How to calculate general/ethics credit:

One credit is equivalent to one hour (60 minutes) of instruction time at an approved CLE

course. Credits can be obtained in quarter-hour increments: 15 minutes of instruction

[email protected] RAEGEN N. RASNIC is a principal in the firm. She focuses her practice on family law, adoption and assisted reproduction, and the defense of medical and mental health professionals in licensing and disciplinary proceedings. She is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of Washington. Raegen is a Fellow of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and serves as Secretary of the Academy’s Board of Trustees. She is a member of the American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Law Attorneys, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the Washington State Psychological Association. She teaches Adoption Law as an Adjunct Professor at Seattle University School of Law. Raegen is an active member of Legal Voice (formerly the Northwest Women's Law Center), and has served on its Legal Committee since 1998. Raegen is past chair of the King County Bar Association's Judicial Screening Committee.

SHANA E. THOMPSON received her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 1999 and is a family law practitioner. Shana has served on the CLE advisory committee board of the KCBA for several years. Beginning in 2002, Shana was a board member of the South King County Bar Association and finished her years of service as President from 2006 – 2007. Shana has been actively involved in volunteering for the neighborhood family law legal clinics, both in Kent and Greenwood, for the past ten years.

NANCY HAWKINS received her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington in 1979 and her law degree from the University of Puget Sound Law School in 1981. She is a sole practitioner who concentrates her practice in the areas of family law, estate planning and personal injury. She is a former chair of the King County Bar Association Family Law Section. She is a frequent speaker at legal seminars on family law issues. She is a chapter author of the Washington State Bar Association’s Family Law Desk book.

STACY HEARD is an attorney who practices exclusively family law in Seattle, Washington. Stacy has served clients for nearly 20 years in the Seattle area. Prior to and during law school, Stacy worked as a family law and civil litigation paralegal. Her broad experience in family law includes cases involving complex financial issues, parenting plan/child custody issues, relocation, restraining orders, and child support issues. Prior to starting her own practice in 2005, she worked at a large Seattle civil litigation firm where she also gained valuable negotiation and litigation experience. Stacy is a 1990 graduate of the University of Oregon, with honors, and a 1998 graduate of Seattle University School of Law. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Oregon State Bar Association, King County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Washington Women's Lawyers, and QLaw, the GLBT Bar Association of Washington. She is also a volunteer attorney for the King County Bar Association Kinship Care Solutions and Lawyer's Fostering Independence and is a former volunteer for the King County Bar Association Family Law/Domestic Violence Clinic. She received Pro Bono Publico Service Commendations from the WSBA in 2008 and 2009 (50+ hours of pro bono public service) and has been recognized as a "Rising Star" by Washington Law and Politics three years in a row. Stacy is also on the Board of Homeward Pet Adoption Center, the largest no-kill animal shelter in the state.

JANET HELSON received her law degree from the University of California Berkeley in 1989. In practice in Washington since 1992, she joined Skellenger Bender in 2004. Janet has particular expertise in parenting issues, including domestic violence, the Relocation Act, interstate jurisdiction, de facto parent, and nonparental custody. Janet serves on the National Family Law Advisory Council of the National Center For Lesbian Rights; her practice includes advising and representing LGBT clients on family law issues. Janet served on the Washington State Bar Association Family Law Executive Committee from 2001 to 2007, has served as a pro tem family law commissioner, and is a frequent presenter at family law seminars on parenting issues.

JAYNE HULSEY, MPH University of Washington 1987, after eight years with Family Court Services for the King County Superior Court, has been in private practice since 1998 providing mediation, arbitration, evaluation, counseling, consultation and Title 26 guardian ad litem services. She has handled more than 500 mediations and 400 parenting plan evaluations and domestic violence assessments. Jayne is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State and has been a presenter and coach at various professional forums since 1994. She conducts agreed and court-ordered parenting plan evaluations to determine the best outcome for the children, mediates with parents in developing or modifying parenting plans, provides reunification and co-parenting counseling for parents and children, and serves as a team member in collaborative divorce cases and as an arbitrator of parenting plan conflicts.

WENDY HUTCHINS-COOK, Ph.D., ABFP/ABPP received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Washington in 1983. She received Board Certification in Forensic Psychology in 2006 from the American Board of Professional Psychology. Dr. Hutchins-Cook serves on the Clinical Faculties of the University Of Washington Department Of Psychology and the Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Hutchins-Cook is in private practice. She is regularly appointed by the court as a parenting evaluator, and testifies as an expert in child and family matters. She presents regularly for the King County Bar Association.

DAVID LAW is a principal in the firm. He is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of Washington. David focuses his practice on family law litigation. David is a past chair of the Family Law Section of the King County Bar Association and has served on the Executive Committee of the Washington State Bar Association Family Law Section. David served on a taskforce organized by the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Northwest Women's Law Center that helped draft comprehensive revisions to the civil protection order statute and he assisted in the redrafting of those portions of the Parenting Act that require court mandated restrictions for sex offenders. David served for several years as co-chair of the Legislation Subcommittee of the Family Law Section of the King County Bar Association. David is co-author of the chapter "Pretrial Motions Practice" in the Washington Family Law Desk book (2d. ed. 2000). He has been an instructor at the annual Washington Bar Association Family Law Skills Institute and a speaker at seminars to professional and lay groups on topics including civil contempt and parenting plan and child support modifications. David volunteers as a member of the Legal Committee of the Northwest Women's Law Center, where he has also served as a cooperating attorney. KELLY SHANKS M.Ed., LMHC

KELLY SHANKS, M.Ed., LMHC is a psychotherapist and mediator. She worked for King County Superior Court for many years in the Dependency CASA, Family Court Services and Unified Family Court programs. After leaving the Court in 2006, Kelly has been in private practice providing child-focused mediation, parenting evaluations and adult psychotherapy. She developed and taught the curriculum for the King County Family Law seminar "What about the Children?" for many years. A major focus of her work is helping parents build or regain a healthy post-separation alliance through child focused and child inclusive mediation. Kelly is a clinical associate at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, has a post-graduate certificate from the UW in effective treatment of psychological trauma and training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Last fall she traveled to Australia for clinical training with Jennifer McIntosh in Child Inclusive Family Dispute Resolution.

[email protected] COMMISSIONER LORI K. SMITH graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Criminal Justice. She attended the University Of Washington School of law and obtained an internship with the King County Prosecutor’s Office Family Support Division. She stayed there for 20 years and became the Lead Senior Deputy in the Paternity Section and later was made the Managing Attorney for the Kent Office. In 2005, Commissioner Smith was appointed to her current position by the King County Superior Court Judges. She has presided over civil commitment trials, domestic violence protection order hearings, family law motions calendars, the State contempt of court and child support calendars and the Trial by Affidavit Calendar. She has also conducted settlement conferences and served as a trial judge pro tem. She is currently the chair of the Unified Family Court Training Oversight Committee.
