1 Peter 2 9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal

priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that

ye should shew forth the praises (excellence; virtue) of

Him Who hath called you out of darkness into His

marvelous light: 10Which in time past were not a

people, but are now the people of God: which had

not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

God has chosen us to be His Own People:

The church age is a special age:

Every Christian is a king and a priest.

2

Jesus is King of kings

He has dominion over all things.

We are royalty -- sons and daughters of God;

Jesus Christ is our elder brother.

3

We have the Power of royalty:

Power with God -- to do His Work.

Power over our old carnal nature, bringing it into submission to the Word and Spirit of God.

Power over sin and all our spiritual enemies -- the kingdom of Satan.

excellency of our own spirits, and in our hopes and

expectations; Matthew Henry

AcceptedSeparatedfrom sin and sinners

• Separated from sin and from sinners

Set aside unto God • Set aside unto God

Offering unto Him spiritual services and

worship,

• Offering unto Him our service and worship

acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

• Accepted by God thru Jesus Christ

We are one Holy Nation.

Under One Head

Having similar manners and customs

Governed by the same laws

Worshipping the same God

Renewed and sanctified by His Holy Spirit.

7

We are God’s peculiar people – meaning

He chose us to be His Own

He bought us with the Blood of His Son

He cares for us as for favorite servants.

He delights in us as His precious children.

9 … that ye (we) should shew forth the praises

(excellence; virtue) of Him …

God chose us, bought us, cares for us,

delights in us, and made us His people,

Brought us out of darkness into His glorious light,

and granted us His sweet mercy -- for a purpose:

9

The excellence and virtue of Jesus Christ must

be seen in us, for we are His body on this earth.

People can’t see within us, to see our spirit.

It is in our walking and talking that we show the

excellence and virtue of JESUS to the world.
