ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

John Hartman has owned and operated Contemporary Photography in Stevens Point since 1974. He is recognized by his peers as one of the nation’s top portrait artists. For the past 18 years John has presented his Marketing Boot Camp in Las Vegas, where his marketing, business and photographic expertise has attracted thousands of photographers from all over the world. He has authored several industry best-selling books and also has created software products that help photographers improve their marketing, their sales and their creativity.

PRESENTATION: YOUR IMAGE IS IMPORTANT!

Just as marketing helps determine the success of your company; your image plays a part in your own success within your company.

The photograph of you that you use in social media and other advertising or public relations can be seen by an unprecedented number of potential and actual customers. It’s important that the image they see shows you as the professional you are, because like it or not, people make judgments about you and your business based on your photograph.

Portraitist John Hartman will show you what things matter most when selecting a photograph of you for publication online or in print. Everything matters—from clothing selection, to your hair and makeup, to your expression and beyond. The tips you’ll get from John during this informative multimedia presentation will help you look your best when presenting yourself in a photograph to the world.

Please contact Karen Schanock at 715-344-1940 or [email protected] if you have ideas or requests for speakers or topics and regarding sponsorships.

What they have to say \\ For over 30 years, the UWSP Continuing Education Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has assisted small businesses within nine north central counties through no cost confidential advising and fee based workshops, certificate programs and conferences. The center is one of twelve across the state along with three specialty centers. In 2012, the Stevens Point SBDC advised 211 business clients over 2569 hours in addition to 684 client sessions conducted via the internet and over-the-phone.

Developed in 2000, over 600 would-be and existing business owners have completed the SBDC’s flagship series, the Entrepreneurial Training Program. Of those that participated, approximately 325 businesses have started, sustained or grown. This past year, a business idea feasibility component using lean planning tools was added to the program. Offered every fall and spring, this comprehensive and premiere business planning series takes the entrepreneur’s planning full circle from idea to being fully prepared to seek financing.

The SBDC also offers a dynamic trade area mapping service that plots demographics, household spending, customers and competitors and helps visualize a business marketplace. Benefits to the business owner include:-Paints a picture of who lives in the business marketplace -Defines and targets best potential customers by demographic characteristics-Looks at average household spending by industry-Visualizes competitor locations-Plots customer data base to identify the size and location of a business trade area

As a precursor to mapping, SBDC staff assists with industry data and customer identification. Interested businesses can call 715-346-4609 for details.

UWSP Continuing Education Small Business Development Center has been a member of the Portage County Business Council for over 20 years. Offering a solid return on investment, the PCBC is a strong partner, workshop/conference co-sponsor and client referral source! This year’s Special Guest Speaker will be Green Bay Football Legend #33 William Henderson. Mr. Henderson will give a ”locker room pep talk” about the value of education and what it means to him. William Henderson played for Green Bay from 1995-2006 and was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2011.

The event kicks off at 5:00PM and concludes by 7:30PM at the Faith, Arts and Community Center at Pacelli High School with Rockman’s Catering providing hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Members of the Portage County business com-munity welcome new faculty and academic staff members by hosting the recep-tion in their honor. We plan to have one host from the business community for each new faculty or staff person. With a proven track record of building positive relationships between business leaders and educators, this event is an important opportunity socialize, network, create new contacts and have some fun.

The cost to be a host is $30.00 which covers your event cost and that of one faculty or staff person. Hosts will have their business recognized at the event and receive a VIP pass for preferred ‘sideline’ seating with their faculty guest. You may also attend as a visitor with ‘stadium seating’ for the cost of $20.00. The registration deadline for this event is September 16th. Host VIP passes and Visitor stadium seating is limited so register early for this great evening of networking and fun!

LPC KICKS OFF WITH OPENING RETREATOn August 23rd, the 2013-14 Leadership Portage County (LPC) program began at the Portage County Business Council in the morning with Leah Szemborski from AEAS leading a session on personality styless and work place communication. We followed this with an afternoon bus tour of Portage County hosted by Anton Anday which included a stop at the Rising Star Mill in Nelsonville. On Saturday the 24th we met at Boston School Forest in the morning and finished the day with a Road Rally.

The opening retreat is just the beginning for the participants of this 10-month program. During the year, LPC participants develop their leadership skills, learn about Portage County and network with other community leaders. The most productive changes in the community will require efforts by individuals who have the ability to lead effectively and LPC is dedicated to fostering, renewing and sustaining leadership for our community.
