THE NEED

According to the 1997-2007 U. S. Census Bureau data, women-owned businesses lost their revenue-based market share by over 10% - representing just under 4% of total revenue share.

Past research point to the link between education – venture creation – and entrepreneurial performance. Currently, the majority of programs available to entrepreneurs are on how to start businesses.

According to the Center for Women’s Research, the most glaring “need” for women-owned businesses stem from lack of knowledge on how to grow a business from Point A to Point B, becoming an employer firm, and moving from being the technical firm to the business leader.

Page 19: 1. Webinar: State of NAWBO ® Kelly Scanlon, Board Chair Helen Han, President/CEO Laura Yamanaka, Board Treasurer November 2, 2010

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

To provide an educational program especially designed for women entrepreneurs to take their business from one stage to the next

To help women owned businesses understand their organizational capacity and help develop and implement a strategic plan to promote accelerated growth and build their business capacity

Provide a unique member benefit that creates a competitive advantage for NAWBO®

Provide uniform curriculum for programs to be executed at the local level – with revenue sharing opportunities

Provide opportunities for substantive engagement for sponsors and stakeholders

Ultimately - to design a train-the-trainers program model to be replicated throughout the country…
