Maybe you think of people preaching on the street corners in big cities. It may be that the word evangelism reminds of you of an alternative haunted houseset up by a fire and brimstone ministry around Halloween time to scare teens into believing in God. Some of the things that come to mind when you hear the word evangelismmay be com- forting or exciting. Some of the things that come to mind may be conflicting, confusing, or downright intimidating. The word evangelismcomes from the Greek verb euangelion. In Greek, this word is a combination of two words: goodand I bring a message. So, evan- gelism is all about bringing good news. Now that doesnt sound too intimidat- ing, does it!?! Who doesnt want to hear good news!?!** Over the past five months, I have had an opportunity to meet with other Cove- nant pastors from around the Midwest in an Evangelism Cohort. This monthly meeting is a chance for us to learn together and to keep each other accounta- ble. Because we are talking about evangelism, we are talking about what it means to spread the good news of Jesus to people that dont know Jesus yet. These people may be unchurched (have never stepped inside a church and/or have absolutely no religious background) or dechurched (havent been to church in a long time). Every time we meet, we have a time set aside when we assess our passion for evangelism on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being ice cold, and 10 being red hot). Not only do we rate ourselves but we also evaluate our churches as well. Using this scale, what is your passion for spreading the good news of Jesus to people who are unchurched or dechurched? Where do you think Wakefield Evangeli- cal Covenant Church falls on this scale? Evangelism is not about building our numbers up to make ourselves look good, or stealing people from other churches. Evangelism is not even about getting people into our building but being the hands and feet of Jesus in our everyday lives with the people around us. Look at the ministry of Jesus. Jesus spent time in synagogues—in places of worship—teaching the word of God, but much of his ministry took place out among the people. His goal was not to in- vite them into buildings but into encounters with himself. At the end of each service, we have a child in our church carry the light from the Christ candle out of the sanctuary. This is meant to symbolize our bringing the light of Christ—the good news of Jesus—out into the world. As we consid- er some of the ways we might be the hands and feet of Jesus to our friends and neighbors, I pray that God will reclaim the word Evangelism in our lives and remind us that evangelism means, I bring good news!Whats your temperature for evangelism? Pastor Linnea would love to hear from you! **Another fun fact: if you look at the word euangelionyou will find the word angel. As we know, angels bring Gods message.

What comes to mind when you hear the word “evangelism?” Perhaps you think of Billy Graham and revivals. Maybe you think of people preaching on the street corners in big cities. It may be that the word evangelism reminds of you of an “alternative haunted house” set up by a fire and brimstone ministry around Halloween time to scare teens into believing in God. Some of the things that come to mind when you hear the word “evangelism” may be com-forting or exciting. Some of the things that come to mind may be conflicting, confusing, or downright intimidating. A Little About Us . . .

Hi! We are Julie and Mike Couch and we live in Norfolk, Nebraska. By the type of music we play, you know that we are sup-porters of classic country music and coun-try gospel. You will also hear a bit of country folk and western tunes as all of these styles tend to influence each other and are what make them the favorites they are today. You'll experience a bit of family friendly humor between us as well. I mean come on, we are married, and there's nothing funnier than life! Right?

“Praise God for an amazing trip to Wakefield Covenant Church in

Wakefield, Nebraska this past month! I am thankful for friends and

family who are willing to help me through this process of raising

support. Shout out to Linnea Ek, my mom and Mayra Carrera for

helping make this trip possible! Linnea is the pastor at Wakefield

Covenant Church, a colleague of mine from seminary, she was the

one who invited me to visit the church and share about CYAK. My

amazing mom lent me her car for the road trip. And Mayra, my

best friend and current landlord, accompanied me on the trip to

help drive and offer moral support. On April 23rd I preached at the

church service and shared about the ministry of CYAK, the

message was based off of Psalm 139 and Matthew 5:13-16. In

Wakefield, I met an amazing community of people who love God

and love others, they were extremely hospitable and welcoming to

me! …I am so grateful for this opportunity, I would like to thank

those of you who were a part of this trip in big and small ways,

without you this work would not be possible.”

Mission Mission: Pursuing Christ’s Priorities in the World Mission

Help Us Keep The Lights On!

One thing our church is known for is its generosity. We provide help to those in our com-munity as well as support many in the service of our Lord whether it be a missionary, youth going to CHIC or on a mission trip or even a medical clinic in the Congo.

We would like ask that you also remember the ministry of our own church by continuing with your faithful tithing over these summer months. While we are all out on vacations and spending time with loved ones the church continues its ministries and must keep up with the bills such as electricity, wa-ter, trash, and lawn maintenance.

To help you with your regular tithing we have an online giving portal through our website

www.wakecov.org. You can give one time or set up a reoccurring giving plan that you can cancel at anytime. For assistance contact our office manger Dawn Reimers. Thank you!

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly

or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
