One of the first decisions inmaking a fire is where toput it and how to ensure itlights properly.

• A camp fire needs to be

built up so that it radiatesheat and light all around

• Before lighting the fire, build a bigger tee-pee overthe existing fire using themain fuel, then the largefuel, keeping the way clear

• Continue blowing harderand harder as the woodburns until the fire doesn’tmake any differenceflames

• If the ground is damp orwet, build the fire on a

• If it is raining hard, youmay need to build ashelter over the fire. Butmake sure both the shelterand the platform are madeof green and not old, dry wood.
