WHO SHOULD DO THIS COURSE?
This course is for:
those already with basic IT experience
who wish to build skills and confidence in using computers at work or at home

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW TO START THE COURSE? Need to be able to understand basics of
computing, How to use a mouse effectively Understand how to use menus and on screen
selection tools Knowledge all of the main keys on the
keyboard Minimum Entry Level 3 reading ability

HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED? The course is broken in to units covering different
aspects of Office Productivity software.
To gain a full course certificate You must complete:
A. Mandatory unit 1
B. Complete 2 other optional units of your choice.
Units can be studied in the order of your choice

File Management and E-Document Production.
Learn how to carry out the most common tasks using a word processor. Learn how to keep work organised.

Optional Units 2 &3
2 - Creating Spreadsheets & Graphs.
Learn how to monitor, plan, perform calculations and create graphs.
3 - Database Manipulation.
Learn how to create simple database systems to store and retrieve useful sets of information.

Optional Units 3 to 6
4 - E-Publication Creation. Learn how to create posters, cards and adverts.
5 - E-Presentation Creation. Learn how to create slideshows with pictures
and words
6 - E-Image Creation (not currently available)

Optional Units 7 & 8
7 - Web Page Creation.
Learn how to create simple websites using text images and links.
8 - Online Communication.
Learn how to use outlook email client and the internet to search for information

Varies according to student prior learning, attendance and motivation

DO I HAVE TO DO EXAMS? To complete a unit; students must pass a live
assignment.
It’s a practical test or exam that is taken in the classroom in Business like environment
Taken at a time when student and tutor are confident of success
Live assignments can be taken across several sessions and students may use their own notes.

What if I make mistakes?
Grade is pass or fail for each unit
Most students pass on first attempt
Any unit live assignments can be re-sat using a different paper

LIVE ASSIGNMENT MARKING Live assignments are marked for errors
Allowed 4 minor accuracy errors
Not allowed any major errors
A Major error is an error in work that would make the work not fit for purpose in a real-life situation

HOW DO I KNOW IF I PASSED?
Assignments are marked internally – you will normally be notified of an expected result within 10 days
Assignments are also marked externally by the OCR examination board
Assignments are batch submitted to OCR at regular intervals
We receive certificates from OCR within a month of submission

ATTENDANCE AND BOOKING Students are allowed to book up to 2 computer
sessions per week
Sessions are 2 hours each
Starting at 10am, 12pm, 2pm
2 extra sessions on Monday evenings at 4pm and 6pm
Recommended minimum attendance of 2 sessions per week

Booking and Cancellation
Sessions are booked using the computer booking sheets
If you are unable to attend telephone us in advance so your seat can be booked by another student.
You do not need to give a reason why you can’t attend

LATENESS
Please let us know if you think you will be more than 15 minutes late for a booked session
Any seats that are unclaimed 15 mins after a session starts are made available to students who wish to extend their session or to clients who want to make use of the IT facilities
for jobsearch activity.

OCR Text Processing (Business Professional)
Continue study with BRC Study more units to gain Diploma
Move on to the more complex Level 2
