ENERGY DAY 2016
Nur Syamimi Nadhirah binti Irriawadi BE1
On 17th November 2016 Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong held a morning assembly in the Multi-Media Theatre to celebrate Energy
Day. This event, which was organised by the Biology, Chemistry and Physics departments, aimed to increase awareness of green
energy among the students as well as to make them more aware of energy saving strategies by introducing them to the various ways
in which we can save energy.
The event began with three presentations from Science students.
The first presentation was by two students from the Chemistry Department who successfully enlightened the audience on the differ-
ent types of energy sources. Students studying Physics then relayed information to show how energy is wasted in our country through
factual statistics designed to act as a wakeup call to everyone. It was noted that among the ASEAN countries, Brunei has the highest
energy usage per year, per person. This overconsumption may be due to the low cost of electricity as noted by one of the presenters.
The third presentation was from three Biology
students who gave an eye-opening slideshow on
Earth Hour, emphasising the significance of how
little things like turning off switches when not in
use can make a big difference.
The event closed with a ‗Lights Out‘ session,
whereby we sat in the dark for ten minutes as a
way of encouraging the audience to reflect on the
messages given during the presentations.
Following the assembly, students who were free
made their way to the admin foyer where they
found a Pledge Tree. The Pledge Tree – which
was a prop from the last year‘s Theatre Club pro-
duction of Hansel and Gretel - acted as a place
where students could write pledges to say how
how they will conserve energy and hang these
pledges on its branches. There was also an Ener-
gy Day Exhibition where posters on alternative
sources of energy and quizzes based on infor-
mation from the posters and the previous presen-
tations were displayed. Students with at least
Students writing their pledges to reduce their consumption of energy eight correct answers were given small prizes.
Of course, awareness campaigns like these are not new. Regrettably, there are still a number of people who turn a blind eye to im-
portant matters like these, despite all the awareness that has been raised. Priscilla Chong Su Huan of BE 6 commented that change
should start from every individual if we are to persuade people to take action. ―I think we should set an example to others, because
sometimes we speak of saving the earth but we don‘t actually do anything about it. The best way is to lead by example; practising
what we preach.‖
A great deal of effort has been made to relay and spread the message of energy saving at PTES, but it will be all for naught if we, the
teachers and students, do not put what we have learned into practice.

WORKING VISIT TO MIRI
Dr Haji Makarimi bin Hj Kasim, Head of the Professional Research and Development Section
At around 6.30 a.m. on Friday 18th November a contingent of twenty-five members of the PTES teaching and non-teaching staff,
members of the PIBG as well as members of their families was seen heading to Miri for a working visit.
The visit which was organised by two members of the Professional Research and Development Section – Dr Haji Makarimi bin Hj
Kasim and Ustaz Zulkiflee bin Hj Jaili – was to Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang College (TDTHBC) in Miri, Sarawak. The main aim
of the visit was to provide the staff concerned with an opportunity to see at first-hand an example of how a Malaysian college is run
and to give them the chance to exchange ideas with their Malaysian counterparts.
On arrival, the PTES contingent which was led by Deputy Principal Administration Cikgu Alexandar bin Bandang, received a warm
welcome. A photo-session was the first item on the agenda before the PTES delegates were given a briefing in the conference room
behind the photo-session area.
The briefing started with the recital of the Du’a by one of the college lecturers. Cikgu Hajah Hasimah binti Abg Zen, who has been
Principal of the college since Sept 2003, then welcomed Cikgu Alexandar bin Bandang and the rest of the PTEs delegates. The
briefing covered four topics: a) Academic Matters, b) the Role of the PIBG, c) Best Practices and d) Future Collaboration.
a) Academic Matters
The Principal of TDTHBC was proud to introduce
herself as a former student of the college. In
addition, she gave an overview of its colourful
history which dates back to 1957. The PTES
delegates were informed that the college champions
a number of alumni who now hold prominent
positions in Malaysia and that the college lives up to
its slogan ―Di Sini Pemimpin Dilahirkan‖ or
―Leaders are born here‖. Given the teaching
methods employed at the college, this should come
as no surprise.
Cikgu Hajah Hasimah briefly explained the
available study package for the Upper and Lower
Sixth classes such as, the Malaysian University Eng-
lish Test (MUET), Economics, Business Studies,
History, Bahasa Melayu, Physics, Biology, Chemistry Group photo of PTES delegates and their TDTHBC conterparts
and Mathematics. The PTES contingent was able to observe how students are encouraged to conduct their own project based
learning by asking questions and doing their own research with the minimum of supervision.
b) The Role of the PIBG
One of the PIBG representatives briefly talked about the active role that parents played in the organising of college activities such as:
Orientation for Forms 1, 4 and 6; the Tanjong Festival; all sports events; National Independence Month; Integration of Celebration
(RIMUP Mega Gaya) for unity for Chinese New Year; the Gawai Celebration; Deepavali; Hariraya; Gotong-Royong Perdana
(helping-out); PIBG meetings with the students; the Hostel Carnival; Majlis Izin Ilmu (blessing of tutors‘ wisdom); blessing nights
before examinations; and Graduation Day, including the awarding of prizes and certificates. The highlights of the PIBG activities to
date have been the College Golden Jubilee in 2007 and a Reunion Dinner on 15th July, 2016.
11
WORKING VISIT TO MIRI
c) Best Practices
The PTES delegates learned that as part of the college‘s best practices, the teaching staff at TDTHBC had taken part in several ICT
related programmes such as the Google Educator Group (GEG) in 2015 and the VLE Frog programmes. Cikgu Hajah Hasimah also
emphasised that, as the Principal, she had be well versed in any ICT or computer related programmes that her tutors/teachers
underwent.
The PTEs contingent was also interested to learn that she is currently teaching 9 periods of Chemistry a week (Apparently, in
Malaysia, it is compulsory for heads of schools and colleges to teach at least one class and to be fully acquainted with all the
teaching progammes that are run. This is to inculcate good leadership and to enable the heads of these academic institutions to
identify more easily any problems that exist in the teaching and running of their schools or colleges) but this will be increased to 15
periods by next year. This is part of the college‘s vision which is that of dilligently providing successful quality education in order to
create well-rounded individuals.
d) Future Collaboration
For continuous collaboration between PTES and TDTHBC it was agreed that both parties would be engaged in subject exchanges as
part of their respective professional development programmes. The subjects in question were ICT and English Language. Other ideas
– for example the idea of PTES students and lecturers conducting a visit to the college so that they can exchange ideas with their
Malaysian peers in the future - were continued during the tea break.
To make this agreement official, a memorandum was signed between both institutions to commemorate this historical event. After
the signing of the memorandum, mementoes were exchanged as a token of appreciation for the fruitful work that had taken
taken place. Before the end of the working visit, the members of the PTES contingent were given a guided tour of the college
grounds and were left suitably impressed by the facilities available at the college.
An historic day: Cikgu Hajah Hasimah binti Abg Zen and Cikgu Alexandar bin Bandang sign an official memorandum that
will see future collaboration between PTES and TDTHBC

THE FUTURE IS IN SAFE HANDS
Cikgu Roziana binti Haji Juned
The International Convention Centre was the venue for the eleventh National Youth Day celebration which was held on Thursday 3rd
November 2016.
Present at the celebration, but as representatives of Seeds (Students‘ Extracurricular and Educational Dramatic Society) Brunei, were
three PTES teachers – Cikgu Roziana binti Haji Juned, Cikgu Dayangku Nur Sajidah Rohani binti Pengiran Haji Roslan and Cikgu
Siti Khadizah binti Roslan – and it was their job
to man the Seeds Brunei booth and to tell visitors
a little about the aims and the activities of this
organisation.
In terms of visitors, none was made more wel-
come than His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah Mu‘izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and
Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who vis-
ited the booth in the company of His Royal High-
ness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown
Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister‘s
Office and His Royal Highness Prince ‗Abdul
Malik.
Not at all fazed by this royal visit, Cikgu Roziana
and Cikgu Dayangku Nur Sajidah gave lengthy
answers and explanations to all of His Majesty the
Sultan‘s questions and he must surely have been
left with the feeling that, with organisations such
as Seeds Brunei, the youth of the nation is in safe
hands.
Also attending the celebration were Deputy Prin-
cipal Academic, Cikgu Tutty Hyrneeita binti Haji
Abdul Latip, and a group of PTES students.
For those of you who may not have heard of
Seeds Brunei, this is a society which has been
home to the arts and talented youth in Brunei
since 2009. The society has produced seven musi-
cals since then which include, Oliver!, Into the
Woods and Pride (based on The Lion King). This
year's musical, which is expected to run at the end His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah in
of November, is entitled Seuss! and is directed by conversation with Cikgu Roziana and Cikgu Dayangku Nur Sajidah at the
Pusat Tingkatan Sengkurong‘s very own Dk Nur Seeds Brunei booth
Sajidah Rohani, and is produced by Siti Khadizah. About sixty students and thirty coaches are working around the clock – with a lot
of blood, sweat and tears – to produce another entertaining musical for the public this year. More information can be obtained on
Seeds Brunei's ig page @seedsbrunei.

INTERVIEW WITH CIKGU ROZIANA BINTI HJ JUNED
Dk Aida Nadiah binti Pg Hj Dahlan, BE 15
Fresh from manning the Seeds Brunei booth at the International Convention Centre for the eleventh National Youth Day celebration
Cikgu Roziana binti Haji Juned (CR) kindly agreed to an interview with Pulse reporter Dk Aida Nadiah binti Pg Hj Dahlan (DN):
DN: Whose idea was it to put on the production Seuss!?
CR: The main committee members had a meeting in January and decided to produce a musical that is not commonly staged.
DN: Did you read the Dr. Seuss books when you were a child? If yes, what impression did they have on you?
CR: I only read Dr Suess when I have children! My childhood was filled with Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka books like Buaya Putih
and Pak Saloi. But I enjoy reading Dr. Seuss books with my girls now – the kind of simple ryhming and wordplay used in the
books and issues that are probably not as strikingly presented as those in Corialanus or Julius Caesar. My eldest really likes
The Cat in the Hat, so when I broke the news to her that Seeds Brunei will be staging Seuss! she was thrilled.
DN: What do the Dr. Seuss books mean to you now that you are an adult?
CR: They show me how our imaginations can be stretched, how creativity can be produced just by ordinary things, and how certain
issues (controversial and political) can be delivered in simple language.
DN: What is your role as a member of Seeds Brunei?
CR: I am the Co-Chairperson of Seeds Brunei. Together with the other Co-Chairperson, Md Hilmi bin Zaini, we have been manag-
ing the organisation since January 2016. In the end of year production Seuss!, I am the Executive Producer.
DN: How did you achieve this position?
CR: I started as a mere coach and my role in the end of year musical was always that of Props Mistress until, in 2015, I was appoint-
ed as the Treasurer of Seeds Brunei and chosen as the director for that year‘s end of year musical. I was given the musical The
Lion King. In 2015, when the founders and chairpersons of Seeds Brunei decided to retire, I was kindly asked to co-manage the
organisation. It has been extremely tough dealing with bureaucracy and difficult parents and students (a small number!) but
whenever this happens I just think of what the students in Seeds Brunei want to achieve, what they have done since the begin-
ning of the year and what they have sacrificed to be a part of this creative endeavour. This might sound cliched but the stu-
dents‘ determination keeps me going. That‘s what I love about being the Chairperson. Some people might try to make it diffi-
cult but what matters the most is to showcase these students‘ talents. So, I just have to keep going.
DN: Who decided who the director and the producer of the production would be?
CR: Again, this was decided at the beginning of the year by the main committee members. Our very own PTES teachers from the
English Department hold these two prominent roles in the production. Cg Dk Nur Sajidah Rohani binti Pg Roslan is the Direc-
tor of Seuss! while Cg Siti Khadizah bte Roslan is the Producer. They have been busy preparing the musical for the public.
DN: What were the challenges when it came to auditions and assigning roles to the students who are members of Seeds Brunei
CR: Plenty! The lack of commitment from just a few students, a few parents and individuals who do not fully understand how the
society works and tried to shut us down. Then money is another problem. Coaches spent their own money on workshops and
students, knowing that the end of year profits will not be enough to pay them back. However, there is continuous commitment
from the majority of students and teachers, parents who have been extremely supportive and understanding, driving their chil-
dren every single day to rehearsals. So, despite the challenges, this group of people makes it all worthwhile.
DN: To date, what has been the most rewarding part of working in theatre?
CR: Working with a committed and dedicated bunch of teachers and students and hearing good reviews from their parents, col-
leagues, MOE officers and everyone else. Seeing students enjoying themselves whether in workshops or in the end of year pro-
duction. Then seeing how students build their characters, their growing confidence and networking skills, not to mention the
different creative input from each student in the organisation. Recently, Seeds Brunei participated in the 11 th National Youth
Day which was celebrated at the ICC and where Miss Noni, Miss Dizah and myself were given the honour of showcasing
Seeds Brunei‘s talents to His Majesty the Sultan. It was surreal.

INTERVIEW WITH CIKGU ROZIANA BINTI HJ JUNED
DN: What do you hope the audience will gain from watching this musical production?
CR: It is hoped that the audience will understand and appreciate the hard work and difficulties faced by both coaches and students. I
hope that the audience sees that the determination and collaboration between coaches and students is all carried out to encour-
age the growth of the performing arts in Brunei.
DN: Are you planning any other musical productions in the future? If so, what would you do differently next time?
CR: Next year, Seeds Brunei will take a break from theatre and will venture into a new kind of project. This will be revealed next
year. I am not allowed to say anything yet!
CR: What do you think can be done to create more awareness of Seeds Brunei and encourage more students to join?
DN: Definitely by doing roadshows in a lot more schools in the district. We have students from Tutong who have commendable ded-
ication in attending workshops and rehearsals, even on a Sunday!
DN: What advice would you give to someone who wants to do what you do?
CR: Persevere. When things get tough, look for solutions and find strength in what has been done rather than what cannot be done.

Tourism students, known as the Ace-plorers, organised a one-day Youth
Adventure Course. The event took place at Batang Duri Camp, Outward
Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD) in Temburong District from 6.15
a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Twenty-four students signed up for this jungle adventure and they were
accompanied by four lecturers from the Travel and Tourism Department
and two members of the Photography Club.
All the participants assembled at the new Bandar Jetty in Bandar Seri
Begawan. From there, it was a forty-five minute boat ride to the Tembu-
rong Jetty. After that, the participants were taken to Batang Duri Camp
where their long yet exciting adventure began.
This event was a programme which targeted young adventure seekers
and those looking for a challenge in the wild. The activities, which in-
cluded kayaking, the flying fox, team building and jungle trekking, pri-
marily focused on character development. The Youth Adventure Course
tested the participants‘ physical and mental capabilities, their on-the-spot Participants excited about the challenges ahead
decision making and their communication skills. At the same time, it helped foster friendship among the participants as well as their
self-discipline.

Course an extremely successful one. Despite the rain, we still managed to conduct both land and water activities for our participants
and they enjoyed these activities very much.‖ – member of Ace-plorers.
―The activities organised by the OBBD were great fun and really tested our mental and physical abilities. On top of that, one of the
most important things that these activities taught us was the importance of cooperating with each other. Moreover, the service by the
Ace-plorers was very satisfying since they provided us with everything we needed.‖ - participant
―Alhamdulliah the event went smoothly despite the heavy rain. But kayaking in the rain made the whole thing more memorable.
Thank you Ace-plorers for organising this event!‖ – participant

BRUNEI SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Cikgu Siti Khadizah binti Roslan
On Sunday 13th November three PTES students - BE 1‘s Nur Azimatun Najibah binti Hj Sijol, BE 4 girl Fairuz Fasihah binti
Maswadi and BE 11 representative Izzul Haziq bin Haji Zalani - volunteered to help out at the Brunei Special Olympics which were
held at Fitness Zone, Kampong Kiulap. Fresh from their exploits, they were keen to share their experience with others:
Nur Azimatun Najibah binti Hj Sijol
Asked why she had volunteered to help at this event, Nur Azimatun explained that it was because she wanted to help other people as
well as to gain some experience of volunteering. On the day, her main function was to explain to the children taking part in the Spe-
cial Olympics what they had to do and to stand at a specially designated station in order to help the competitors. Although she admit-
ted to never having volunteered before, Nur Azimatun revealed that the volunteers needed no specific training: ‗We were just told
what activities we were going to do with the children,‘ she commented.
As for the question of how she felt she had benefited from the experience, Nur Azimatun said that it had helped her to understand
children with special needs a little more. In addition, she confided that the children had taught her a valuable lesson: ‗It taught me
that even if we fail, we can be positive and try harder.‘ To conclude her interview, Nur Azimatun stated that she had had a great day
and would have no hesitation in volunteering again on a future occasion.
Fairuz Fasihah binti Maswadi
Just like Nur Azimatun, Fairuz Fasihah was prompted to volunteer because
of a desire to help children with special needs. However, this was not
Fairuz‘s first experience of volunteering as she answered the call for help
when the family of one of her friends organised a charity event for the needy
two years ago.
Her duties on the day involved helping the children to play and cheering
them on and, as she explained, this experience helped her to understand chil-
dren with special needs a bit more. As well as gaining a deeper insight into
the world of children with special needs, Fairuz Fasihah also felt that the
experience made her feel more positive (‗even though the children failed in
the games!‘), so it is no surprise to learn that she is keen to repeat the experi-
ence: ‗I am going to volunteer for more programmes like this so that I can
take care of special needs children in the future,‘ she stated.
Izzul Haziq bin Haji Zalani
Even though Izzul Haziq admitted to having had no previous experience of
working with children with special needs, he explained that his decision to
help out at the Brunei Special Olympics was due to the fact that he has a
friend who is someone with special needs. ‗Although I had no previous
hands on experience, I am well aware of the fact that people with special
needs require help, especially a companion,‘ he pointed out.
As for the benefits of taking part in this event, Izzul Haziq felt that his com-
munication skills had improved and that it had left him with a strong feeling
of well-being: ‗Helping people feels great,‘ he stated.
Asked whether he would like to do volunteer work again, Izzul Haziq con-
cluded his interview as follows: ‗I am not sure when I will next have an op-
portunity to volunteer, but I am looking forward to it.‘

BRUNEI’S ART AMBASSADOR
Abdul Quddus bin Hashim, BE 6
Cikgu Mohammad Faizal bin Haji Hamdan is no stranger when it comes to being in the limelight, with several exhibitions of his
work and interviews for both The Borneo Bulletin and The Brunei Times already to his name. The latest addition to his curriculum
vitae came recently when he was invited to take part in the Biennale 2016 in Singapore.
The exhibition, which began on 26th
October 2016 and ends in February of
next year, is a high-profile interna-
tional event and offered Cikgu Faizal
(CF) the chance to put Brunei well
and truly on the map when it comes to
the visual arts. On his return he kindly
took time out of his busy schedule to
answer Pulse reporter Abdul Quddus
bin Hashim‘s (AQ) questions:
AQ: How and why were you select-
ed?
CF: Previously I was nominated to
represent Brunei for the Asia Pacific
Breweries Foundation Art Prize in
2011 and 2014. The Singapore Art
Museum went through their records
and sent a curator to Brunei to see me
personally and invited me to send a
proposal for the Singapore Biennale
2016. They were also interested in the
nature of the medium that I always
use in my artwork.
AQ: What came first, your artwork or
the idea of the exhibition?
Cikgu Mohammad Faizal bin Haji Hamdan: Brunei’s unofficial art ambassador
CF: The theme of the Singapore Biennale 2016 is 'An Atlas of Mirrors' (Exploring shared histories and current realities within and
beyond the region, Singapore Biennale 2016 will be a constellation of artistic perspectives that provide unexpected ways of seeing
the world and ourselves). I was first introduced to the theme and then I sent a proposal to the Singapore Art Museum. I took this op-
portunity to present my grandfather‘s family background since it has interesting facts relating to the history of migration due to
World War II in South East Asia and how I mirrored myself as a product of this cultural fusion.
AQ: How did you prepare for the exhibition i.e. if the idea of the exhibition came before the artwork, why did you choose the theme
you did?
CF: Once the proposal was accepted, I started to work on the content of the work. I interviewed my mother, her siblings and the el-
derly who knew my grandfather. I also went to the National Archive Centre and the History Centre in Brunei to get information and
suitable images that are used in my visual presentation.
AQ: Were you given a choice of sub-theme to focus on or were you told which one to do?
18
BRUNEI’S ART AMBASSADOR
CF: I based my work on the main theme of the Singapore Biennale 2016 'An Atlas of Mirrors'. Later on, all the presented work
was divided into nine 'conceptual zones' or subthemes. My work belongs to a subtheme entitled ‗A Flow of Identities‘ together
with Ade Darmawan from Indonesia and Nobuaki Takekawa from Japan.
AQ: What is the significance of the title Dollah Jawa?
CF: The title Dollah Jawa was taken from a nickname given to an Indonesian man by the local villagers in Tutong. He was
brought to Brunei by the Japanese Imperial Army troops during the Second World War. After the war ended, he lived in Brunei
and married a local lady and raised his family. Dollah Jawa is my grandfather.
AQ: You were, in effect, a cultural ambassador for Brunei. How did you feel about this and what do you think you gained from the
experience?
CF: I feel very honoured and grateful to be one of the artists presenting their artwork at the Singapore Biennale 2016 and to be the
first Bruneian to be listed in it along with other established international visual artists. Exchanging ideas with international profes-
sional artists and working with professional curators has given me more confidence in how I practise my art.
AQ: How do you think this experience will benefit Brunei as well as the Arts in Brunei?
CF: Having had this experience, I can now share it with local Bruneian artists and this will surely give them the encouragement to
keep on perfecting their art in order to reach international level. I hope that there will be more invitations for contemporary visual
artists from Brunei to showcase their artwork outside the country.
AQ: Will there be any future events during which you can carry on with your ambassadorial role?
CF: I hope so. In Syaa Allah.
AQ: Will there be a special showing of your video projections for the teachers and students of PTES?
CF: In Sya Allah.

PTES VOLLEYBALL CLUB WIN FOR MR RAVI
The long-awaited volleyball match between Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong and
Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, which was originally due to take
place back in August, finally went ahead on Saturday 26th November 2016.
Meant as a fitting farewell to Cikgu Ravi Naidoo, who is sadly leaving these shores to
return to South Africa, the match was played in good spirit but was nevertheless a
very competitive match with neither side giving an inch.
The Maktab Duli team looked as though they had just completed an intensive three-
month training camp in preparation for this match and exuded an air of confidence
when they stepped on to the court. And their confidence seemed justified when they
took the first set by a convincing margin of ten points.
Players shake hands before the match
As ever, though, the form book can be turned on its head when a team is playing with a purpose — and the home team were keen to
ensure that Cikgu Ravi ended his coaching days at PTES on a winning note. Thus, after losing the first set, the PTES team showed
real fighting spirit which enabled them to win the next two sets and the match: 15 - 25, 25 - 22, 26 - 24.
PTES and Maktab Duli volleyball players unite to say goodbye to Cikgu Ravi Naidoo
Following the main match, members of staff (including the new Principal, Haji Jafry bin Haji Suhaili) and students took to the court
to play an exhibition match in what was a fitting farewell to Cikgu Ravi.
All the best Cikgu Ravi. PTES will miss you greatly!

VALE
The Latin scholars among you may know that the word vale means farewell and it is with great sadness that PTES is losing four of its
staff - all from the English Department. Cikgu Ngamoko Nikora, more familiarly known as Mr. Nick, and Cikgu Ravi Selvan Naidoo
are both leaving the Abode of Peace while Cikgu Christine Kendrew and Cikgu Michelle Sarah Bobb have been transferred to other
schools. Before moving on, they kindly agreed to leave us with their farewell messages:
Cikgu Michelle Sarah Bobb
‗Fare thee well, PTES, fare thee well!
After an eventful and memorable three years, it is with a very heavy heart that I must bid adieu to a great college, Pusat Tingkatan
Enam Sengkurong, and an absolutely awesome English Department. As I move on to a new environment and a new set of challenges,
I would like to thank everyone at PTES for being wonderful people to work with, but most of all I want to thank PTES English De-
partment for setting an extremely high professional bar that my next school will have to work VERY hard to surpass. It has been
amazing working (and eating!) with you these last three years, and I will miss you all. Best of luck PTES!‘
Cikgu Christine Kendrew
‗It is with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye, but I shall take with me very fond memories of all of you, my dear students. I
wish you all the best in the future. May your life be full of adventure and happiness!‘
Cikgu Ravi Selvan Naidoo
‗I have taught in Brunei for thirteen years now and feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity, by His Majesty the Sultan
and the Government of Brunei Darussalam, to teach in this beautiful country. The staff I have worked with both at PTEK and PTES
are second to none and the students are the best ever!
Before coming here, I did not know that open houses existed, but I am going to introduce them once I get back to South Africa .
Thank you, one and all, for the wonderful memories I can take away with me. These make me the richest man in the world!‘
Ngamoko Nikora
‗Saying farewell to colleagues, friends and students is never easy. It certainly isn‘t easy now. I arrived at PTES in January 2014 after
having transferred from SM Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam, Serasa. What I have especially enjoyed about PTES is the politeness of
the students, the atmosphere around the school and most of all the wonderful colleagues in the English Department. I wish to thank
them for all the help and advice given to me when I arrived.
I also wish to thank all of my colleagues from other departments and the administration for making my time here as pleasant as possi-
ble. Your friendship, guidance and advice is greatly appreciated. I wish to thank the students that I have come into contact with over
the past three years whether it was in the classroom, the Karate Club or the Wordplay competition in 2014.
Where do I go from PTES? I intend to go to Vietnam and catch up with family and take a well-earned rest before embarking on the
serious business of looking for work. So, I wish all of you at PTES – the Principal, Deputy Principals, lecturers, non-teaching staff
and students – the very best for the future.
May Allah bless you all.
