17. Research Accomplishments:

As Principal Investigator (PI), 5 In-house/Institutional projects were completed till March

2013. Presently, Challenge Research Project under Lal Bahadur Shastri Award of ICAR is

being carried out as PI.

As Co-PI, 10 In-house projects, 5 Sponsored projects and 6 Consultancy projects were

completed till March 2013.

Notable contributions include:

developing a concept for integrated assessment of recommended water management

technologies from multi-layer multi stakeholders‟ perspectives; model of adoption dynamics

of agricultural water management technologies; an alternative methodology for the

evaluation of an irrigation system from the farmers‟ perspectives through application of fuzzy

set theory; developing of feasibility and appropriateness indices to work out viability of

recommended water management technologies; developing of water user group dynamics

index and evaluation of different water user groups identifying different dimensions;

assessment of district wise scenario of irrigation, agriculture, living and poverty in eastern

Indian states through composite irrigation index, agricultural development index, poverty

ration index and level of living index; a framework for the analysis of institutional

arrangements and linkage mechanisms for irrigation water management and its application

for analyses in the state of Orissa; methodology devised for monitoring and evaluation of

water user associations (WUAs) and effect of participatory irrigation management (PIM) on

agriculture and system performance. During implementation of on-farm water management

innovations in the commands of major, medium and minor (flow and lift) irrigation projects,

farmers‟ groups were mobilized to adopt the innovations and devising mechanisms of

participatory management for enhanced irrigation efficiency and sustainable agricultural

production.

18. Extension, Communication and Training Accomplishments:

Popularization of technologies:

Recommended water management technologies popularized in multiple locations under

different in-house and external projects.

dissemination of technologies generated by the institute.

Organisation of training:

Coordinated 9 Farmers‟ trainings of seven days duration each on the theme scaling-up of

water productivity in agriculture at 9 different locations.

Coordinated 6 National level trainers‟ trainings sponsored by MoWR and DoA, GOI for

State line department, irrigation department, NGO officials.
