Feast of Tabernacles 2015

Sunday Evening, September 27 thru

Monday Evening, October 5

Page 17: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Jesus may have been conceived by the Holy Spirit on December 25th but there is strong evidence to suggest that He was born during the Feast of Tabernacles (shepherds abiding in the fields and no room for Him in the inn).

Page 18: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The Feast of Tabernacles celebrates God’s provision during the 40 years in transient housing in the wilderness but it also celebrates the coming thousand year reign of Christ on Earth.

Ezekiel 37:26-28 NKJV26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore.

27 My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 28 The nations also will know that I, the LORD, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”’”

Revelation 21:2-4 NKJV2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Page 22: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

Matthew 24:37-39 NKJV37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,

Page 27: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Matthew 24:37-39 NKJV

Luke 17:26-30 NKJV26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

Page 29: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Genesis 6:8-18 NKJV8 But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the LORD.

Noah Pleases God9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just (righteous) man, perfect (blameless) in his generations. Noah walked with God.

People were "eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage" (Matthew 24:38), and life was going on as usual.

Page 54: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

When friends met at wedding feasts they laughed about Noah and his family ("Imagine building that big boat on dry land!") and talked about Enoch, the man who suddenly disappeared ("Strangest thing I ever heard!") and discussedMethuselah, the world's oldest man ("He'll die one of these days, mark my word!").

Page 55: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Methuselah was Noah's grandfather, and Noah knew that when he died, nothing stood in the way of God's judgment falling on a wicked world.

The name, Methuselah, means “his death shall bring judgment” and traditions says he died seven days before the beginning of the Great Flood.

What kind of a person was Noah?

He was a believing man who walked with God & was the tenth and last of the pre-flood Patriarchs.

Page 63: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

http://220lily.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/mcconnellnoahll.jpg

Noah wasn't a minor character in the story of redemption; he's mentioned fifty timesin nine different books of the Bible.

Page 64: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

One Man's Faith, One Man's Family

Page 65: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

For over a century, Noah had been warning people about the coming judgment, but only his own family had believed him and trusted the Lord.

Then Methuselah died and things began to happen.

Page 66: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

God was merciful and waited for his people to turn to Him again; Methuselah's name is a WARNING for what was to come if people didn't turn from their sins.

Page 67: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

That's why God allowed Methuselah to live so long, because of God’s mercy.

When God took his life away - that is when the flood began.

Page 68: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah was a "preacher of righteousness" (2 Peter 2:5) during the building of the ark, yet only "eight souls were saved" (1 Peter 3:20) so apparently, the people of his day didn’t want to hear it (just like today).

Page 69: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

God had promised that "the seed of

the woman," Eve (Genesis 3:15)

would one day destroy Satan, and

ever since then, Satan, in his

hatred for God and His image in

man, had schemed to thwart God's plan (Genesis 4:7, 6:2).

Page 70: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Furthermore, man thought of "only

evil continually" (Genesis 6:5) and

"the earth was filled with violence

through them" (Genesis 6:13).

If left unchecked, there soon would be no survivor of Eve remaining.

Page 71: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Certainly the extensive violence

took the lives of many.

Animals became violent and

bloodthirsty and wars must have

been rampant as man's sinful nature had full sway.

Page 72: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Would we not be correct in

assuming that the violence was

directed toward believers most of

all?

• Perhaps Noah had many converts

over the years, and the only ones left were the eight mentioned.

Page 73: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

This may have been what

happened to Methuselah.

Perhaps he was the last martyr,

and when he was killed, God's

patience was over.

Page 74: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

In order to preserve mankind, and

in particular Eve's lineage through

whom the Redeemer would one

day come, God's justice was finally unleashed.• Dr. John D. Morris is the President of the Institute for Creation

Research.

The Flood was not only an episode of judgment, it was also a time of God's grace and salvation.

Page 76: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah and his family, and two representatives of each "kind" of land-dwelling, air-breathing animal (seven of each "clean" kind), were protectedand preserved on board Noah's Ark.

Page 77: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Outside of the ark, "all in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died" (Genesis 7:22).

Page 78: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Genesis 6:8 NKJV8 But Noah found favor (grace) in the eyes of the Lord.

Page 79: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah was a righteous man (v. 9; 7:1).

This is the first time the word "righteous" is used in the Bible, but Noah's righteousness is also mentioned in other places (Ezekiel 14:14, 20; Hebrews 11:7; 2 Peter 2:5).

Page 80: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah's righteousness didn't come from his good works; his good works came because of his righteousness.

Like Abraham, his righteousness was God's gift in response to his personal faith.

Page 81: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Both Abraham and Noah believedGod's Word "and it was counted to them for righteousness" (Genesis 15:6; Hebrews 11:7; Romans 4:9ff; Galatians 3:1ff).

Page 82: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The only righteousness God will accept is the righteousness of Jesus Christ, His Son (2 Cor. 5:21); and the only way people can receive that righteousness is by admitting their sins and trusting Jesus Christ to save them (Romans 3:19-30; Gal. 2:16).

Page 83: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Page 84: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Isaiah 64:6b NKJV6b And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;

Page 85: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah must have learned this important truth from his father Lamech (Genesis 5:28-29), who learned it from his father Methuselah, who learned it from his father Enoch.

Page 86: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

http://biblicalproof.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/teach-your-children-the-word-of-god.jpg

How important it is to teach our children and grandchildren how to trust the Lord!

Page 87: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah was a blameless man (v. 9).

If "righteous" describes Noah's standing before God, then "blameless" describes his conduct before people.

Page 88: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

"Blameless" doesn't mean "sinless," because nobody but Jesus Christ ever lived a sinless life on this earth (1 Peter 2:21-22).

Blameless means "having integrity, whole, unblemished."

Page 89: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

It was used to describe the animals acceptable to God for sacrifice (Exodus 12:5; Leviticus 1:3, 10).

Noah's conduct was such that his neighbors couldn't find fault with him (Philippians 2:12-16).

Page 90: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Philippians 2:14-16 NKJV14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

Page 91: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

Philippians 2:14-16 NKJV

Page 92: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The person who is right before God through faith in Christ ought to lead a life that is right before people, for "faith without works is dead" (James 2:14ff).

Page 93: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Paul warned about "unruly and vain talkers and deceivers...who professthat they know God, but in works they deny Him" (Titus 1:10, 16).

Noah wasn't that kind of person.

Page 94: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Noah was a man who walked with God(Genesis 6:9). • His great-grandfather Enoch had

"walked with God" and was suddenly taken to Heaven and rescued (Raptured) from the impending judgment of the Flood (Genesis 5:24).

Noah walked with God and was taken safely through the judgment.

Enoch modeled a godly way of life for Methuselah. • Methuselah must have passed it along

to his son Lamech who shared it with his son Noah.

Genesis 5:24 The Message24 Enoch walked steadily with God. And then one day he was simply gone: God took him.

Genesis 5:22&24 The Amplified 22 Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God

24 And [in reverent fear and obedience] Enoch walked with God; and he was not [found among men], because God took him [away to be home with Him].

Hebrews 11:5-6 NKJV5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:5-6 NKJV

How wonderful it is when generation after generation in one family is faithful to the Lord, especially at a time in history when violence and corruption are the normal way of life.

Page 102: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The life of faith and obedience is compared to a "walk" because this life begins with one step: trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

This step of faith leads to a daily walk, a step at a time, as the Lord directs us.

Page 103: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

He commands us to: "walk in love" (Ephesians 5:2), "walk as children of light" (Ephesians 5:8), "walk in the Spirit" (Galatians 5:16, 25), and to "walk circumspectly [carefully]" (Ephesians 5:15).

A step at a time, a day at a time, we walk with the Lord; and He guides us into His will and blesses us with His wisdom and strength.

Page 105: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

It is interesting that the Bible tells us there was only one door to the Ark (Genesis 6:16). • Similarly, there is only one way to enter

into a relationship with God. • Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and

the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Page 106: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

For those who believe in Him, Jesus is our one entrance into God’s redemptive grace.

Page 107: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Jesus said:John 10:9 NKJV 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Noah was an obedient man (Genesis 6:22; 7:5,16).

One of the major messages in Scripture is that we must not only hear God's Word but we must also obey it (James 1:22-25).

Page 109: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Because Noah was obedient to the Lord, his "house" wasn't destroyed when the storm came (Matt. 7:24-27). • It wasn't easy for Noah and his family

to obey the Lord, because the rest of the population was disobeying God and rebelling against His will.

Page 110: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

According to Enoch, they were ungodly people committing ungodly deeds in ungodly ways and speaking ungodly words against the Lord God(Jude 15).

Page 111: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Whether it has to do with sexual abstinence, using alcohol and drugs, or joining gangs and breaking the law, we hear a great deal today about "peer pressure."

The fear of the sneer of the peer.

Page 112: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Anybody who has ever developed godly character has had to fight against peer pressure, including Noah and his family, Abraham and his family, Moses in Egypt (Hebrews 11:24-26), and Daniel and his friends in Babylon (Daniel 1).

Page 113: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Resisting peer pressure means not only saying a determined no to people but also a dedicated yes to the Lord (Romans 12:1-2).

Page 114: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Most people know that Noah built an ark.

What they may not know is that he also built a godly character and a godly family.

Had it not been for Noah's godly family, Abraham wouldn't have been born; and without Abraham, would there have been a Jewish nation, the Bible, and the Savior?

Building an ark (Genesis 6:14-17).

God told Noah what his task was: to build a wooden vessel that would survive the waters of the Flood and keep Noah and his family safe.

Page 122: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Genesis 6:22 NKJV22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

If the cubit mentioned was the standard cubit of eighteen inches, then the vessel was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.

It had three decks, one door, and a series of small windows eighteen inches high right under the roof, providing light and ventilation.

The three decks were divided into compartments (Genesis 6:14) where the various animals would be kept and where Noah and his family would live.

This vessel was designed for flotation, not navigation.

It was a huge wooden box that could float on the water and keep the contents safe and dry.

Dr. Henry Morris calculated that the ark was large enough to hold the contents of over 500 livestock railroad cars, providing space for about 125,000 animals.

Trusting God's covenant (Gen. 6:18).

This is the first use of the word "covenant" in the Bible. • The word appears often in Scripture

because the covenant concept is an important part of God's great plan of redemption.

Page 130: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

God would explain His covenant to Noah after he left the ark in Genesis 8:20-9:17.

A secure man who waited on God (Gen. 7:1-24)

"Do not be like the horse or like the mule," God counsels in Psalm 32:9, and Noah obeyed that counsel.

Page 132: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The horse sometimes wants to rush ahead impetuously, and the mule wants to drag its feet and stubbornly stay back; but Noah walked with God and worked for God and let God arrange the schedule and work through him.

It is as dark a mile ahead of the LORD as it is a mile behind Him.

Walk with Him daily!

A week of waiting (vv. 1-10).

Since the rains started on the seventeenth day of the second month (Gen. 7:11), it was on the tenth day of the second month that Noah and his family moved into the ark at God's instruction (v. 1).

Page 135: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

During that final week before the Flood, they finished gathering the animals and putting in their supplies.

They followed the Lord's instructions, trusted His covenant promise, and knew that there was nothing to fear.

Page 136: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

At the end of that final week of preparation, Noah and his family obeyed God's command and entered the ark, and God shut the door and made it safe (Gen. 7:16). (Noah may have fallen down in the ark but he could never fall out of the ark.) OSAS

Page 137: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

They didn't know how long they would live in the ark, but the Lord knew, and that's really all that mattered.

"My times are in Your hands" (Psalm 31:15, NKJV).

One year and ten days later, the same God opened the door and invited them to come out to live on His freshly cleansed earth (Genesis 8:16).

Genesis 7:11-14 NKJV11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

12 And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13 On the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark—

Page 141: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

14 they and every beast after its kind, all cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort.

Genesis 7:11-14 NKJV

The day of reckoning (7:11-24).

The Flood was God's judgment of a wicked world.

Page 143: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

God opened the floodgates of heaven so that torrential rains came down, and "all the springs of the great deep burst forth" (v. 11, NIV), so that even the highest mountains were covered by water (v. 20).

Page 144: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

God had waited for over a century for sinners to repent, and now it was too late.

"Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near" (Isaiah 55:6).

Page 145: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The rain stopped after 40 days, which would be on the twenty-seventh day of the third month (Genesis 7:12).

However, the water continued to rise for another 110 days and reached its peak after 150 days (v. 24).

Page 146: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

At that time, the ark rested on a mountain peak of Ararat (8:4).

It would take 150 days for the water to recede (v. 3), which takes us to the twelfth month, the seventeenth day.

Page 147: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Two months and ten days later, Noah and his family left the ark and set the animals free (v. 14).

From the day that God shut them in, they had been in the ark a year and ten days.

Page 148: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

A patient family.

In spite of the devastation on the outside, Noah and his family and the animals were secure inside the ark. • No matter how they felt, or how much

the ark was tossed on the waters, they were safe in God's will.

Page 149: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Patiently they waited for God to complete His work and put them back on the earth.

Page 150: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

It is "through faith and patience" that we inherit God's promised blessings (Hebrews 6:12; 10:36), and Noah was willing to wait on the Lord.• Peter saw in Noah's experience a

picture of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:18-22).

Page 151: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

1 Peter 3:18-22 NKJV18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by Whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,

Page 152: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while theark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

Page 153: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

21 There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Page 154: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

22 Who has gone into Heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.

1 Peter 3:18-22 NKJV

Page 155: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The earth in Noah's day was immersed in water, but the ark floated above the water and brought Noah and his family to the place of safety.

Page 156: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

This was, to Peter, a picture of baptism: death, burial, and resurrection. • The earth was "dead" and "buried"

because of the water, but the ark rose up ("resurrection") to bring the family through safely.

Page 157: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Jesus died, was buried, and arose again; and through His finished work, we have salvation from sin.

Peter makes it clear that the water of baptism doesn't wash away sin.

Page 158: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

It's our obedience to the Lord's command to be baptized (Matthew 28:19-20) that cleanses the conscience so that we are right before God.• The British expositor Alexander Maclaren said: For

a hundred and twenty years the wits laughed, and the "common-sense" people wondered, and the patient saint went on hammering and pitching at his ark. But one morning it began to rain; and by degrees, somehow, Noah did not seem quite such a fool.

The jests would look rather different when the water was up to the knees of the jesters; and their sarcasmswould stick in their throats as they drowned.• So is it always. • So it will be at the last great day.

Page 161: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The men who lived for the future, by faith in Christ, will be found out to have been the wisemen when the future has become the present, and the present has become the past, and is gone forever; while they who had no aims beyond the things of time, which are now sunk beneath the dreary horizon, will awake too late to the conviction that they are outside the Ark of safety, and that their truest epitaph is, "Thou fool!"

Page 162: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

We know from Noah’s account that God is the Creator, that sin has consequences, and that judgment is coming. • The people of Noah’s time lived how

they wanted to live up until the Flood took them.

• They never took the time to repent of their wickedness.

Page 163: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

Page 164: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The Bible warns us that a second judgment is coming—this time by fire (2 Peter 3:7).

People are turning from God, rejecting Him as Creator, and putting themselves in His place.

Page 165: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

God continues to be longsuffering, as He was in Noah’s day, but there will come a time when judgment will come. • During Noah’s time the question

was, “Were you standing in the boat or standing out in the world?”

Page 166: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

There was no hope of survival for the people outside of the Ark, God’s means of physical salvation. • In Noah’s day grace came in the

shape of an Ark. • Today grace comes in the shape of

a Cross.

Page 167: 09 September 27, 2015, Gensis 6 & 7, God Saves

The only way a person can be saved from the eternal consequences of their rebellion against God is to turn from that sin and trust in the Savior Jesus Christ—the way, the truth, and the life.

Where do you stand?
