TITANIC – A SynopsisAn undersea expedition searching for a valuable

diamond aboard the wreckage of the Titanic instead finds a drawing of seventeen-year-old Rose DeWitt Bukater, on the way to her wedding to a wealthy tycoon. While Rose falls in love with Jack Dawson, a free-spirited artist and third-class passenger who ignites the unquenchable fires of passion inside her, the hubris of the ship's crew tempts them to test the cross-Atlantic speed record--smack into an iceberg. A rightfully celebrated, no-holds-barred, great blockbuster, with enough heart and soul to balance its extravagant special effects and record-breaking budget.

GANDHI – A Synopsis Sir Richard Attenborough's 1982 multiple-

Oscar winner (including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Ben Kingsley) is an engrossing, reverential look at the life of Mohandas K. Gandhi, who introduced the doctrine of nonviolent resistance to the colonized people of India and who ultimately gained the nation its independence. Kingsley is magnificent as Gandhi as he changes over the course of the three-hour film from an insignificant lawyer to an international leader and symbol. Strong on history (the historic division between India and Pakistan, still a huge problem today, can be seen in its formative stages here) as well as character and ideas, this is a fine film. --Tom Keogh

BEN – HUR : A Synopsis One of the cinema's greatest epics because it is

based on a compelling human story of revenge, bitterness, redemption and forgiveness. Heston is magnificent as the Prince of Judea, Ben Hur, who confronts the conquering Romans. His actions send him and his family into slavery - and an inspirational encounter with Jesus. The story moves from Judea to imperial Rome and back to Judea where Heston finally meets his rival Messala in a justly famous chariot race and rescues his suffering family - after once again encountering Jesus, this time on his way to Golgotha. This was a production of unheard of scale, exhibiting the work of literally tens of thousands of people.

The Godfather – A Synopsis Based on the best-selling novel by Mario Puzo THE

GODFATHER is an epic tale of Mafia life in America during the 1940s and '50s. Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) is the family patriarch balancing a love of his family with an ambitious criminal instinct.

At the wedding of the don’s daughter, Connie (Talia Shire), youngest son Michael (Al Pacino), a decorated war veteran, is reunited with his family. After an assassination attempt leaves the Godfather too ill to run the family business, sons Michael and Sonny (James Caan), with the help of consigliere Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall), lead the Corleones into a vendetta-filled war with the other mob families. Violent revenge ensues as the family tries to change from its old criminal ways into legitimacy. Diane Keaton, in a stark departure from her usual comedic roles, plays Kay, the long-suffering wife of Michael Corleone. Brilliant casting, music, and storytelling help make THE GODFATHER a classic.
