INDUSTRY SUPPORT

The event plays a key role in networking & knowledge transfer across the industry

China’s Economy continues to positively astound. A rebound in trade figures has seen a rise in exports at 18% and imports at 56% (in December 2009). This upward trend is expected to continue with GDP forecast to grow by 9.5% in 2010.

China Trade Surges On Economic Strength

The recently released plan for the revitalization of the forest industry 2010-2012 by five state government administrations aims to raise the output value of the sector and to maintain growth of around 12% annually. It aims to achieve this in 3 years by focusing on support for 100 national leading enterprises and 10 large wood industry clusters.

Targets:• Output value of the forest industry is set to increase to RMB2.26 trillion in 2012.

• Planned output of the wood-based panel sector will be around 100 million m3.

• Total value of wood products trade is expected to be over US$90 billion of which US$50 billion would be for export.

Export products such as wood-based panels, wood flooring, furniture, wooden doors will be given priority. To meet these targets timber imports are forecast to be over 60 million cu.m (log equivalent). The number of employees in wood processing sectors is set to increase by 12 million. This in turn will sustain new production capacity.

Revitalisation Of The Forest Industry

Foreign exports and imports rose on the year to 2009, an indication, say analysts, that the low-cost manufacturers who assemble equipment using foreign components have proved resilient to the downturn and are benefiting as their customers restock.

Manufacturers Recover Trade

In the downturn China’s furniture industry, with the assistance of tax incentives, turned to focus on long-term investment in new technologies to increase production efficiency in the face of growing global competition, rising production costs, labour shortages and an appreciating currency.

Restructuring of both the primary and secondary wood product industries, is expected over the next five years offering opportunities to machinery manufacturers.
