Ireland has lots of very old customs and traditions. It also has a lot of interesting symbols. Here are some of them. Do you know what they are?

A shillelaghshillelaghshillelaghshillelagh is a walking stick and it is a symbol symbol symbol symbol of St. Patrick’s Day.

Shillelaghs were clubs that used to be cut from the oak trees of the Shillelagh Forest and used as weapons. The Shillelagh Forest doesn’t exist anymore, and now shillelaghs for St. Patrick’s Day are cut from blackthorn trees instead of oak trees. Sa

On Saint Patrick’s Day, shillelaghs are decorated with green ribbon, and children have their own green plastic shillelaghs.

Shamrocks are said to bring good luck.

Shamrock is a plant that grows in Ireland.

Samp

le Slides

Pretty little shamrocks were growing on the ground

Along came a leprechaun, he didn’t make a sound

He picked a little shamrock and jumped up in a tree

Then he put it in his pocket, and he slapped his little knees

And he clapped his tiny hands, and he stamped his little feet

And he said, “This will bring a little luck to me.”

An Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you,May the wind be always at your back,

May the sunshine be warm upon your face,And the rains fall soft upon your fields.

And, until we meet again ...May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
