1 Purpose

Sensor for measuring moisture content. Single sided sensor for measuring with high accuracy.

2 Calibration

For absolute measurement a calibration is necessary.

3 Construction

The sensor is available with a customer specific flange. To install the sensor a connector box and aconnection cable up to 35m is used. At the connector box the supply voltage of 24V is connected and the measured signals are available. The measured signals of the sensor can be sent via Ethernet or 4 - 20mA current loop.

5 Connector Box

The sensor is connected via a connector box. The cable between the sensor and connector box can be up to 35m, as default the sensor is shipped with a 10m long cable.

5.1 Connector Box Pin Description

The output from the sensor is available via Ethernet and current loop 4..20 mA. Both outputs are active and can be used in parallel.

The sensor has 2 built in 4...20mA current loops. On pin 2 the signal for the moisture and on pin 4 the signal of a temperature sensor is sent. The temperature sensor is located directly under the sensing area.

At current loop 1 you get the output signal for the moisture content.4 mA : max. moisture content20 mA : min. moisture contentThis is directly the measured value from the sensor. For the unloadedsensor the current is typ. 19 mA.To get the current linear to the moisture content the sensor have a build in correction capability.

At current loop 2 you get the temperature of the sensor head.4 mA : 0°20 mA : 100°with current is linear to temperature.

6 Current loops

The output range can be set at factory to the following ranges:0 ... 20 mA4 ... 20 mA0 ... 24 mA

The default range is : 4 ... 20mA

It is recommended to use a termination of 500 Ohm for the current loops. A maximum of 1 kOhm is possible.With a termination of 500 Ohm the output voltage for the A/D converter are 2,0 ... 10,0 V.

7 Example for Installation of the Microwave Sensor

The microwave sensor is mounted under a shute, so that the sensor has direct contact to the material to measure.

The measurement range of the sensor is up to 30 mm. To get the correct value for the moisture content, the thickness of the measured material must be more then 30 mm.
