  • Not everyone is safer at home…•1 in 4 women experience domestic/interpersonal violence (DV)(CDC)

    •DV escalates during times of crisis (LA Times)

    •Safer at home orders have DV survivors under closer control

  • Choosing between an unsafe home vs. no home

    •63% of homeless women experienced DV (NNEDV)

    •Only 24% of those fleeing DV sheltered in LA County (LAHSA 2020 Homeless count)

    •Homeless fleeing DV increased by 40% (LAHSA 2020 Homeless count)

    •LA County lacks over 500,000 affordable housing units

  • Breaking the cycle of violence•Increasing protective factors & decreasing risk factors can prevent violence to self & others

    •Living through pandemic is a risk factor, 25% of young adults had suicide ideation (CDC)

    •Secure attachment to a parent or guardian is key protective factor (CDC)

  • Globally•The UN is estimating that COVID-19 is likely to reduce progress towards ending gender-based violence over the next decade by 30%

    •For every 3 months the lockdown continues, an additional 15 million additional cases of gender-based violence are expected (United Nations)
