10 basic rules

you should

follow to

improve your

performance

Page 2: 10 basic rules you should follow to improve your performance

1.Follow a balanced

diet and respect

mealtimes

Having a healthy diet and

respecting mealtimes is key to

keeping our cognitive abilities

active and achieving our full

potential.

2.Do regular physical

exerciseYou should find time to exercise,

even with a busy exam schedule.

When we exercise, our body

releases endorphins, which allow

us to have more energy and

vitality.

3.Sleep between 7-8

hours a day

It is important not to reduce your

sleep hours during exam times.

Sleeping helps us to absorb and

assimilate all the knowledge we

have acquired during the day

and facilitates long-term learning.

4.Do not change your

sleep-wake pattern

When we study until late at night,

we are forcing our body to stay

active and we alter our usual

sleep pattern.

In this way, we reduce our

performance capacity and

concentration levels.

5.Study always in the

same place

It is advisable to make our body

used to studying in the same

place as, in this way, we will be

able to increase our capacity for

concentration.

6.Choose a suitable

space

Our usual study space should

have plenty of light (natural light),

have a comfortable temperature

and be as quiet as possible.

It should also have plenty of

room and a large desk so that we

can get organised and have

everything we need at hand.

7.Maintain an adequate

body posture

A good body posture protects us

from possible muscle pains, so

the chair we use should be

adjusted to our height and have

a firm backrest. Avoid, therefore,

to study on your bed or on the

sofa.

Also, when reading you should

hold your book perpendicular to

your eyes and not force

inadequate postures.

8.Take short breaks

Do not drink too many stimulant

drinks such as coffee, as they

will only keep you going for a

short time but you will start

feeling tired again.

If you feel that your concentration

level is wavering and you start to

feel tired, take a short 5-10

minute break.

9.Remove distractions

It is not advisable to listen to

music while studying, and even

less if it is your preferred music

and it may distract you.

Try to leave your mobile outside

your study space. It is one of the

greatest distractions.

10.Get organised before

you start studying

Before you start studying, it is

essential that you define the

tasks that need to be done first

and the time you will devote to

each of them.

Always keep key dates in mind

and try to set short-and mid-term

objectives based on those key

dates.
