Londoners have been warned to be ready to accept delivery of wood this winter instead of coal, if the coal supply should run dowrt Eng- land has been building up a fuel backlog of wood during the war years, but has not yet had to draw on any of the 140 wood dumps set up in timber areas. Logs unsuit- able for saw-mi!! use have been cut in 4-foot lengths and stacked. Re- serves in these dumps were esti- mated at 100.000 tons, or 80.000 cords. An official of the fuel min- istry said "If the coal situation should become acute and the win- ter should prove exceptionally se- vere this wood will be sold to the public." So Britons who order the customary ton of coal may find the eoal chute full of wood when the delivery truck drives away. LEWIS Ct'P SOCCER (First Round) Brooklyn Wanderers 3. Brook- lyn Hispano 0. Londoners have been warned to be ready to accept delivery of wood this winter instead of coal, if the coal supply should run dowrt England has been building up a fuel backlog of wood during the war years, but has not yet had to draw on any of the 140 wood dumps set up in timber areas. Logs unsuitable for saw-mi!! use have been cut in 4-foot lengths and stacked. Reserves in these dumps were estimated at 100.000 tons, or 80.000 cords. An official of the fuel ministry said "If the coal situation should become acute and the winter should prove exceptionally severe this wood will be sold to the public." So Britons who order the customary ton of coal may find the eoal chute full of wood when the delivery truck drives away.
