The text to “Great is Thy Faithfulness” was written in 1923 by Thomas Obadiah Chisolm. Chisolm was born in Kentucky in 1866
and was a Schoolteacher at age 16, a Newspaper Editor at 22, became a Christian at 28, a Methodist Minister for a short time and
later an Insurance Agent. He died in 1960.He also wrote “Living for Jesus”
The music was composed by William Runyan in 1923. The two men worked together to create this classic hymn.
The text is based on Lamentations 3:22–23[It is of] the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his
compassions fail not.
[They are] new every morning: great [is] thy faithfulness.
Hymn Focus
CBC’s Articles of Faith
We believe that the scriptures teach that Repentanceand Faith are sacred duties, and also inseparable graces,wrought in our souls by the regenerating Spirit of God; whereby, being deeply convinced of our guilt, danger,
and helplessness, and of the way of salvation by Christ, we turn to God with unfeigned contrition,confession, and supplication for mercy;
at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Prophet, Priest, and King, and relying
on Him alone as the only and all-sufficient Savior.
