70 years ago today nearly 400,000 men from Britain, Canada, the USA and from around the world began the fight to defeat Nazi Germany

By 8:44 on the morning of 6th June 1944 there has already been fierce fighting for over 2 hours. Thousands are dead or wounded but the battle for Europe has only just started.
