He is a God that equips and empowers His people. He knows your potential and desires that you grow in your discipleship and reach your full potential as part of His church. Think of how God will use you here at Faith. You can make a difference. For example: If you are thinking of how you might impact the next generation of our church, you might be willing to assist our DCE, Tim Richter, in working with our youth; or by contacting Deaconess Kathy McCoy and seeing how you could assist in our Sunday School ministry. These are only two ways members can use their God-given abilities to serve others and glorify God in the process. As you consider your involvement in the ministry of our congregation, please remember that our new model of ministry allows members to make either short or long-term commitments to the ministry area you serve. You are not locked-in for life. Be open to serving, you may find a ministry area you truly love. I am looking forward to serving together with you in our shared ministry Blessings, Pastor Dan

Welcome to the new school year at Faith Lutheran! Thank you for joining our Faith family. We will be teaching the love of Jesus for us, sharing the love of Jesus for others, living the love of Jesusfor the world, and developing the love of learning in each of our children. Parent involvement will bean integral part of this school year.

It is often hard for a parent or other loved one to leave a young child who cries and clings. The child is experiencing separation anxiety. Your child’s behavior can be a positive sign. It showsthat he or she recognizes and has formed important attachments with loved ones. Children may notunderstand when loved ones will be back. These situations can be upsetting to the loved ones whohave to leave—as well as to the child.

Here are some suggestions for making this separation easier for your child.Keep bedtime and morning routines.Allow your child to take a small cuddly "Lovie" to school.Let your child know that he or she will be all right. Do not give in.Remind your child of previous brave things he or she has done.Let your child know, in words he or she can understand that you appreciate how distressingit must be to be separated from loved ones. Use understanding and acceptance, but not exces-sive sympathy.Never make fun of your child's separation distress. Do not scold your child for it.Do not bribe your child to mask the distress. If you plan a special activity after you pickthem up, let it be unconditional.Focus on the positive things that happened in daycare. Don't let them dwell on fears or imag-ination of what might happen.Prepare your child by reading books about going to preschool.Make shopping for school supplies a special event just for that child.Don't sneak out of the room. When leaving, give a quick kiss and hug and cheerfully say goodbye.Don't prolong your departure or come back several times.

This school year will be a great experience in your child’s education. If you have any questions, please contact Pilar Tucker or Kathy Knudtson at 842-2487.

What’s Your Attitude?

at-ti-tude |’ati,t(y)oôd|nouna settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior

In my book of quotes, from an author unknown, a definition of attitude is; “No condition or set of circumstances is in itself acalamity to be feared. It is our reaction to it that makes it a “waterloo” or a field of triumph”

A while back during our pastor’s Sunday morning Bible class, the issue of attitude came up. Although the word “attitude” wasn’tmentioned, the discussion centered on how do we witness to people unless we view persons in light of how Jesus wants us toview them.

Enemy to be feared, or someone to love?

With current events often centering on terrorists and specifically Islam, the question as to “how we view Muslims” came up. Howdo we view a Muslim in light of radical Islam and its promotion of murder, war and persecution? First reactions were that thesepeople were out to kill us because we were Christians or Jews; they were our enemy and the enemy of Christ; and now they’reinfiltrating our society with their insistence on changing our Judeo Christian laws into Islamic Law or Sharia. Even a statementthat “Islam religion was of the Devil under Satin’s influence” came up.

What would Jesus do?But then the question came up, “how do we witness to these people if we view (have an attitude) every Muslim as an enemy tobe feared and hated?” What would Jesus do if he were in our shoes?

This was a difficult question because a lot of our feelings center on our attitude about the Islamic religion and a stereotype ofevery Muslim being a terrorist. Islam is a religion of slavery for anyone who follows the practice of Islam. Like all religions, exceptChristianity, religions of the world are under a yoke of slavery. By keeping religious laws and precepts, a person may (if goodenough, but no certainty) earn eternal life or receive some benefit in the after life. When we look at the Bible the true God revealsthat:

Jesus is God and came to earth as a human. He took our place and lived perfectly without sin fulfilling God’s laws and requirements which God demands of all of us.Since all have sinned, Jesus died for the sins of the whole world and satisfied God’s justice by punishing Jesus insteadof us for our sins. Then Jesus rose from the dead to proclaim victory over sin, death and the devil. As believers in the resurrected Christ, we have a freedom that no other belief system has – freedom from sin, death andthe Devil.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by ayoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1 (NIV)

What Jesus did was to die for us. But the Bible is also clear that Jesus died for the Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Mormon - all peopleof false religions – and offers all people eternal life through the reconciliation that came from God through Jesus’ payment for thesins of the whole world.

So what should be our attitude toward all persons?

When we see or meet a Muslim, or any person no matter what faith, we should have compassion as they too are children of ourCreator. Like our sins, their sins were also taken to the cross of Christ. Although currently lost in their evil religion, there is stillHope of eternal life for them.

Maybe God has put you in this place at this moment. Maybe God is using you to reach a lost soul, destined to hell without Christ, and waiting for you to share the Good News of the Gospel. This is a person, a child of God, and needing your help now beforeit is too late and death separates him or her from our loving and faithful God.

What’s your attitude now? I hope it is one of love, compassion, gentleness, and courage to save another lost soul for Christ!
