To help cities respond to the impacts of three worldwide trends:

URBANIZATIONUrban populations are growing rapidly: of an estimated global population of 9 billion by mid-century, 70% will live in cities. Many are in fragile ecosystems, and the number of people at risk is unprecedented.

GLOBALIZATIONCities are more interconnected than ever before, and a system failure in one city can cause problems across the globe.

CLIMATE CHANGEClimate change places new social, fiscal and political pressures on urban systems.

URBAN RESILIENCEIs the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within a city to survive, adapt, and grow no matter what kinds of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience.

100RC AIMS TO SOLVE TWO PROBLEMS:

1. Cities are complex, siloed ecosystems

2. Existing solutions do not scale or reach cities efficiently

Page 6: 1 Urban Resilience as a Global Imperative Amman, Jordan

6The 100RC Platform consists of tools and services that cities can draw upon to

develop and implement their resilience strategies

The 100RC Platform Catalog is currently composed of 65 partners, with 82 services for a total current value of over $100 million
