7 Principles

▐ Equitable Use

2

Guidelines

1 Equitable use It gives same usability for various physical ability users.

2 Exclude discriminationIt should not be discriminated when users using different methods of use.

3 Provide optionIt gives similar product to users when users do not use same products.

4Exclude anxiety & Secure Relax

It should not attract unwanted attention, makes feel uncomfortable, complex.

5 Wide good feelingIt gives happy feeling to users when they using the product.Product should gives good first impression.

Easy and equitable to use for anyone

7

7 Principles

▐ Flexibility in Use

2

Guidelines

6 Freedom of useIt should gives freely choice multiple way of use(how to grasp, press buttons..).

7Acceptation of handedness

The design should accommodate both right and left hands.Or it should be possible to choose right or left.

8Tolerance of precision

It should have high precision and accuracy. If the user cannot control the product, they cannot freely use the product.

9Freedom of task speed

Users could control the speed of use with comfortable.

10Acceptation ofusing environment

The design that makes no problems in general environment change(temperature, brightness, noise…).

Increase freedom of use by flexibility that could deal various user and situation

8

7 Principles

▐ Simple and Intuitive

2

Guidelines

11 Exclude complexityIt should not have confusion parts or hard to understand to use.

12Coincidence withintuition

The design should coincidence with intuition.

13Understanding without language

The design should be easily understand the way of use and functions without language or knowledge.

14Lead to simple control

The important parts should be emphasized. The structure should indicate how to use it.

15Clue & Feedback about control

It should have hints or feedback about control. The design makes it possible to check the status of process.

16Consideration & Application of 5 senses

The design should use 5 senses enough to give them hints or feedback.

The directions are so clear, any one could intuitively understand

9

7 Principles

▐ Perceptible Information

1

Guidelines

17Overlap of information methods

It should be use overlapping methods(chart, sound, vibration…) to give information.

18Possibility of choosing perception methods

It should be give information surely to the blind or the deaf.

19Well arranged information

Information should be well arranged that easy to recognize for anyone.

20Easy to understand the structure

Parts are surely separated and easy to explain another people.

21Allow assistance equipments

It should be possible to use with glasses, hearing aid, guide dogs.

Important information should not be depend on situation or recognition ability

10

7 Principles

▐ Tolerance for Error

2

Guidelines

22Structure that prevent accident

Design should protect accident from user’s mistakes.

23Isolated dangerous element

If the design adapt dangerous part, it should be isolated from other parts.

24 Prevent accident Product must be designed that users do not fail of use.

25Equip warning system

It takes warning system for unexpected accident. Also it must gives both light and sound signal.

26Secure safety when accident occurred

If any accident happens, it protect the spread of damage.

27Return to original state

If fail of use occurs, it should be easily return to original state.

28Considering all possible event

It should be consider safety of all unexpected situation.

Protect the accidents and has countermeasure for unexpected situation

11

7 Principles

▐ Low Physical Effort

2

Guidelines

29Posture for pleasant use

Products are designed for various physical characteristic and used natural posture.

30Controlled by proper strength

Various users should not feel pain and products are controlled by proper strength that does not give physical burden.

31Exclude meaningless repetition

Design for exclude meaningless repetition.

32Reduce physical burden

It should be reduce user’s physical burden. If it has, the duration should be shorten.

33Protect sensory organs

It should not be gives excessive burden to sensory organs.

Not give burden to body, freely use

12

7 Principles

▐ Size and Space for Approach and Use

2

Guidelines

34 Secure perceptionVarious physical or psychological condition users should be recognize(see, hear, touch) the important parts of product.

35 Secure location of useVarious physical or psychological condition users should be approach parts to use.

36 Allow various userIt accommodate various users with different physical characteristic.

37 Possibility of convertSecure the space when users using the product with aid equipment.

38Reduce possession area

It should be easy to use/carry/storage with appropriate size and shape.

Secure the space and appropriate size of product for various users

13

▐ Consider Durability & Economics

2

Guidelines

39Considering durability for use

It protect the trouble or broken from using long period of time.

40 Appropriate value The level of price should reasonable with the quality.

41 Considering costIt should pursuing reasonable cost, so that prevent rise of price.

42Economic aspect of continuing use

Manage or operation cost(electricity, consumables..) should not be over spent.

43Secure relax of continuing use

Design should be easy to repair, replace of parts(consumables), secure, inspection.

High durability and reasonable price

14

▐ Consider Quality & Aesthetic

2

Guidelines

44 General aestheticColors and shapes of product should be easily accommodated by users.

45 Practical & aestheticIt should take aesthetic aspect that is for effective use of product.

46 Not biased quality It should not be biased and accommodate all types of users .

47Production considering characteristic of material

It should impress that product takes enough the characteristic of recourses or material

48 Stable useProduct should affect the user’s 5 senses and make them pleasant.

High quality and harmony with aesthetic and function of the product

15

▐ Consider Health & Environment

2

Guidelines

49 CleannessFrom 1st use to discard, it should not be troubled in aspect of cleanness.

50 Harmless to humansFrom 1st use to discard, resource that could be harm to humans must not be used.

51Harmless to natural environment

From 1st use to discard, resource that could be harm to natural environment must not be used.

52Promote recycle & reuse

Product should be use recyclable parts or reusable resources.

53Suppress danger from joint use

It should not be occurred environmental problem when using with another products.

54Saving resources & energy

It should save resources and energy.

55Recover pollution or environment problem

It should not be make any environmental trouble in various using situation.

Harmless to humans and considering natural environment
