McCloud deserves a special recognition for being involved in these projects while also picking orders. He has been involved with each step of our transitions and one of the biggest involvements has been loading the carou-sel. He came up with a great system to load the parts in the carousel and lead the way to com-pletely loading it up. With all of the work this crew has accomplished, they have paved the way for new and upcoming projects.

Tabitha Chandler Celebrates With Cake The Plant 7 Service Parts department celebrated the 21st Birthday of their supervisor, Tabitha Chandler. Tab was made to feel "extra spe-cial" with two birthday cakes. Plant 7 selected the First Responders for each of our three shifts. This unique group was selected based on their positive attitudes, willingness to help others, good attendance, leadership skills and the ability to react responsibly in an emergency situation. On August 8, 2013, the group was blessed to have a gifted and knowledgeable trainer, Richard Griggs, of the Coving-ton Fire Department. Mr. Griggs did an excellent job of explaining procedures and policies to the energetic group. "Hands on" training is always the best - you can talk CPR, but actually performing the procedures your-self puts everything in the right perspective. Training the group on the use of the AED is an extremely critical part of being prepared for emergency situations - and you might ask, what is an AED? An Automated Exter-nal Defibrillator is a portable electronic device that auto-matically diagnoses the potentially life threatening car-diac arrhythmias of the heart. And "yes", we have a

portable AED located in the plant on the wall near the of-fice door. And we hope we never have to use this device, but we are trained and prepared to respond should the need arise. Management is requiring a "mock" demonstra-tion by the First Responders to determine our prepared-ness (or lack of readiness with the opportunity to enhance or make necessary changes). We will call a "Code Blue" - announcement over the public address system and/or ra-dio of where (what department area) the emergency has occurred. Officials will evaluate the First Responder's ac-tions, looking for adjustments or procedures to enhance. Safety Director, Tracy Schmitt, has made individual pic-tures of all Team Members to display in an effort to make all associates aware of who has been trained as First Re-sponders on each shift.

Another month has flown by! Plant 8 has been busy this month. One of our office associates, Kate Montgom-ery, had her little boy. His name is Jaxon Edward. He was born on July 22 and weighed 9 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 22 inches long. Congratulations, Kate and Joel! Congratulations to the Mud

Volleyball Team. They didn’t win the championship but I heard they played well and had a great time getting all muddy! Thank you Kevin, for sponsoring this event! My 10 year old Granddaughter played on a Volley-ball Team this summer. It was fun watching this team play. She played at the YMCA and they were having trouble finding a person to coach the team, so my son volunteered. He really didn’t know much about volleyball but they ended up being the cham-pions of the league. My granddaughter loves play-ing volleyball. I told her keep practicing every chance she gets because it would be nice to be able to go to college on a volleyball scholarship. She wants to be either a marine biologist or a zo-ologist. She said maybe a veterinarian. We shall see; she still has plenty of time to change her mind!! He has been pulling his weight and then some to get our HOTS binned as well as keeping our floor clean and empty as much as possible, nightly. You’re a superstar in my book, Sam. Keep up the good work, buddy. It is also school registration time again. I’m so glad school is back in session. It was hard for me to keep food in the house this summer. My fast growing teenage son and his friends were beginning to eat us out of house and home. I’m so glad we have Kevin Ho-gan on our side supporting and sponsoring our associates that want to help others who are less fortunate in their life’s jour-ney. Kevin recently helped us sponsor “Mud Volleyball for Epi-lepsy”. Our Team was called the “Pierce Mud Slingers”. Not only did they kick butt, they had a blast getting dirty while having fun. Thanks for your support, Kevin!

Celebrating Service Anniversaries

Hello! I would like to give a BIG Thank you to Kevin Hogan for sponsoring our Mud Vol-leyball tour-nament for 2013.This is a charity fundraiser for epilepsy. All proceeds are donated to the families and victims who have or live with epi-

lepsy. A few associates who work at Plant 8 put together a team for this. Listed are the names of everyone who played in the picture above. From top row to bottom row left to right - Top row: Jimmy Moore, Steve Eisman, David Zimmer-man, Tony James, Rick Davila, Ryan Eisman, Anthony Gallina and Jeremy Lin-den. Bottom Row: Tina Blunt, Brittany Thompson, Andrea Linden and Rebecca Hickey. We did really well as most of us have not played volleyball in a while and have never played together as a team. We won our first four games, but then lost the last four games. We were two games away from winning our court. But hey, we all had a blast and who can say they get to get all muddy for a good cause? We are all looking forward to doing this again next year! “GO PIERCE MUDSLINGERS” Thanks again, Kevin!! Brittany Thompson

Hi! My name is Chris Adcock. I started working for Pierce in Sep-tember of last year. I like the peo-ple I work with everyday. I am part of the re-warehousing crew. Our job is to put like items with like items and re-organize parts to make a more efficient distribution center.

When I am not working, I like to fish but I haven’t had any time to do that this year. I also like to play darts. In the fall we play on Mondays and in the summer I play on Wednesdays with my girlfriend. We are not that good but still have fun!!
