Goulburn Show Success.

This year our classes entered 14 categories at the Goulburn Show. We came first in produce with our collection of 6 spinach leaves . We gained a highly commended in the section for our tea pot decoration. We got second with our plum sauce, butternut pumpkin and collection of herbs. Our jams– although delicious were not successful.

The students gained 6 first places , 5 second places and a third place. Our entries included packet chocolate cake, scones, iced biscuits, ANZAC biscuits, biscuits of another kind, chocolate crackles, patty cakes, muffins, decorated patty cakes (which the senior won second prize). Congratulations to individual place getters,: Zac Gardiner, Billy Mangold, Blake McMahon, Tristan Algie-Woodlands, and Cooper Wyatt. Our first entry into the afternoon tea category presented 6 jams, 4 scones and a tea arrangement. It was a terrific effort by the whole school. Well done everyone.

Special thanks to Liz Standen who arranged all the entries, helped with the cooking and assisted in taking the numerous items to the Goulburn Show grounds.

Kitchen Garden Program

Last week the classes were interrupted by Swim School in the

Primary classes. However the classes that did not attend

swimming got some gardening completed—picking tomatoes and

on Friday the High School students in Food Technology turned them into tomato sauce.

Classes celebrated pancake day on Tuesday with pancakes and maple syrup.

Our Kindergarten students have been making fritters. They are getting more proficient at

grating. This week they will be making carrot fritters and will start making muffins next week.

After mastering the mixing classes will be making a variety of dips and biscuits.

Other Primary classes will be looking at simple meals that they can make at home ( with some

assistance) including simple pies and pastries, pasta sauces and salads.

The Food Technology students also made Spanish stuffed marrow (thanks Carli for the marrows and the five kgs of fresh beans.) We managed to top and tail the beans and have frozen them. Classes in food technology will be working on making dinner at home. We have found some great recipes for a quick dinner item and simple dessert.

Thanks Leonie and Gabby for the supply of eggs. They ensure that everyone can have a turn of

cracking an egg and we can mix, whisk and whip.

PBL at The Crescent

What is PBL ?

Positive Behaviour for Learning ( PBL ) is a whole school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate in which students can learn and develop. This approach involves the school community working together. Students are empowered to participate in decision-making through active involvement in the school’s leadership of PBL.

All staff are responsible for teaching the behaviour expectations, providing consistent positive feedback to students, and delivering consistent corrective feedback and consequences when expectations are not followed. The entire school, including the classrooms, corridors, hallways, kitchen, bathrooms, playgrounds and buses, is considered part of the total learning environment.

The Crescent School has begun implementing PBL organise their systems to establish the social culture, learning and teaching environment and to provide individual behaviour supports to achieve positive academic and social outcomes for all students. The PBL structure has been based on the existing system with some changes enabling common rules to be in place. Class lessons and reinforcement of the lesson expectations ensure that the same positive language is exhibited throughout the school. The school is developing a continuum of support that promotes student learning and wellbeing for all students. Importantly, students have access to more support when they need it.

The continuum emphasises prevention and early intervention and includes:

Tier 1 Universal prevention: school-wide and classroom systems for all students, staff and settings including playgrounds, classrooms, library. Kitchen and hallways

Tier 2 Targeted interventions: small group systems for students at-riskbehaviourally and academically

Tier 3 Intensive interventions: systems for students with high-risk behaviour and/or learning needs.

Senior Class

News We are studying The Vikings this Semester in History. The students have been very keen to learn about Scandinavia where the Vikings originated. They designed their own longboats. The Vikings used these longboats to travel to countries which they explored, settled and also raided. Countries including Greenland, Iceland and North America.

The seniors entered a combined art piece into the Goulburn Show and were awarded first place. Big congratulations to all the students involved and a big thank you to Cassie for making it happen!!!
