if I went out and stopped 2 dozen people on the street,

I am afraid there wouldn’t be 6 who could recite a specific desire which governs their lives. there wouldn’t be a dozen who could tell with certainty

why they went to work this morning.

During the 10 year from 1996 to 2006, AMERICANS’ BOOK-READING HABITS have STEADILY DECLINED.

The National Endowment for the Arts Reading At Risk Survey

60.9% of U.S. adults read any book in 1992

10 YEARS LATER

56.6% of U.S. adults read any book in 2002

95.7% of U.S. adults were more likely to watch TV at least 1 hour a day
