Where Your Heart Is
•Your Heart is in the centre of your body, behind the breastbone and between your
lungs.
•Your Heart and Lungs fill the chest cavity and are protected by the ribs.

What Your Heart Is
•Your Heart is a pump
•Your Heart is a muscular organ
•Your Heart pumps blood all around your body
9
Heart Chambers
•Your Heart has 4 Chambers:
Right Auricle Left Auricle
Right Ventricle
Left Ventricle
The bottom chambers are called V_________.
The top chambers are called A_______.

Atriums and Veins: How Blood gets into your Heart
•Blood enters the Heart through two V____.
Right Auricle Left Auricle
•The Body sends blood with no Oxygen in it through veins to the Heart.
Veins
•The Lungs send blood with Oxygen in it through veins to the Heart.
11
Atriums to Ventricles
•Blood is pumped from the Auricles into
the Heart’s Ventricles.

Ventricles and Arteries: Pumping Blood from your Heart
•The Heart pumps blood through Arteries to the Lungs to collect Oxygen.
Left Ventricle
Right Ventricle
ArteryArtery
•Blood leaves the Heart through two A_______.
•The Heart pumps blood through Arteries to supply Oxygen to the Body.

Arteries
•Arteries are blood vessels thatcarry blood away from your heart.
•Arteries are just like tubes
•Blood is pumped through the arteries at high pressure because it needs to reach every part of your body.
•To stand the high pressure, arteries have thick walls.
•Arteries become narrow as they branch through the body to supply all tissues.
15
Veins and Valves
•Veins are blood vessels that carry blood from body parts to heart
•Veins, like arteries,Are just like same.
•Valves in the Veins make sure blood flows in 0ne direction only.
•The blood pressure is much low in the veins than it is in the arteries so the veins have thin walls.
•Veins have thin walls and contain valves
16
Capillaries•Capillaries receive blood from the smallest arteries
and carry it into the tissues.
•Capillaries are just wide enough to allow one blood cell to pass along.
•Once the blood is “used”, Capillaries then pass blood on from the tissues to the veins.
•Capillaries have thin walls to let gases, food, waste and
other substances pass between blood and tissues.
17
Blood•Blood contains Red & White Cells,
Plasma and Platelets.
Platelets
Red Cells White Cells
Plasma
•Blood carries food, heat and oxygen around the body.
